Posting this extremely interesting interview with Travis Day ( D3 Systems designer) by Diablo IncGamers for visibility. There's better information here then the d3 panels themselves at times. It's definitely worth a look. Big thank you to Diablo Incgamers:
Whoever did this interview was extremely disrespectful. Doubt this clown will ever be granted another interview. I was actually shocked at how snarky and disrespectful he was during almost every question. Sounded more like one of the brooding, angst ridden Bnet forum posters than anything close to a journalist. Just ....wow at the amateur bullshit this guy pulled.
I have come across a few self proclaimed "hardcore gamer" personalities in real life and I shit you not they always come off snarky, asshole-ish, completely oblivious to social cues or etiquette, and trying to come off super intellectual but have severe emotional and social retardation. I swear they all had Aspergers.
I'm surprised that Travis Day went as far as he did with this guy.

I'm honestly not seeing it. The crack he made about Barbarians may have been a tad rude, but it's not over the line. Moving RRoG to act 5 was a pretty ridiculous suggestion though. That one I will concede.

"I’m sure I’ll be asking you about this next year"
That was the real topper. I'm surprised Travis didn't cut it off right there. I would've died laughing if Travis had raised his eyebrow and said "No. No, I don't think you'll be asking me anything next year".
The rest was just "tone" and intent. Almost every question was a complaint. He was granted an interview, and the professional thing to do would be to pose the questions respectfully, frame them so they don't sound like a machine gun firing bitch bullets.
A perfect example was the "question" about stash space, which was actually just a rambling rant of complaints. I LOVED Travis' response; "Well that’s two questions. Do you want to know about stash space or about microtransactions. Since those aren’t the same thing."
The only thing missing was an "asshole" and the end.
These are people who pour their lives into their work, these games are their livelihood, their profession. Agree or disagree with the result, anyone that has a job knows exactly what it's like when you try your hardest and someone just complains about your work.
Most of these weren't even questions. They were just complaints with an implied question mark at the end.
In Flux's defense these are the same questions that have been asked and not just by him. Seeing him poke Travis for an actual response is a good thing. I get a bit tired of reading the corporate line from fanboys. Good for Flux trying to make edgy comments to try and get some reaction.
Don't you all get tired of NO ONE ever saying anything that has real value? "we feel this is in a good place(insert 6pc sets, barbs, monks, etc)" - how many times have you seen and actually AGREED with that statement? Are we not the customer? Do we not have input beyond "designing a legendary item workshop"? Did everyone forget PVP? Has everyone forgotten the "millions" of builds?
That said, I am grateful for even the smallest scraps of changes that lead to something better because this isn't going to change anytime soon.

That was one of the most interesting answers of the interview. Looks like Microtransactions are NOT off the table ;-)

Actually, no, you don't have input beyond that. Getting to even do the legendary workshop is actually a plus, because you're a paying customer for THEIR product. This entitlement attitude is just exponentially growing and it blows my mind. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Don't, however, try to claim that you've got some God-given right to decisions made for the product.
And @ Ruksak, I completely agree. I'm honestly embarrassed to be a part of the same gamer base as that guy. I can't believe they couldn't get someone more professional in there.

I took that as if they would want us to have more stash space, they would just give it to us for free. So the possibility of us being able to buy extra stash space via microtransaction would be off the table.

Again, they have a product because we buy it. Since when has it been okay for businesses to do whatever they deem as right and that consumers have no say/input into what they want? You think that is entitlement, but I think that is consumerism. Entitlement is not the same and perhaps before you label something as such maybe you might want to educate yourself on this first. Why do you think billions of dollar are spent each year by companies to get input and do consumer testing? Sorry, but entitlement is the idea of getting something you want without having to earn it. Like most who care to spend enough time posting in a forum we have spent thousands of hours on their games and pay for them I believe this should at the very least give us a voice but not necessarily the decision in the final product.
Incgamers is a terrible site and the people who run it (mainly Elly and Flux) are incompetent and too greedy. They were active gaming nerds 15 years ago, but by now they just want profit. I was moderator there for a few years before they just closed the entire WoW forum cause it didnt have enugh add klicks.
I dont think you can sink much lower than the guys over at incgamers.
edit : after reading the interview i think even less of them, if that was even possible. Worst questions and so obviously not from a player.
sorry i really dont find ancient legendaries being counterproductive for competitiveness a good argument.
The point is what you see as competetive. of course when you want to go for season rank 1 then you have to grind your gear up as fast as possbile. you basically need to be a nolifer
but for non season its different
the ladder will probably be never reset. Even if, you'll have far more time to get your items together than in non season.
My goal for example is not reaching rank 1, its not feasable with my amount of time at the moment., but i want to stay withhin the top 200.
as someone having a girlfriend and an 8 hour job this seems to me being quite an accomplishement.
The competetivenss comes from all other players times which i have to beat. No matter what time it takes. The longer it takes, the longer ill will play diablo 3( as in years) . and i wellcome new items wich will possibly kick me out of the top 200 in the beginning because i lack the time to get those early.
Ill wellcome those items because they keep me playing, wanting to be in the top 200 again.
non-season ladders will be reset, although when? we don't know. They called the time-span of non-season ladders as an Era.
@haemoneptra
how does the existence of ancient legendaries render your current gear useless? When the patch goes out, will you be unable to do the same GRift level that you were capable of before? ridiculous point of view.
also, do you intend to say DIABLO (3), a hack n slash game, should be replayable but not repetitive?

Power inflation has to happen so we may progress through higher level GRs. Depending on a very rare weapon drop to be Ancient to be competitive is a serious problem. Here's a recent tweet on the subject: https://twitter.com/candlesan/status/532743343965356032
If they buff more weapons to be competitive with Furnace, I'm completely okay with Ancient gear. If they don't, I'm not, because it's a little TOO rng.

I think it's clear the interviewer didn't intend to be disrespectful, but when you consider who he's talking to and what he's asking it really is in some cases. It's mostly in how he asks the questions. Instead of asking something along the lines of "Have you considered doing X" he goes about saying you should try this. Or asking "Have you planned to do X to fix Y" instead of "How do you plan to fix Y". His final question is especially rude and sounds like something an average player would ask without any information on the subject. He either over explains his questions with useless information, or asks overly specific questions that don't allow much conversation - or even worse, get the same answers we've heard before.
Overall, it's just very unprofessionally done. Now, I know not everyone needs to have a professional manner during an interview, but I'm sorry if you're interviewing a Blizzard employee about a game that your website is dedicated to it should have been a lot better than that. This was more of the equivalent of them responding to random posts on their forums.

Not every game has to have consumer input, and that input isn't always helpful. In fact most of the time it isn't helpful at all. In this case however, it is entitlement because you're no longer providing Blizzard money to develop Diablo 3. It's not something earned, it's given by the developers. Just because you paid for D3 doesn't mean you're entitled to have developers listen to your opinion. Just because you've played their games for thousands of hours doesn't mean you've earned it either. It's up to them to decide whether you have or not. I mean really, you make it sound like they owe you something for you playing their games so much, that just seems backwards to me.

Convesrely, the best source of consumer opnion, wants, feedback, bug reports, chances for quality improvement ARE from the public. YOu simply have to decide how to obtain it and how to sort it, and perhaps most importantly, how to qualify it. That's not buyer entitlement, it's smart business.
That's true, it's not buyer entitlement to want to give feedback to developers. However, it is entitlement when you think you're owed the developer's ear just because you bought or played their game. It's up to them to decide whether or not to listen to you.
The fact that you paid for something does make you the customer, but you're limited at best to returning the product and trying to get your money back. This isn't a service where the "business" is apt to try and make the customer happy like a waiter, car salesman, or even your local congressman ( good luck with that one).
If the product worked as intended at purchase, thank you, have a nice day. Now, we have all heard seen instances where this wasn't true and mostly things get corrected, but, point of sale, have a nice day otherwise.
It's up to the company to solicit feedback, or provide an avenue for feedback submittal, or even so far as to hire someone to monitor social media now and keep an eye on feedback. But it's their decision to listen, their decision to be smart or not as to what the customer wants, and there are times when what the customer wants, due to unseen contraints isn't possible, or even a good idea. Is it their obligation to explain this? Debatable at best.
Even so ,I've seen attempts at explanations and blatant disregard for the attempt to the effect of why ever would they try to do so again?
I'm rambling. Easiest statement is simply there are minimally two sides to almost anything and if you can only see one, it isn't a very promising conversation.
