They don't need to have open beta because you can just go to streamers and watch the action for free. >_>
The purpose of a beta is not about giving players access to the game before release, and contrary to what some people right now seem to suggest it's also not meant to give players hints on how to prepare for an upcoming expansion. The one and only purpose of a beta is testing. Fixing bugs, balancing the game, testing the game's code and servers' stability. That's it.

Oh I wasn't crying out for free beta. Heck, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't like it but I realize that beta does NOT mean early play time or that it's a game demo.
Yea, I figured there wasn't going to be one since I searched everywhere and there wasn't even one mention of an Open Beta. I'd like to see them open it maybe 1 week before the expansion goes live. It would give people just enough time to test things out so when March 25th hits people aren't wasting time. I know a lot of people have multi-60s and I'd like to see how the new skills work out, plus the new class etc. Oh well, Blizz will always do what Blizz wants.

That was true in the past. The purpose of 90% of betas now is marketing hype. Why do you think the first people invited were streamers (funny that that blew up in their faces)
You need to read up on Blizzard's "family & friends" community that gets access to all betas. People get invited to find bugs, period. It just happens to be that some of the streamers (see Jaetch or INVIS) also happen to be those players who provide invaluable feedback to any game - not necessarily D3 - and thus at some point were invited to Blizzard's friends & family community. And everyone in there gets a D3 invite unless they decline (and who would do that). There were in fact quite a few D3 streamers that didn't get an invite during the first F&F phase and only got in because their army of fanboys created millions of QQ threads.
Yeah, of course there's always a lot of hype involved, but Blizzard also acknowledged that it's impossible to keep everything secret until release, which is why they lifted the NDA right at the start of the F&F beta. This beta was 20% hype and 80% (or even more) testing.

Do you also think the vanilla "beta" up to the Skeleton king was actually for testing?
If you really think this is for testing...well not much I can say to convince you...and most of what I can say would get me a warning.
Had a long reply, but I'll just keep it short and agree with Bagstone. If the worst case scenario is blizzard is having a beta so they can hype the game, you haven't dug up much dirt.
Just trollin' really.
