So I've been playing this morning for almost5 hours now. I've found 4 legs. The first 3 came relatively around the same time. The last one took a bit over an hour, and I've farmed for 1 hour and 23 minutes without a leg drop. I really like the new drop system and smart loot is just amazing. But I've played entire acts and only found 1 leg per game. This imo is nuts. I think 2 maybe 3 (which 3 may be pushing it) is sufficient. I have 58 mf on my wd. I know mf isn't really factored that much anymore, but an hour and a half of nothing. NOT COOL! I hear a lot of people say rng rng rng. I think rng is complete bullshit. Is the timer still in the game? Does it still work? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks and good luck hunting!
I don't know about a timer "still" being in the game (I don't think there ever was one before), but I seem to recall a blue post from a while back saying something like legendaries should be dropping at least once every two hours or so from 2.0.1 on. That certainly seems to be the case with me, although I also got a 2-3 rapidly during my first play session with the new patch.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
I haven't gotten anymore than 1 per game since patch. In ptr, I would sometimes get 2 or 3 doing the same runs I'm doing now. Just thought maybe the drop rates were kinda dumbed down a bit. Also,I thought they installed the timer. If I remember correctly they said it was between 45 and 60 minutes.. Could be wrong though.
IIRC Devs aim for 1leg/hour, there is a timer that guarantees a drop after a period of time to compensate for bad RNG gods, I would expect it to be around the 2-3 hour mark but have no confirmation of this.
The timer only ticks while you are 'playing' that is out in the world killing stuff.

You found in 5 hours what they intended to be 8 hours, you are ahead of the RNG curve.
The fact that some people claim to go for 10+ hours without finding a legendary is not only not our intent, but should in fact be impossible. We added a system in the expansion that tracks the amount of time you spend fighting creatures without finding a legendary and after a certain period of time will slowly start increasing the legendary drop rate. Once a legendary drops for you, actual item not crafting recipe or material, we reset that timer. This is meant to be a safety net so that the random can never be too extreme to the negative end. If players are legitimately going 18+ hours and not seeing a legendary it's possible that there are some bugs floating around that need to be identified.
Drop rates were at about 1 leg per 2 hours, but that was before Travis said that they had been doubled. The question there is, was that in normal, T6, or somewhere in between.
This doesn't mean that you'll always find one per hour, but you can reasonably expect one every 1-2 hours, and if it gets too much further than that, the timer should start slowly increasing your leg drop chance until you do.
In a game where drops are subject to RNG, it can be annoying when a you play for an hour and half without one dropping, but that's one of the reasons for the paragon system. If you get nothing else from a play session, you should get some paragon experience and some crafting materials (if want/need them).
I love the paragon system. But myself ( like many others as well) love tofind legs!! I mean to me it's the best part of the game, especially since you can do a variety of many builds around 1 legendary ora set. I guess it's good not to have too many drops, for people would not be playing as long. At the same time though, my personal opinion is that going over an hour and a half without a leg dropping is just too much. Thanks for the feedback and information guys!
I don't know where the one every two hours came from but the way I read Travis's comment was that the it tracks your legendary drop time and once you HIT the two hour mark of fighting mobs you end up with your chance for a legendary going up with time as you fight more so that no one should go more than 4-5 hours without one regardless of difficulty level. THe Idea being that there is STILL RNG but you should not be screwed up the ass by it completely even if you play on normal with no magic find. I don't think he ever guaranteed you one other than bosses. Or was I just misreading?
There is no simple formula, the system is very complicated, follow the links in Maffia's post (#6).
Basically it comes down to one legendary per hour, but as Blizzard realized in many many many of their games, players always outsmart the system and in the end there'll probably be a lot of people that get a rate of 2 legs per hour. That means after 500 hours you'll have found a thousand legendaries - but the game is still supposed to be fun at that point, and drops should be worth something, remember that! So if you think the drop rates are too low, bookmark this thread and come back to it in a year, I guarantee you: you'll think differently about it.
I've played too many games with artificially elevated drop rates - there's basically zero long-term motivation. Give the game a few days (or even weeks, wait for RoS as well) before your final verdict.
