Puzzle Ring dropped with some very nice affixes so I've been using it non stop and I noticed that when the gob picks up greys/ whites the ticker resets between games.
Id rather pick up the whites and greys to salvage because they aren't dropping enough on t3 to eventually get the gob to drop me a rare / leg.
Any idea how to turn off the gob? or is there a way blizz can fix it so the counter keeps going between games?
Puzzle Ring's new affect is a novelty. It sounds great as an idea, but in practice it really doesn't work out. The Common debris it just too important for crafting to ever be worth the goblin stealing all your whites. However I will point out that whites almost always drop from armor and weapon racks throughout the game. You have to make a point in clicking them in order to collect your white items. People have be trained so long to ignore that shit that it take a little effort to remember to click and gather them for the crafting mats. Trust me though, clicking through those racks in act 3 will yield plenty of common debris.
What would really be cool is a change to the puzzle ring. Maybe instead of collecting white items the Goblin merely trades them. So the Goblin will grab a white off the ground, then throw the item back out, with the chance of it being white, blue, yellow, orange or green. This makes the goblin not useless as most of the whites he takes will be returned, allowing players to still have their goblin, their whites, and possibly legendaries if the goblin feels nice.
Or at least, add a buff to the player to track how many items the goblin has picked up, as I'm fairly sure if you leave the game it resets the counter.

I would take that over losing crafting mats any day
It's totally useless now. I really dont want to give all whites and greys to the goblin. They really need to rethink this item...
No, they don't.
Most of the legendaries involve some kind of tradeoff. Slorak's Madness, for example, isn't great... unless you use Disintegrate. Then it's fucking amazing. You sacrifice some weapon damage for a major spell-specific buff that makes it better than any other item in that slot if you use that spell.
Puzzle Ring? If you don't want whites then equip it. If you do want whites then don't use it. No different than if you don't want to use Disintegrate on your wizard then you don't equip Slorak's Madness. It's about making choices, not making items that are BiS in every single situation. It's a good thing that Puzzle Ring has a downside. That's the whole point. In order to get those extra legendaries (which might actually be good if you're short on legendary crafting mats) you have to sacrifice something.

Crazy... I know.
It does still have the problem of not keeping track between games. I got one and did keeps 2, stonefort, and the 2 towers of the damned and it finally dropped an item at the end of the 2nd tower. If you finish a run with 12 picked up, you just wasted 100 common debris for nothing.

And that certainly is an issue that should be looked into because it's well beyond the player's control whether you get a number of white items that's evenly divisible by 15 or not in any particular run (unless you go to the tedium of picking up white items and only dropping 15 at a time which is kinda insane).
The rest of it, though, is silly. The whole point of the ring is to trade white items for yellow/orange/green items. If you're not willing to make that tradeoff then you should find a different ring to equip. Undoubtedly for some people they will focus less on crafting, and, therefore they'll make good use of the ring. If you want to focus heavily on crafting... it's not an item for you. I don't see the major problem there.
It's OK in Loot 2.0 if every item isn't used by every person. It's OK to have niche items like Justice Lantern. Every item doesn't have to pass the "if I find it will I immediately equip it and never remove it?" test.
And, ultimately, it's not that hard to put it in your stash, equip another ring, and go on a Halls of Agony run if you need white items to salvage. I can't go through that place without amassing 150+ debris at this point, and that's a pretty conservative estimate. I don't think it's that crazy for someone who is using the ring to unequip it and go on a white item farming run to amass crafting materials. It seems like quite a reasonable tradeoff to me.

I kinda agree with that.
Don't think the other part of it is a problem though, I'm happy with the tradeoff needed for the item to function.

No man is sane who does not know how to be insane on proper occasions.
