Depends, really. I usually have a harder time with Diablo because of his Red Lightning (or whatever it's called) and Fire Nova that he spams in quick succession. He is hard, though. It's probably just that the developers didn't think he was the hardest when they released the game, or didn't think of it as odd, or just didn't think of it, period, and just went with it. Who knows
I don't really find Duriel that hard anymore. I think people have issues with Duriel is because they reach him way too early (level 18) while I get to him later (level 24). By the time anyone gets to Baal, they have tons of skills and items, although Baal is not an easy boss in my opinion.
Yeah, that's true. It also depends a good deal on your character build. I basically always go with a glass cannon, so it can be difficult, especially if my mercenary dies a lot.

Ever since I switched to Paladins, it has been hard to leave them.
Duriel has the ability to stun you and his cold damage is a pain in the ass. Close quarters combat is a bitch. All the other end, act bosses fight in a more open arena; thus making it easier to get a break in the action to recharge. Duriel is kind of a do or die for newer players for the reasons stated above.
Fighting Duriel is annoying. It's just running in constant circles, talking little pot shots at him and going through shitloads of pots and TPs.
Yeah, that's basically it.
Finding some way to hinder him would be great. Try fighting him when you have access to better skills (run the countess or Andariel or something to do that). Once I got bone wall, fighting him with my Bone Necro became rather fun.
Bone wall and then cursing him with Iron Maiden is not a terrible strategy either. It could take a really long time to kill him that way, but if you simply don't have the attack rating to hit him enough, that's one way for a Necro to do it.
lol theres only two characters that i ever made in singleplayer that iw as able to kill duriel in one try with... my werebear druid that had a ton of life at lvl 18... and my zealer i <3 paladins lulz.... mostly just cuz blizzard has made pallys way better than they should be haha but its good cuz thats my primary char
in normal with no gear, yea he can be a little tough but i wouldn't say the hardest boss.. i think meph and diablo are both harder... for them you have to have resist gear for duriel you just need potions and a merc. (this in normal)
in nm or hell duriel is really only dangerous if he charges you.. so if you dont have the life or damage reduce to take that kind of hit, you just have to make sure that when you first go down it's your merc or other minion that takes the charge.
once he's in close quarters he's not nearly as dangerous
crushing blow or lower resist/conviction plus most any elemental skill damage makes short work of him (though he is resistant to cold so it takes more with cold skills)

serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
I get schooled every time I fight duriel in single player...:(
Shouldnt act 5 have the hardest boss?
Makes no sense to me.

At later levels, they're all easier.
