Hello everyone, I am a gamer who plays almost anything and in a discussion with some co-workers (I work at a game shop) we were struck with the idea of putting the Diablo games on the DS and the DSI.
The reasoning behind this suggestion is based off the following facts:
-The control mechanism for the DS can be very similar to the contol system used on a computer. The touch screen can be used as a mouse with the potions bar at the bottom, and touching the bottom screen with one of the triggers down would use the secondary attack. The other trigger can then be used to pause the game and bring the top screen to the bottom. The top screen would contain the secondary and primary attack buttons and the mana and health orbs. as well as having space for the mini map.
-The resolution matches better to the DS than it does most modern computers, making it easy to play
-The WIFI connections between consoles allows for really easy local play with other people, and it could also be used to create some sort of downloadable multiplayer where the person without the game plays as the generic lackey that is picked up in every act.
-Being able to connect to the internet would also allow for some sort of online play and with the nintendo store the ability to sell downloadable content. Like the expansion packs or individual starting characters (400 points for the assassin and druid). This also allows easy distribution of patches and extra items.
What I am asking is what do people think? And can you please consider this blizzard
the idea has been raised before but probably won't ever happen.
blizzard was considering the ds (along with the ps) in like 2005 for d2 (and starcraft) but then it never happened.
i agree it would be a cool idea though..
(i was able to play diablo on the ps with a friend that would have never played it with me on the computer ... new platforms means exposing people to a game that they might not otherwise have ever found)
on a side note some people say dungeon explorer is a ds game similar to diablo
edit: here's a link to another post made on these forums about the same idea where they talk about how the subject matter might be inappropriate for the ds and its younger playerbase.. and using the stylus to ..stab diablo http://diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11525
(i wouldn't post there for thread necromancy reasons, but good to read anyway)

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
I was touched on in another thread a few months back... a lot of people didn't like the idea, but I did.
Everyone else mainly wanted to see it on the PSP.
I think porting Diablo and Diablo II to the DS will get a lot more people using the WiFi feature.
Not many Americans use this feature on their DS systems. And it would definitely boost DS sales.
The only way it would be incredibly profitable would be to add extra features to the games as incentives to persuade people to buy them.
You would also have the die-hard DIABLO ONLY ON PC people flipping out over the issue.
