Oh I know what the lore suggest, trust me. I was adamant that the Soulstone fell towards Sanctuary as well. I'm just pointing out that in the cinematic, it is actually shown disintegrating into nothing. It doesn't continue falling, it turns to dust before the shot cuts.
That storyboard doesn't really indicate anything, as the soulstone indeed was shown falling as the storyboard suggests, but it disintegrates shortly afterwards.
When did Tyrael say that if we didn't smash it that the evils would be reborn? (just out curiosity). I know this is what the lore suggests and is what we did in D2, but I can't recall it ever being said in-game in Diablo 3.
Also, if the souls of the Lords of Hell are indeed still within the Black Soulstone somewhere then they wouldn't have returned to the Black Abyss (with Leah) as they usually do upon defeat. The whole original purpose of the soulstones was to act as a prison and trap the Evils instead of letting them return to the Black Abyss to be reborn and rebuild their power.
This is further highlighted in the "Wrath" animated short when Imperius kills Diablo instead of keeping him captive.
He tells us in his dialogue in Act III.
The Flawed Stone Available at the start of the Quest: The Siege of Bastion's Keep (Act III)
Available after listening to Kulle's Black Soulstone conversation. Tyrael:
The Black Soulstone was created to be an improvement over the original three. They were crafted to contain single demons, but Kulle intended his to hold many.
But the Black Soulstone is flawed and cannot contain that many demons for long. We must capture Azmodan within it and shatter it... lest all these Evils be reborn.
What you're talking about (the Black Soulstone 'disintegrating') was what the 'blue' post was about, I think. I loaded up my game and you can definitely see it falling in one piece, and if you look closely, you can see the trail of smoke still going down as it moves into the cloud bank.
Hmm I disagree about the stone falling still. The cloud bank that you are referencing is very far in the distance, as made obvious by the tops of the structures poking through and the lightning storm that seems to be inside. As far as distance and scale go, the black soulstone couldn't have dropped behind that cloud. It had a long ways to go before it even reached it.
Edit: Just my personal opinion though and I'm probably wrong, will have to wait and see.

I want to say you're reaching here. I really think it just fell. *maybe* it looks like it disintegrates because it got reduced to a smaller size?
After watching that ending cinematic frame by frame, I'm fairly confident that the Black Soulstone disintegrates completely as opposed to falling back towards Sanctuary. Sure it's the last thing to dissolve, but it's quite obvious it turns into dust and doesn't continue falling.
I think the Lords of Hell will appear again in the second expansion, in which we try to rescue Leah's soul from the Black Abyss. After all the Lord of Hell return there whenever they are defeated (they can't be killed, only trapped), and we know for a fact that's where Leah is and that we will try an save her (devs mentioned this).
I think the Dirgest Jewel Covetous mentions might come into play somehow and we might try to use it to trap the evils.
I know the BlackSoulstone was made by Kulle but isn't it written that Soulstones can only be destroyed at the Hell Forge?
Yep. There's no way just falling from the sky would destroy the soulstone, when before we had to travel to hell to use a special friggin hammer on a special forge.
I thought the exact same thing initially but just watch the cinematic, and make sure it's in very high definition. You can clearly see the black soulstone disintegrate to the point that it is just dust and it floats away. When the shot cuts away, there is nothing there.
No Indeed the stone does fall, what you see disintegrating is what's left of Diablo the stone for sure 100% falls and does not disintegrate.
Means we'll be seeing the Three evils again. The Temple of Triune is heavily talked about in the sin war trilogy in which Lucion, son of Mephisto, is gathering an army of people and demons on Sanctuary to fight the Zakarum church led by Inarius and eventually take over sanctuary. The Triune worships the Three Prime Evils, so most likely we'll be seeing Lilith(Take this with a grain of salt) and The Three Primes. Lucion can not be in the game because he is officially dead, killed by Uldyssian.
2. There is also an interesting passage that suggests Tyrael flees the High Heavens after Diablo's defeat at the end of D3, citing he is tormented by the deaths of his comrade and burden with guilt.
It's clearly an amalgamation of the three Prime Evils with;
-Diablo's torso and back spikes -Mephisto's upward pointing horns -Baal's lower half
Is this a hint at the final showdown?
This is incorrect. The official "Prime Evil" Is a Dragon with 7 heads each one the embodiment of the 7 Evils. It's name is Tathamet. If anything that picture looks liek a gigantic ass Baal that is much spikier than I remember.
4. Thanks to Crim for pointing this one out! On the actual insight editions page there is a picture of a new demon and the filename suggesting his name is "Malthus";
Malthus / Maltheal.. coincidence? Or is this the fallen angel of Wisdom in demon form? Maybe it could be a new type of monster in the expansion, a demonic minion of Maltheal perhaps?
Hmm this one is extremely interesting. You see all the tendrils from his back, those could be his wings in demonic form. It would certainly fit his name, and it looks to be angel tendrils but instead of being composed of light they're made of flesh, possibly rotting flesh, and they seem to be somewhat spikey..., for reference this is Malthael. Notice the writing on his body and how his wings all curl over to form what looks like sickles. the same as that demon,s all crookedly curl too.

Yeah the demon on the picture is definately Baal. Maybe it's from his battle with the horadrim
EDIT: Actually it seems pretty likely to be from his fight with the horadrim. You clearly see mages around him, and the horned fella in front of him could be Tal Rasha. Remember that his helm actually had horns.
Great connection, completely forgot about the Horadrims fight with Baal, and especially Tal's imprisonment of him. Yeah that def is Baal. Just in a much spikier and grand form. wonder if that's his true form?

Oh I know that, but as we saw at the end of D3 with Diablo as the combined "Prime Evil", the form is subjective. Perhaps it is Baal, but if that's truly his real form (he is absolutely gigantic), then why didn't reveal himself as that in D2? Seems like he would've had a much better chance of winning if he was all godzilla'd out like that.
No Indeed the stone does fall, what you see disintegrating is what's left of Diablo the stone for sure 100% falls and does not disintegrate.
Although I definitely think it's possible, I don't think it's a "100%" confirmation as you say. If the stone does continue to fall, it picks up pace exponentially all the sudden as it becomes the size of.. well.. nothing within a second or so.

What I think is that while we had the combination of 7 Lords of Hell, we had Diablo as the dominate one out of the seven. Thus that means it resemebles more of Diablo than of any of the others or even Tathamet. If that is the case, then I would guess that if neither had full control and they all shared(PSSSH!! Who are we kidding?) then we would get closer to the true form of Tathamet. Though I think what might recreate him would have to be someone combining all the powers but not the personalities.

Does this look like the real world to you? If you remember from the cinematic after Act 1, Tyreal fell from the High Heavens to Sanctuary. He WAS the meteor that all the heroes were searching for. If he can survive that with only slight amnesia, then I bet a crystal holding the power of the Lords of Hell can stay intact.

First to the Diablo point, It is because the soulstone was put into Diablo's child's body. therefore Diablo was very dominant in nature. Whereas if all 7 were put into the black soulstone and then shoved into Tathamets carcass, which is still intact in the burning hells, then Tathamet would be reborn. This is where the last expac will most likely go.
Second point, he was still in Baals soulstone somewhat limiting his powers. So yeah that is probably as someone else said the fight of the Horadrim vs Baal, in which Baal didn't get confined into a soulstone yet.

If you look close enough dust falls away from the stone but it never goes away, and Metzen pretty much confirms its still around during the CE interview, which you can probably find on youtube somewhere.

Really, you guys are debating whether or not a stone with demonic souls in it could survive a fall from the heavens ...with science? It's a video game, the crystal could sprout fucking wings and fly up tyreals ass if they wanted it to.

Well clearly, I wouldn't want tyrael's ass to be penetrated, but seriously though I think debating whether or not a demonic crystal would break apart in the atmosphere of a video game is well...a little too nerdy even for me.
With that said, I'm happy the game is getting some excitment again, but they won't earn my money unless they showcase a lot of needed improvements in the game, aka no story board mode. I really don't know why this one bothers me as much as it does, but it really pisses me off.
Wait a second, this may have been obvious to those who support the theory that the prophecy is probably taking about Mathael (spelling), but it just clicked for me that it mentions wings. Angelic wings? I can't think of any evils having wings off the top of my head, so is that more proof?
With that said, I'm happy the game is getting some excitment again, but they won't earn my money unless they showcase a lot of needed improvements in the game, aka no story board mode.
What do you exactly mean by this ? I noticed other players also complaining about being spoonfed with lore. Is it because of all the cut scenes ?
I agree some cut scenes are getting annoying (and being bad at HC, I leveled a lot of characters and went through the whole game many times), but on the other hand I can already say D3's story will be much more memorable to me than D2's was. Maybe they should try to find a middle ground.
No no, not the cut scenes, although they should get rid of them after the first time, that or allow you to opt out of them. By story board mode I mean how every game is quest based, not just act based. They need to just allow you to do anything in act 1 regardless and not have to pick a quest to start from. It's annoying and it limits public activity.

So what you're saying is that it's too nerdy to talk about any kind of logical reasoning, as soon as we're talking about something not real life?
You must've been one of the kids who one-strapped their bags to school ;-)
apparently its shifted back to two-strapping.
but, I'm pretty sure logic goes out the window when you're killing goat men for 2-3 hours a day.

We are not discussing if it could survive the fall, obviously it could.
I just believe the stone continues to "disintegrate" in the same way that Diablo's body does, not from friction. I just think before the shot cuts the stone is no more. It doesn't go behind the clouds as they are too far away, and if it just falls out of view then that means it picked up speed pretty quickly..
it's just a personal opinion though. I understand it's likely the stone didn't disintegrate and has landed somewhere in Sanctuary.

I don't think it landed anywhere on Sanctuary because Diablo fell out of the High Heavens which is a different plane from Sanctuary and not a place atop Sanctuary's skies.
It is kind of weird that they would toss Diablo over the edge like that and not take out the soulstone. Makes me think that there were some things not shown to us in the video. It might have been Imperius who tossed out Diablo's corpse because he wanted to deal with Diablo himself, and now he wants to make sure he gets to battle the demon again like a battle crazy fool.

Although whether or not it exists on a different plane is arguable, it definitely exists "above" Sanctuary in one way or another as witnessed by Tyrael's fall from Heaven.
Diablo 1 suggests that the Burning Hells are likewise below Sanctuary, but I think a lot of that lore has been retconned to suggest that it was simply Diablo spreading Hell in Sanctuary as opposed to actually being the Hell we see in Diablo 2.
inb4 imperius was infected by diablo's stabity stab stab
You're a bit late, someone already pointed that out.
