This is a net positive. RIF was only necessary because of how broken the system was. One person opening a rift for 5 key fragments. Now you can do a bounty run, gather 6 keys and that will be good for 6 rifts. I think this is a huge huge huge change for the better, not the worse. And sitting in a channel hoping you get picked for RIF is not a fun way to play the game, even if it was efficient.
Agreed, it's a needed change with leaderboards coming out.
To all the people saying "This doesn't really affect RiF, you just have to pay one key everytime rather than 5 every third time":
That is true for leechers. It is, however, untrue for runners. Runners gain abso-fucking-lutely nothing from dragging your ass to the boss and killing it with you apart from a minor magicfiend boost (which a follower with legacy magicfind gear totally trumphs, by the way). They still have to use their own key to open the next rift either way - which means the incentive for runners to do this are equal to zero. Especially concidering a set of bounties will let you do 6 rifts, instead of 1.2 rifts. Why on earth spend two minutes finding people and herding them to the boss and killing it, rather than just slaughter and repeat on your own?
I'm not sure that this will impact RiF at all... in the end, you can still enter torment rifts using keys from normal, and you can still bounce between 95% complete rifts, killing endbosses as you go, it just costs you one key per boss kill now... which is basically nothing. RiF will also be the most efficient way to farm GR keys, too... exacerbated by the fact that you can enter a torment GR with a key from a normal-mode rift.
Of course it will impact RiF.
The current incentive for players who actually clear the rift to invite people in is they get a free rift opened after. Now there's zero upside for the people who would otherwise invite you to the RG kill.
In other words, sitting in chat waiting for an open RG kill spot will be (in my opinion, my prediction) almost completely gone.

Clearly, RiF as a way to minimize key usage will no longer exist... but because the cost has also been dropped, RiF as a way to maximize shard acquisition may well still thrive. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

How. The incentive for runners is null. You clear rifts faster by not waiting for people to join you, loot, and leave you. Unless people are feeling kind hearted and want to waste their own time on strangers, it will never happen. Sorry to burst your bubble, but people don't often play games like diablo to help others maximize their loot-intake. RiF will not survive.
Really ? The rift keys are the main problem? I have 1000's of them in my stashes. They are worth about as much as a few copper coins. This change does not afffect me at all.
I thought RiF is to speed up the process, not because some people dont have any rift keys.
Twoflower: RiF exists because rifts are a better place to farm than bounties once you have the RoRG. Therefore, not having to do bounties to open rifts speeds up the process. Now that you have to do bounties anyway (albeit not as much), RiF cannot contribute. Illustration in solo play:
I want to farm t3 rifts, and I have 6 keys. I finish the rift in 5 minutes, and now I'm out of keys. I then do bounties for 15 minutes because I can't find the "#¤ exit to caverns of aranae until I've explored the entire map. Then I get enough keys to open another 5 minute rift. The efficiency of this is zero, obviously.
Enter RIF: I do the 5 minute rift, spend 1-2 minutes inviting 2-3 people to open the next one once they get their shards, and do another 5 minute rift. This should be roughly 3 times as efficient, and is also the reason Rift it Forward exists. So that we can farm continously were it is the most rewarding, and because a lot of us find bounties, split or otherwise, to be a waste of time.
Without the need for someone else to open your rifts for you, in order that you can save the time you are otherwise wasting in bounties, there can be no rift it forward. It would be illogical for me to spend the 1-2 minutes inviting 3 more people in.
Anyway, I like this change. As it is now, my group always keeps a spot open so we can invite someone else to open the next rift. Now we can play 4man again, and will at least have to spend slightly less time doing bounties.

Try playing solo. You'll burn through those keys way faster than you like.

You're not wrong in what you said in any way I just wanted to mention that you should probably stick to doing bounties on the most mobile classes (DH/Crusader) so Araneae takes 2-3 mins tops even with full exploration. Bounties on the slowpoke classes will kill the fun faster than a Mountain kills a Viper.

You have thousands of keys. Many people have close to zero rift keys (especially those who have decent RoRGs have close to zero incentive to do bounties).
RiF brings those people together. Plus, RiF is a nice way to get a ton of blood shards right away if you feel like gambling for a specific item. And of course 2 out of 3 people will get a fee rift guardian kill (no rift key payment, no rift running), so for them it's win-win.
Poor Kadala, she will have very little business coming her way very soon
While I like the change, I'm definitely gonna do lots of RiF opening til it hits. Until now I used to ask for invites when I thought I had a decent chance of not being the next opener. Now, with a cost of 1 key per rift soon, I can blow through most of them and try to get those last 2 jade pieces^_^

Now if only split bounties will be looked at >.<

This change is a small measurement indirectly against that exploiting.
Personally I think the blood shard currency is not really a great idea, it worked better in D2 when you gambled with gold.
