i'm thinking how Diablo3 would be fascinating if it has custom arcade like starcraft 2.
It might be a good idea for me to adding some "use map setting" into diablo3 system.
you play with ur own character and adventure with others. Map can be manipulated by anyone (The current diablo 3 system is focused nothing but farming. We want to have more fun with interesting theme, tastes)
I want to share this idea to you guys. how does that sound?
So... like the world/campaign editors from starcraft and warcraft? To create custom maps?
Interesting idea, but it couldn't be nearly as creatively limitless as it is for those games. You obviously couldn't decide things like elite density, drop rates, etc. At best you'd just be able to make a map layout, and even that could be a stretch as people would just make super simple ones to maximize their "efficiency", and even then it surely wouldn't be allowed "rift level" drop chances, so nobody would actually play them, efficient or not.
Maybe if it was for an entirely separate set of characters or something for that mode it could be opened up, but people would just make maps that give them full legendary sets in 10 minutes of farming and that mode would quickly become stale, with no goals to strive for. I don't see it fitting diablo really, though if Blizzard had infinite time and resources it could be a fun thing to play with.
It would either have to be really constrictive, as Spiralphoenix5 pointed out, or very well thought out. I don't have much faith in the latter coming from Blizzard. Time constraints, current focus etc. For the sake of conversation; IF it could be done? Yes! I would appreciate the addition. To become empowered by a set of tools to create my own content is a nice touch. It would have to be distinct enough to stand on its own and not immediately be compared to a rift. Otherwise there would be no point.
It's a nice idea, but never going to happen. It requires for the game to allow mods, and Blizzard already said multiple times that they do not plan on opening up Diablo 3 to modding.
I think one of the reasons is the following: The main reason why Diablo games were so successful is that their game play incentivizes long-term character development; many people played the same character for years in Diablo 1, 2, and 3. That's because you always have something to aim for. However, long-term progression requires a lot of effort in terms of balance. Mods, on the other hand, are usually different: they offer great short-term gameplay experience and allow for quick, short games to be played (see all the SC2/WC3 mods; especially the most successful one of all times, DotA). If you were to allow mods, people could just "simulate" endgame gear and -experience, might get bored after some time, and lose interest in playing ("why should I keep farming for my class sets; I got them in the "Pew Pew L00t Mod 3.1" and I have no reason to play regular RoS").
That's why I think there will never be something like custom play (or mods in general), or at least not anytime soon.

A lot of the best mods for DII made the game much more difficult and added a lot more content. Quite a few of the mods were more balanced than Vanilla DII. Eastern Sun and Median XL just to name a couple of them. Granted there are quite a few mods that up the quality of gear and make the monsters easier or at the same settings.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
D2Mods were nothing like the custom arcade. You made toons on your own computer or unofficial servers, quite often completely new toons for playing just in the mod. Taking existing realm characters for a spin in custom games is a different beast entirely, and the big problem is how you control progression. Neverwinter tried with custom dungeons and its still a problem there.
Its also worth mentioning that D2 mod tools were entirely community-developed. Anything like an arcade would imply a lot more support than any iteration of DIablo has ever given. And unlike some very popular UMS in SC and WC3, D2 mods have never had quite the same popularity. (Then again, from what I understand, neither has SC2.)
I think one of the reasons is the following: The main reason why Diablo games were so successful is that their game play incentivizes long-term character development; many people played the same character for years in Diablo 1, 2, and 3. Well that is their excuse. Which is really just that when you think about how much longlivety the mods gave D2 and also the arguments that the last two posters postet.
The real reason is that Blizzard wants control. That's why you dont get open random maps any more ( streamline the game experience for people who enjoy running down the same corridor every time ), that's why we dont get the liberty to make our own games any more, that's why we can only PvP in the smallest arena ever, that's why we only can play online etc etc etc. The nerds that made D2 are gone, D3 is just a product that must make more money.
on one hand you have a massive pool of people who can just pump out creative content for your game....
on the other hand if you really REALLY care about the sanctity of your product....you might not dare allow them to do so....
Modding D3 is like modding pepsi or walmart....its such a huge polished machine.......it just hardly computes in a way....
but then you see what happened to games...made by blizzard the same company........that allowed a very high level of modding....and basically opened the floodgates to games that now stand shoulder to shoulder with blizzard games.......so it seems to be more of a case of "we dont want to incubate our future competitors.....which is sad for the consumer who only stands to gain.....
and yes of course median XL is no laughing matter....skyrim mods may be pretty stupid looking from time to time....but there are many to choose from...the XBOX version gets none....
team fortress would not exist counter strike would not exist League legends would not exist DOTA would not exist.....there is a laundry list of exciting landmarks in gaming history all given life through modding....the story of Diablo 3 would be in a different universe if they allowed modders to have their way...
my prediction is that you would have an obscene amount of new content....a good portion of it would be complete shit....and youd also have so absolute gems in there.......
but does that increase the bots? increase the scams? maybe...but I'm not commenting on that part of the question.....im just thinking about the content...
you'd probably have alot of pissed off players interested....and alot of safe players scammed....
things would be very different. but I'd bet the farm that it will never ever be allowed.....fingers crossed I'm totally wrong ....

I don't see how it would require mods created external to Blizzard, it would be them implementing it and it could be as limited or unlimited as they wanted it to be. I do agree that making it unlimited in the sense of taking the game as it is now and molding it however you (the player) want it to be would be harmful for the game, but I'm sure someone more creative than me could come up with something that would allow player input in creating their own world, while also keeping the incentive there to play the game as normal.
If we get a map creator, there would probably be small, round arenas with unlimited elite spawns for farming.
Well, in an ideal world, they would give the users modding tools and then when you play a mod your progress and stuff does not carry over to the vanilla game. Their reasoning behind not supporting anything mod related is that it gives people too much of an insight into the backbone of D3 making the live b.net easier to hack... which is a bullshit excuse if you ask me but oh well.

I really wish they would add this. It would have added so much life that the game needed before RoS.
torchlight 2 does it, and does it well. With the experience Blizzard has with this kind of stuff, they really could have done something great.
