Yeah but making an expansion for a 7 year old game wouldn't make them any money. And Blizzard is, first and formost, a corporation meant to make money.
I think a new expansion would be a bit redundant yes. But hell, id rather have that than diablo 3 if theyre never gna make d3! As for the graphics issue, we still play LOD to this same day and the new said expansion will use the same graphics, so whats the diff? I can also see why it would be redundant on the other hand, its too little too late ..... been way too long since D2 LOD
Not if they do something like try to use an over-the-shoulder camera angle or make a generic pay-to-play diku clone or poop out a turd like Hellgate: London.
The ideal Diablo III would provide the ideal Diablo experience: more of the same, higher resolution art, and a system in place to monetize the production of ongoing content, whether that's a Real Money Transfer or whatever.
Myself, I think the Sin War would be the ideal setting for it, but meh.

Like I said:
Diablo III will make more.
LOOK at SC and now look at SC2.
LOOK at D, and now look at D2. and now THINK of D3.
You pretty much wasted a post stating some, of the obvious.
Just to bring it and put it on the table without confusion: It's going to play and look like Diablo 2, but the graphics will rock by default. That is all you need to think about for now anyway - and what really gets me is some people actually think Diablo III is not in production.... WOOSH.
Stating the obvious is how easy it would be for them to macro out higher resolution art for Diablo II, but would require an update to the engine to handle it:

They aren't going to change the engine for a 7 year old game. I've seen that picture before, also. Some people wouldn't want to update their software to play the expansion they'd rather get something new. And expansion wouldn't make near as much money and it deffinitely wouldn't please the fanbase.

reavamping an old game...nothing like beating a dead horse
this "patch" was a rumor started on some site to see how far the "rumor" would go... the rumor has spread but in reality there is no patch in the works
Leatus, this patch isn't a rumor from another site. I was who posted this thread, and I haven't posted it anywhere else. I haven't even posted news of it on my own fansite ...
For it to be a rumor, the news would have come from a third-party ... such as ... oh a friend, of a friend of someone working at Blizzard said there will be a Diablo II patch.
Therefore, "this" thread can't be a rumor, because it was a one-on-one convo. I know the source. It's one of my various inside contacts. GG.
I have contacts on Public Relations, Tech Support, Community Managers, Human Resources, and at least four ex-employees, two of them Bill Roper and Mike Huang who I interviewed on 2003.

Please remember that Medievaldragon is a respected member and has provided a lot of true predictions in the past.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
