This quote here making it easily available to getting your character on to a flash drive and makes me think of borderlands or any other game since characters aren't going to be server side and being able to play the game off line opens tons of possibilities for hacking, modding etc. Since it also will not be used through battle.net in any way shape or form won't altering items, stats etc be very easy once we/they understand how to alter the coding on the save or simply hex editing and with no obstacles to get around It seems, once discovered it'd spread extremely fast potentially causing issues such as it was in borderlands? Correct me if I'm wrong, which I hope I am and it won't be as easy as it seems?
Well the data is easily accessible, it is not cross-checked with server, so it seems it might be possible. It may however use some kind of encoding, or other method of obscuring the data, making it almost impossible. If it is simple plain-text or binary, then it's a matter of days. Can't tell for sure right now, as I have no knowledge of the file used nor of the systems on the console.
Blizzard is usually really good about preventing stuff like that but it is on console and there is no battle.net integration or server side anything. Hopefully it's avoided somehow or at least made extremely difficult to accomplish where it won't become popular over night.
Well you'll probably need the added step of using a PC to do it, which is likely to limit the popularity of tweaking chars, that said it's almost a certainty that someone will find a way, and it will be done, even if it's just generating perfect items which are then sold on d2jsp.
Not intended as an offense, but do we really care about this?
So what if people can hack their games and make their characters uber powerful? It's not a competitive game. And what are people going to do after making their character near perfect in a game that's about hunting loot? Just randomly kill stuff? That will surely make the game feel boring as hell to them, and they'll leave, which is just fine.
Without the AH, public games (which I'm not sure we'll have) and the need for a "balanced MMO economy" I couldn't care less that people are able to decide what they're gonna do with their own gaming experience.
Yes, it's that easy. People won't even need to hack their consoles, just copy usb data around to dupe like mad. Any kind of "public" trading will be utterly useless.
Duping sadly may very well be rampant in the console version since a player could do a backup of their data, hand off items to their buddies, and restore the data to their console, thus generating more of the same items. This is pretty much how a lot of players duped for themselves in Diablo 2.
As for modding itself, that can be prevented, but to do so would require all files to adhere to strict MD5 hashes and if they're off at all, the file would be invalidated and require a repair/reinstall. The thing of that is, it's very prone to the least bit of data corruption which can make life a misery for both troubleshooting and in general for legitimate players.
I'm personally for modding if it enhances the longevity of a game. And in Diablo 3's case, that would definitely be the case considering the current content level and how unrewarding the loot system is.

It's more about the appeal of having these great items that nobody else does or having near perfect or perfectly rolled gear that's better thane every body else. Obviously there will always be people trying to exploit a game and I've done it myself when it comes to being bored of it, then taking it to a new level getting more enjoyment out of it from modding or altering things about it. But what I want is the feel of D2. No auction house and it taking more work and time to get exactly what you want or finding the right person to trade the right piece of gear to, to get the last thing you need. I really miss that little bit of extra effort it took. I fall into that category of people who wish D3 was more like D2 and this is more of a chance to get that feeling without the AH being so easily available but with trading and saving up or bargaining for items is what is in place of that.
What I hope to never see is a scenario where "Holy crap, nice weapon. Can you dupe it for me?" plays out or is even possible.
EDIT: Any game can be competitive btw lol and I like to be better than average.
EDIT 2: If it's going to be as simple as a USB transfer, drop, save, reload. Then it's going to be saving up a highly stackable item at first. Duping the hell out of it = unlimited gold. Crafting the best gear. Game over.

I really hope that, since the console versions can be played completely offline, Diablo 3 will finally see some mods. I don't care for duping/cheating, but I'd like people to mod Diablo 3 at least to the extent that Diablo 2 was modded. I imagine mods on console would not be especially popular though, as it would require a console that could run unsigned code. Good quality user-made content can add a lot to a game.
If you can save it on an USB. You can edit the file.
Wait a few days, maybe only hours, after release and a "trainer" will be released.
Console games generally leak before their release, so it's possible a trainer will be available before the release date. I don't imagine it would take too long though.
I might just get a console to play D3 offline and hopefully there will be mods for it like D2 had. That would be awesome.
Too me D3 is missing Mods to make the game awesome.
What D3 already has quite a bit of hacks, spammers, and the like. Mods are something different and bring a whole lot of fun to the games at least for me. There were a few instances of item duping and such as well.
D3 should become offline available as well for PC users. It could be possible to alter the code in some way that the game will be working in offline mode in a different way so it help prevent some hacks from happening but then again being totally online has not stopped the hacks from happening.
D3 to me is not competitive and I know people can make any thing into a pissing sport to see who can piss the farthest. D3 is about killing monsters and looting the corpse and hopefully getting something that can be used.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
It would make up for blizzard lack of everything. They obviously can't do the work themselves it takes them forever to do anything.
Modding on PC would be awesome.
More maps, Skill trees, More weapons, monsters, pvp.. Skins.
Exactly. Modders won't have the same degree of exhaustive QA as Blizz, which allows them to publish stuff much more quickly. Mods were a lot of fun in D2, I wish the D3 devs would just embrace it. It would be great to have official development tools/an editor released by Blizzard, along with software similar to Steam Workshop to support the mod community. Hopefully someone will steal a D3 server from Blizzard sometime soon and release the files to the public...

Interesting to see your point of view. I guess a lot of people kinda share that feeling, no matter how "single player focused" a game is.
I understand and respect that - I just don't share the same feeling.

Will be interesting to see what people dig up, but unless Blizzard have been really careless it's not going to affect the PC version in any way.
It's one of the reasons why the console version of D3 has no RMAH and is separated from the D3 PC community.
