Hello all,
new here.
I am wondering what classes are looking good for the upcoming expac? And even without, ie w\o ROS, once patches go live?
I've done a little research into classes and it seems that Barbs and Wizards are currently, as the game stands very good for solo play?
What i'm wanting to know is, best builds for a newbie like myself, skills, gear and anything else that would maximize the best classes for solo play.
I hope i'm not out of place with this post, would be muchly appreciated to get some feedback from you pro guys who have played this game for ages and educate a new player, like myself:)
Thanks in advance.
PS: I understand playstyle is important and really dictates what class a player plays, i'd be happy with melee style play, or caster.
I think the wizard got the biggest facelift with the skill changes patch. It's the class I found most fun. Monk was a disappointment Witch doctor saw almost no changes at all...
Ok, so Wizard is looking good still? Is it a forgiving class to play for a newcomer to the game?
As in easy to play and learn?
Well if you're looking into the wizard and have done some preliminary research into the builds and skills as of now, you'll probably notice that the prevalent build is utilising Critical Mass to endlessly Frost Nova mobs. This changes drastically or looks to change when RoS is out but for a feel of what changes you could expect to see, you could hop on the PTR and have a first-hand experience. If not, there's also YouTube videos aplenty for getting a good feel of what classes are about. ^^
The wizard in RoS has absolutely NOTHING to do with the wizard on live. I don't think there is a single build or playstyle that will transfer unchanged from D3V to RoS. So if you decide to play a wizard in RoS, be prepared that you need to completely change your thinking (you'll switch all gear anyways, so it ain't that bad).
That being said, every class is "looking good to solo with". It really doesn't matter at all, and thanks to account-wide paragon levels you can even switch characters in RoS without major drawbacks (even gear isn't the problem as you could theoretically reforge main stat). If you're not sure which class to pick, I'd suggest to level all classes to 60. You could even copy all your characters to the PTR to check out how you like the new skills - although level 60 and 70 are quite different; at least get rid of all life steal before testing and keep in mind that much of it will change.
It looks like the Wiz has the most changes and the WD the least. I'm really looking forward to leveling a new Wiz in RoS when the price is sensible enough to dive in.
I played a fresh Monk on the PTR and really enjoyed it, the revised Dashing Strike felt really good, and I found a helm that launched a fireball for 300% damage each time I used lashing tailkick. Rushing about dealing damage all over the place in quick succession felt really good.
very good guide on the Wizard. Exactly what i was looking for.
Will you keep it updated for future patches both for D 3 and ROS?
One can only hope.
Thanks. I just realized that the links in my signature weren't working. Tried to edit, and no my signature is gone. Completely. LOL! Halp anyone?
I kept it up-to-date with the patches, but since 1.07 there weren't any gear changes that required major edits. And there will be no patch before RoS and its entire itemization overhaul, which will render my guide useless.I can't "update" this guide for RoS, because absolutely everything will change. There's not a single sentence in this guide I could left unchanged. For RoS, we need completely new wizard guides - written from scratch. As I'm playing beta, I realize more and more that itemization kinda works, as it's not as straightforward and like a "one way street" as some people argue. And that's not even taking the Torment-quality legendaries into account. So, to answer your question... if I think such a guide would be possible for RoS, and I have the time, and no one else does it before me, I might write a similar guide for RoS. But right now, I don't think this will be the case. We'll see :-)

Thanks for the feedback so far.
Question: apart from youtube, live streams, etc, are sites like noxxic any good for a basic to medium understanding of class builds etc?
And this build right here:

would this be a good solo build?
I don't know enough about the game to know if any of those skills are even there in ROS beta or make it live.
I've played extensively on the PTR with all the classes. They all work well.

Do you want to play now? Play a Barb.
Do you want to start come RoS? I haven't yet decided between Wiz and Crusader for myself.
