But, if someone say, is doing MP10 ubers on hardcore, and gets killed by a lag spike, you would probably expect them go run off at the mouth with a stream of obscenities.
This is the problem with your sentiment, not everybody "expects" that. In fact, I would say keep your mouth shut when experience a problem in the game. I don't care about your issues with your ISP or your lack of skill and do not need to hear anybody cuss up a storm while venting during a temper tantrum. Grow up and act like an adult and instead of opening your mouth and proving what a moron you are, keep your mouth shut and let us just assume you are an idiot.
Now your a fanboy for not wanting TO DEAL WITH cursing in-chat. Why do people feel the need to curse away in chat? Personally I think it makes you look stupid.
Why not turn on the filter, then? Isn't that what it's there for?
Better yet, why not grow up and use restraint when playing the game. Instead of going crazy in the chat and cussing it up, obey the rules and refrain from being a douche bag? Always the victim, right Maka? Always an excuse as to why you don't have to do the right thing.... Pathetic.
And for all of you posting in here... If you didn't catch it, this is obviously a troll thread. You don't need to read much past this quote from the OP...
I don't think people that disagree with mature language rules have to be habitual cursers. I think some of them are people actively being selfish and not thinking about people who don't think like themselves. This is not a new behavior, and definitely not only on this topic. I think some are hoping the game they are playing is different than it is. I also think some honestly don't realize the audience of people they have hearing the language they are using.
If I happen to see a friend posting an item on general chat, I might feel like calling him a "lucky bitch" for finding such a great item. However, if some moron (who, by the way, is too sensitive to stand the sight of the word "bitch", yet not sensitive enough to turn on the mature language filter) decides to report me, I might get banned.
In your example you reply in general. So you know that swearing in general may lead you to get banned, but you do it anyway? Then have the wit to call someone else a moron because you broke the rules willingly? That sounds like the very definition of irony.
I could care less about typical profanity. The only words that bother me are ignorant dumb asses using pejorative terms like "nigger" "fag" "jew", basically any prejudice word. Surprisingly, you see that kind of talk often on B.net and I report that shit FAST. you can call me a mother fucker, or an ass hole, or whatever, but don't be callin' nobody racial slurs or prejudice remarks. I'm not saying you were using words like that, but I will say I'd be damn surprised if you got banned for telling someone to "fuck off" or something.
In your defense, I do agree that if theres a mature language filter those who are sensitive to such literature should utilize that tool (and its on by default) So the fact they turned it off, got upset, and reported you makes me a little sour. However, if you were speaking in the terms I said, well, you deserved it. I just don't see Blizzard banning someone for using typical profanity.

The mature language filter is there few people want to have to see online tantrums or abuse.
The mature language rule is there because even fewer people want to have to put up with repeat offenders.
... and please, if Blizzard's rules about player conduct irk you, don't flock to PoE. The game deserves a better class of player.
