What part of my system specs is causing me to get FPS between 5 and 15 in areas with a lot of monsters? I've gone in the video options and set everything to the lowest standards. It's driving me crazy. Could it be my Wireless NIC? Other suggestions?
I think it's just the beta doing this. I get it sometimes too, but in certain areas only and it doesn't matter how many monsters I'm around.
Example, I'll be in the Weeping Hollow, and there will be a crap ton of monsters around, and I won't be lagging or getting low FPS at all. Then I'll be running down an empty hallway in the Cathedral, and FPS drops a lot for some reason.
Blizzard has commented on this and I'm pretty sure they said it will be fixed for release.
The 5500 series video cards aren't very fast. Try lowering your resolution... to 800x600, if necessary. If it's a lot smoother, then you found the problem
Thanks Jael and Kardax. Been reading some other threads and it seems like a problem a lot of people are having. I'll try reducing my res to 800x600, hopefully it's something that will be fixed on release though.

Don't count on it. May 15 is approaching fast, so Blizzard's #1 priority is making launch day as smooth as possible. There's not enough time left to thoroughly test updates to the rendering engine, so it's a risk I don't think they'll take.
If dropping to 800x600 makes it run smooth, plan on upgrading your video card by May 15th... or playing at 800x600...

Okay, so does my video card seem to be the only thing holding me back?
Yeah. Whenever i'm around glowy effects (fire, shadows emitting from a mob, etc.) my game starts moving in slow motion. It should get a little bit better once the final game comes out, but it would totally help to get a new computer (ohhh if only I had the $$$)
Welp, Skeleton King is impossible with the ~5fps I get during the encounter. Literally can't react anywhere near in time to do my thing. Fucking macbook...I seriously need to go build a PC again.
The reason only the people with very high performance specifications is because the beta requires SO much more than the retail version of the game. You cant judge it from the beta look of it. The retail will lag less, but then agian if youre system is below the recommended, theres not much to do... :-)
I'm guessing you haven't actually played the retail version, since it's only May 2nd right now. Don't assume that things will magically be better. A slow GPU will still be a slow GPU.

Blizzard did say the retail would run much smoother than the beta. Even people with good systems, far above recommended specs, have issues from time to time.

"It let's me in the game all right, but it's in slow motion and not at all fun to have such low frame rates even with all of the settings turned down.
Bear in mind that the beta has its own FPS issues simply because it's a beta; Diablo III won't be optimized until release. My custom-built gaming system can't play the beta smoothly either, but it will be fine on release. Blizzard betas are genuine betas, unlike the glorified demos that some companies refer to as a "beta".
Still, it is no consolation for those with newer laptops with the intel 4 series chipset, which isn't supported. Why?
Speaking honestly, the Intel 4 series is roughly equivalent in power to the Geforce 5200FX which came out in 2003. My sympathies for having one. It's poor performance spurred Intel to get serious about designing a decent onboard video option, and that led us to the Intel HD series. The HD series still isn't as good as a newer video card of course, but at least you can usually count on most games to be playable."
I'm curious as to what video cards some of you are running, since Diablo III supports video cards made as far back as 2004, and should run fairly well (at release, not beta) on cards made back in 2006. 6+ years is an extremely large window of support for a new, big budget title.
Keep in mind that many pre-built systems don't have real video cards in them. It's entirely possible to have bought a new computer just a couple years ago that can't run Diablo III because it doesn't have a real video card in it. The good news is that you can add a video card to systems like that rather inexpensively, and then you'll be good to go. Assuming of course that it's a desktop.
Video cards are routinely the most expensive components of computers these days, so manufacturers will often drop the video card and leave only the onboard video (cruddy for games) in order to make a system appear to be a better value. Thankfully, the rest of the components in those systems are usually quite nice, you just need to add a real video card.
Oh, also...if your video card truly is a newer card and you're still getting the error, it's probably just a bug. Try closing out the message and continuing. Otherwise, these should all be cleared up by launch.
AMD GPUs suck! But even with a AMD GPU the game should run completly smooth at 60fps. Proably you are just to dumb to confgure your Video-Settings/Windows Config.

Like I said, if it runs well at 800x600, you'll know with absolute certainty that the GPU is the problem. A modern $150-$200 card will fix it

A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
Ohh the irony.
What are your specs?
