It strikes many as a bit odd that they're so aggressively marketing a different platform release for game that many people feel is very much broken.
I wouldn't even give a shit by this point, after all this time, if I wasn't so sure that d3 had such incredible potential.
I agree with you - but I think there is a higher corporate influence/momentum to consider here.
The game's design at release supported new systems that were being tested for the very first time - live - on a Blizzard game.
I don't think they expected such a sweeping backlash at the design of the game as they got and it clearly wasn't something they were willing to fix quickly. It isn't because they can't - they won't. Changes have slowly been made and the console can certainly be a cause for that - but I think its a minor cause.
The easiest way to bring the game back into alignment (shedding the old design) with community expectations was to slowly adjust the current game and then release an expansion that pleased the masses.
That expansion would need to be available for the PC and shortly there after for the console. So they get the game going for the console and when that is stable - they drop the expansion so it can hit both platforms.
Corporate momentum. More dollars for shareholders.
That has to be one the most influential changes to account for when considering the evolution of the Diablo franchise, they have grown to be a much bigger company driven by a much greater corporate attitude, of course that's why the console release is such a big deal its first and foremost about greater profits, making the game better is an indirect route to achieving that. It's not the individual developers fault or anyone else its the company motive and values as a whole which really determines the product which we interact with.
Yes because a Diablo release for the play-station from 1998(which i played btw) voids arguments which are primarily about a game that was released in 2012.
Quite frankly, you opened that door. You used the argument saying Diablo was "a PC only game". Only Blizzard can honestly say that. And they're saying exactly the opposite right now.
We haven't received many pc-related news on DFans simple because there hasn't been many pc-related news (and even yet we are seeing some guides, articles, discussions and feedback requests lately). The console news are just as important to some people. If you're not one of those, just ignore those news articles. Easy peasy.
If they spent all this time they have dedicated to consoles on improving the game we'd have updates every month. They honestly dont even have to do that much. The game is amazing. Hell any game where you can do the exact same thing over and over 10k times and still come out saying "I cant wait to gear up enough to do this in the higher difficulty where the mobs have slightly more health It will be so awesome" is a game that kicks serious ass. I'm incredibly sick of waiting for them to get their heads out of their asses and bring this game up to new levels of amazing. Fans have already given them more amazing ideas than they could ever possibly need. This is so F-ing infuriating.

I know how it is to have corporate types dictating bad direction to you. Been there before in previous careers.
However, I think Diablo 3's trouble came from both ends. I'm sure the devs get frustrated having to bow to corporate logistics.
But.....there is much blood on the devs hands as well.
Silly things that seem to betray common sense. The item identification process is a great example of the odd disconnect between devs and the players. It used to take several minutes to ID and handle a bag full of items at launch. WHY......why would they think it wise to have something so innocuous as id'ing items be such a pain in the ass?
So...they "fixed" it. But it was still a pain in the ass, only slightly less. So....they had to go back and fix it again.
Legendary items. Who the fuck approved those for launch? This certainly wasn't a corporate entity's fault. So...they "fixed" them. But they still suck. A year later....and they're "fixing" them again.
I tried to bring the need for a pick-up toggle to their attention. A blue responded that "We're aware this is frustrating. However, we don't think more options are the answer. We're going to make less items drop". Items are still going to drop. It takes only 1 item to cause this issue. That's not a fix.
That falls in line with the two issues I mentioned above. Where they "fix" an issue by not actually fixing the issue. It takes them multiple tries to fix even the most mundane problems. Why? That's not the corporate entities at work. That's bad development.
I can't figure out if they're stubborn or just just untalented.
And, also, there is another thing. All of those things that you may find annoying and bad designed, are not preventing casual players from getting a console/PC copy. So, why "waste" developer's time into such nonsense?.
From a 100% business point of view, they are right.

As far as going back and fixing the subtleties, I suppose a corporate type may frown on man hours for such a thing. However, what they frown on the most is double handling i.e. going back to fix the same thing multiple times (identification process/itemization etc). A quality product is defined by it's subtle nuances. Which is what struck me as odd way back after launch.
The combat is top-shelf fucking crazy good. The skills, graphics, sound, all terrific. But they stumble on irritaing issues like how to identify items?
Look, they got paid for D3, true. Big-time.
But I expect D3 to be slated for at least 2 x-pacs. Now, if people find too much issue with the "little things" not getting fixed and they quit, find another game and choose not to purchase the x-pac, well that adds up to millions of dollars lost.
Let's not forget the RMAH. Less quality = less players = lost revenue. I'm sure the higher ups want every corner ironed out smooth. But somehow, the little things fell through the cracks and made a big mound of shit that distract from the beauty and potential of Diablo 3. There's a palatable disconnect between the corporate entities, the devs and the players.

As Zero Stated, you went down that path. Stating this was a PC only game, considering you just said you've played that specific version on the console, your whole stance makes zero fucking sense at this point. Your whole argument about the site showing news for multiple platforms was a joke to begin with. As I stated previously, If you don't like it, buy your own domain, start coding and post what you want.
I'll give you that its frustrating to see so much news about a console format for a game that in my opinion is still in shambles and still very much under utilized and down right broken in some aspects. Just look at what they're doing with Titan, apparently they've scrapped certain parts of it and reassigned people..it doesn't sound like everything is going according to plan over there as of late.
At the end of the day blizzard is about the money, and aggressively pushing another route to generate revenue is what they're going to have to do. If there isn't anything to report that's PC related..of course this site won't have much else posted besides console news.
Because I'm mentally deficient, I'm going to reserve judgement on whether or not the console version has 'held up' anything until I see exactly what Blizzard is planning for the PC version, and how quickly they deliver it. If their 6-month plan is 'add commas' and 'nerf uber-boss health by 5%', yeah screw that. But trying to second-guess motivations and effort with zero information at hand is a fool's game.
However, at the risk of pointing out the obvious, Blizzard's PR department is perfectly capable of trying to put a positive spin on horseshit, and I have no doubt that if they were diverting PC dev resources to the console version, they happily gild that turd. Remember the RealID debacle?
The thing i dont understand is, who is actually going to buy the console version.
I can't see myself (being a Softcore PC player) wanting to buy D3 for console - it would feel like I just killed all my PC characters and started again. Only the Hardcore PC players could cope with such a thing..
I think it is targeted at mainly new players who did not play on PC - the console only players.
It is also targeted for d3jsp to make money again without an AH to compete with...
- Get ready for Duped Items and Gold in the Console versions... Being able to save your character to USB will be the cause.
I'm with the OP on the "not caring about the console ports" part. However, there are people who are looking forward to its release. Just suffer through it until the dust settles.
No AH
Offline Mode
Split screen local co-op with FFA loot
High quality loot drops and crafts tailored to the class that found and made them
I dont know about you but it seems that we as PC gamers have been beta testing the real Diablo 3 for console players...
I mean come on... Blizzard puts in the AH and RMAH and then cripples the game so people would need to use the RMAH and in turn make blizz more money. Only now once the RMAH sales died down do they admit the AH was a bad thing...
So now 360 and PS3 gamers get a version of D3 without the scam.
No AH - because there's no easy way to implement that in those platforms? And the playerbase will certainly be smaller for it to be active? Offline Mode - because it's not as needed to enforce DRM in consoles nowadays? Also related to the lack of an economy/AH and not needing to fight duping/hacking? Split screen local co-op with FFA loot - how would that be a good thing in PCs? High quality loot drops and crafts tailored to the class that found and made them - because of the lack of an AH so people don't spend 20 years trying to get to MP10?

People don't seem to understand the basic concept behind the expression "beta testing".

Dear God, I don't even... nevermind... move along.

HAHA!!! You don't think Blizzard designed D3 in such a way that people were funneled toward the AH to progress? haha and my future credibility is in question? lord. Yes move along indeed.

The RMAH? No I dont. The AH? It was probably considered as a factor. And underestimated.
When you present yourself to a discussion by mentioning "the legit way to play" (as you did in another thread), people will automatically disregard your opinion. There IS NO such thing as "a legit way to play". The entitlement and arrogance shown by that absurdly tunnel visioned statement aren't exactly traits other people like, sorry.
