Well the main problem with this post is that while it says "legendary drop rates revealed" in the title of this post and the article, somewhere early in the article it says
"Note that 15% of item drops are un-Smart Drops, which is why your characters will sometimes find items “only” for other classes. (Including legendaries.)"
X (base loot chance) * Y (weighted) = Z (drop rate)
This article tells us what Y is, and not telling us what X and Z are.
Misleading title really. This entire article never revealed the drop rates, it just gives us data on how much it's weighted towards what items.
I know that you realize this, but you having found a set item is not proof that the drop rates are in a good place, just as my not having found a decent set item is not proof of the contrary.
...and you'd be 100% correct
the timing amused me greatly, I suppose. You see, I got home this afternoon and logged on to Bnet to see what the bitch 'o' the day was and saw this maelstrom of fury over the loot table "discovery". Shrugged it off with a hearty "LOL" and went in game. No less than 2 minutes later, an end game quality set piece.
Now, I've put some hours into RoS. First 2 weeks in SC, then I went HC when my new PC was done being built. My SC monk found many set items, and this trend is following into my HC experience. Forcing my anecdotal opinion that the loot tables seem very healthy.
Like Seifa....I'm a (typically) self found player that would like to see trading implemented.
I've made the argument before that I view trading as an intrigal part of end game entertainment in the ARPG genre. Years from now, when our stashes are full of all manner of gear, being able to barter and wheel 'n' deal provides another outlet for in-game activity.
Toward my quoting of Jay Wilson;
I realize that much has changed since he drove the franchise off a cliff. However, I find his assessment of trading in D3 to still ring quite true. When we find great items for classes/builds that we simply will never use, it's a crying fuckin' shame that these awesome items are smashed with Haedrig's hammer and reckoned as just another lousy crafting mat. Mr Wilson was right. Great items that a particular player finds but won't use should have a feeling of power. Under the purview of BoA, they do not.
Why do feel the need to display a pentagram in all your posts?
Cuz hail fucking satan ....that's why.
hahahahaha, you just made my day ruksak =D First post I see when I come home... lmao
You can always count on me for a smartass comment!
I suppose I should've told him that is my siggy. The pentagram is a clickable link to my Bnet armory profile. I thought that pentagram was quite fitting for the genre.
Tyrael's in D2 was a rare exception to the rest of the game when it comes to uniques. I think it might actually be the only item like that in d2 (from what I can recall). If you were boss farming, you could target farm and get it down to a 1:400-1:600 chance for most of the best unique items in the game.
This topic really changed to topic of trading pretty heavily...
Assuming the information leaked is true it's kind of silly that rng isn't really rng. Because of that I honestly think blizzard should give some semblance of control to the players say removing certain items from loot table or something like that would be good. Or to be able to decide a primary that won't roll on dropped legendaries.
In regards to the trading..just make equipment bind on equip / bind on reroll...it's not that hard and it is pretty much the exact middle between everything is bind on drop vs never binds.

Actually I'm surprised many of those cryers don't know what RNG is. For most of us who has dealt and sacrificed many for the RNG gods in other games, say WoW or any other form and mutation of the RPG genre, this isn't surprising to find weighted drops. Some rares are more common than others.
The crappy part about D3 over D2 is how much variation affixes can get when they finally do drop.
In D2, you get fluxes in numbers, say 6% to 8% life leech. Both of which are also useful.
In D3, the variation is so high, you may get the item but it rolled with a combination of stats and affixes so crap it's headed straight to the forge.
They took the RNG and went a little too far with it.
I say we move on from the religious aside. Quite a stupid tangent for us to be off on. If anyone has any further inquiries about my sig, please direct them to the nearest brick wall.

God: Really, Satan? Another loot QQ thread? Sure you caused enough misery and rage with those things
Satan: Hey man, that wasn't me. I've got the official forums locked down, but can't be fucked with 3rd-party fansites. The ROI is shit
G: Looks like you've got competition, then
S: Not competition, freelancers. That was whole point of that thing with the apple and garden. I'm outsourcing evil, baby!
G: ... to ax-grinding neckbeards? Really? Couldn't you stick with racist billionaires?
S: I like to keep a broad portfolio, and this small-time crap practically runs itself. I'm surprised you haven't interfered
G: Look. It's not my fault so many people think that a flat distribution is the only distribution, and the fix for the Confirmation Bias bug has been scheduled to ship after the next reset.
S: Ha! Now they're talking about us. I guess the 'Stop Bringing Up Religion And Politics In Every Conversation' bug is still being worked on?
Ya did 5 rifts last night got 0 legendary that was some buffed they did to it before. Guess I needed to run 10 more but I need more tokens and the game wont let me us TP's with out crashing so ya.......you think what Ill do insted. play a working game.
I find this all hilarious because of people not knowing the drop chances for the truly powerful stuff in D2. Only because of duping was ANY of it available to any normal human being.
Case in point: Ber rune, necessary to form Enigma. Original drop table for it was that it ONLY came from Pindleskin (not even Baal had it in his rune drop table), and it had such a low drop rate that you could bot 24/7 (remaking a game every 3 minutes to avoid realm down) and it would take you over a month to be guaranteed 1. That means, given the original drop rate of Ber rune, the most a D3 player could have seen is maybe 5 of them, ever, over 3 years (assuming someone out there has played 3500 hours +).

Nice dialogue. My personal vision, though, was a retelling of the Book of Job, in which God and Satan place a wager on whether Satan can tempt the most devout zachafella831 to curse the name of God, by forcing him to play Diablo 3 for months on end without ever receiving any worthy legendary or set items.

I'm sorry to hear that you worship and fill your heart with evil. I'll pray for you.

Lol I was reading original post and thinking, just another blind follower, probably christian, then go to page 5 and see this...... it all makes sense now
