I was thinking about playing seasonal until I saw the legendaries that are slated to be ladder only and then I changed my mind. They just don't entice me at all. Especially since my main is a witch doctor and they haven't revealed anything for that class yet. And even if they do, I just feel the number of items being introduced is a bit underwhelming.
I use to play D2 and I remember always looking forward to the beginning of a new ladder season. I just don't have that same enthusiasm right now. Am I the only one? Does anyone else share these thoughts?
I have always liked a clean slate in all games, being competitive or not. So, the chance to start fresh is a joy for me. Finding upgrades as you play is the most rewarding aspect of the game, and the sense of progress is huge when you start fresh.
What I wonder is when do the items obtained in season get to be used by our non-season toons? Say I get the season-only Crusader shield, do I have to wait til the season ends to use it on my normal Crusader? If the items obtained during Season can't be used until Season ends, then I most likely will not bother with Seasons. The time gap to use Season-only items on non-season toons is just too short imo.
That said, I'm also an achievement whore and it'd be very hard for me not to start a toon or two on it.
If your the kind of player that really enjoys looking for raid and 5 man dungeons I'd say none ladder is the place you'll prefer. However, if your the kind of player that likes raiding and hc raiding, ladder and pref hc is the way to go.
But I only play LFR and heroic 5 mans on WoW, and I love ladder....?
This will go live about 1-2 weeks before September.. Blizz always has such bad timming.. sigh.
Anyways, starting a new character is somewhat fun, more so if you switch classes and play something else.
It can also be a little frustrating.. Playing a barb atm. can only clear up to Grift level 23 on time. Level 25 is just beyond me atm, and it sucks because I know if I switch to my main on live I can actually fall asleep for 10 minutes and clear level 25 Grifts in less than 5minutes. Gems will play a very large role as gearing up will take a while so damage/mitigation/speed bonuses will come from gems.
Right now gearing up is a joke due to the current level 1 key bug. Once this goes live, I expect things to go a lot slower.
Any guild that needs drops to progress isn't a top guild. Any guild that can't clear the content because they don't play enough isn't a top guild. All of your points about gradations of skill and RNG are correct for mid-range guilds, but they simply don't apply to top guilds. The bar in wow is set too low for RNG to matter to top guilds. Top guilds clear the new content within 2-4 weeks using 90% gear from the previous tier. Then they raid once a week for 3 months waiting for the next path. Rinse and repeat for a couple years at most, get bored, quit.
I don't see the point of ladders if you're not in the small % that has the playtime to actually envision a place in the leaderboards.
My goal in DIII is to advance my characters by getting them better items.
Starting up fresh is exactly the reverse of that. New items will be sent to nonladder at the end of the season so getting them is not the issue.
What's the point of farming items you won't use anyway since after season 1 you'll play season 2 and will likely not play your nonladder characters ?
Starting up from scratch results in a huge XP and gold loss. You'll get the starter/T1 difficulties XP and gold until your chracter progresses. I'm currently making 1 million/cache run in T4.
You'll be making the same characters with the same specs as in non ladder, to be efficient. What's the point ?
Some of your points can be used as a reason NOT to play hardcore... it's a choice.
You don't have to aim for #1 spot during seasons, you can compete with friends, clans, family.......

Decision is 100% "do I want a clean slate, or do I want to keep building up my existing characters?"
