well I was having fun with my claw shadow, but I wasn't sure about longivity. However, something that does keep me comming back is to see all the new skills they've added If they can keep that up, I might keep trying it, but I'm afraid that will only last so long.
I'm not sure what a claw shadow is?
Anywho...what I'm asking is, gimme something intrinsic about the game itself that you (anyone) feel is to such a level of quality that you can see a similar draw as we had with Diablo 2. What is there intrinsically about the game that you feel may suck you in and create a similar "addiction" as Diablo 2 presented itself as to so many folks?
I say this because so many people are disappointed that D3 doesn't have D2's addictive, cocaine like draw, causing players to not be able to quit.
Shortly after making such comparison, people compare PoE to D3.
So I think it's fair to ask what is it, specifically, that is intrinsic to PoE as a whole that you think may cause you to play for years and years?
Ah, well it's a Shadow (character class) that uses Claw weapons. hehe
I think you pose an excellent question. It's one I really can't answer myself becuase, while I love the idea of PoE and think it's got great ideas, there's too much that frustrates me in the game. Gearing in PoE is a chore as mentioned in several posts above. You have to find the right gear to use your skills and if you don't find it you then resort to picking through white items and having to upgrade them through currency orbs. Get a white, make it rare, reroll the socket colors, link them together to make it uber. It's a great idea on paper, but it's just so much work I go crosseyed looking at gear and I'm not even high level.
What is awesome and something that might keep some players in is that skills are so diverse and can be modified like crazy. You can make essentially the character YOU want to play. Want to shoot 5 fireballs and have them split off into two more when it hits an enemey? you can do that. Customization is by far PoE's strong point.
I kind of feel bad, I feel like I've been bashing PoE. it's not like I hate the game. I just don't think I get as much enjoyment out of it as I was expecting. It's like I love the IDEA of PoE, but his drinking keeps pushing me away.. but I know he loves me so I keep comming back as he whispers "it'll be better this time I promise"...

You're driving in the direction I had hoped to hear. And that is, no game is perfect. Far from it. In actuality, ALL games have serious issues that turn-off many players. Some people don't think these issues are enough to stop them from playing. Some players will feel the same issues are too much, causing them to quit.
I think people should keep this in mind when judging D3. What may be a fatal flaw to one player, will not bother another player. Some players love X while others hate it.
I loved Diablo 2. IMO it's the best experience I've ever had gaming. A special place in my heart, that game has won.
However, looking back, heck, even while playing it, I can name off a list of things I absolutely HATED about it. HATED. GOD FUGGIN DAMMIT THESE DUPES THE FUCK ...etc..etc...I need not volley off my list of complaints, you get the idea.
I'm getting to a point where I think people just like to complain these days more than ever, perhaps a symptom of the instant information age via internet. This includes me BTW...<<<<cynical asshat
For every game that you read hundreds of thousands of people love it....you'll read hundreds of thousands of people that frickin hate it. Is this a communication issue? As in...too much communication?
Did we not realize fully how many people hated D2 because the internet wasn't the creature it is today?
Disliking a genre of games is fine, people are different and it's understandable that certain games just don't fit them. But what gets my blood boiling is when people get all hypocritical and start arguing about two games within the same genre that share 99% of the goal it want's to fulfil. Naturally only one can be the better of the two, but to establish which is which, feelings need to put aside.
What is "better"? We can probably easily agree that Battlefield 3 is a better FPS than Duke Nukem Forever, since every single aspect of one is better than the other (specially on technical aspects); but that's it!
There's no such thing as "better" in this particular D3 vs PoE comparison, it's pretty obvious what is the focus of each game and what each developer wanted to achieve. And as I've said before, for people who wanted very traditional RPG elements and an (imho artificial) end-game in the form of maps and forcing character rerolls (no respec), obviously PoE is going to be "better".
Blizzard didn't want a "competitive" single player game. The removal of ladders and refusal to add something like races (which has been suggested waaaay before PoE even started being developed) is absolute proof of this. It is probably the one thing that makes these "progamer" wannabes most pissed off, that they can't prove themselves and show how big their epeen is (then again, if they were really so good, as I've said, they would move to actual competitive games instead of playing WoW or D3).
Regardless of whether someone likes or not the design decisions on Diablo 3 (on all fronts: the AH/RMAH, stats, skills) that doesn't change what they are. CONSCIENT decisions by a group of very reasonable people that took into account both sides of the equation, and CHOSE one. The only difference between them and the haters is that the haters (in general) can't even organize their thoughts and criticism into basic english.
After we all reach the same page we can start to establish what needs to be done for the game we prefer to reach up to its full potential.
You will never "reach the same page". Not if for instance you want a Ladder on D3 (just as an example) and the other person doesn't even see the Diablo games as a competitive single player games. It's simply not going to happen.
Somebody explain something to me:

Features people need to be aware of if they want D3 to be the best of its genre
1) End game mapping system - Creates different maps to farm end game gear so it prevents you from running the story mode acts again and again. Why is this great? It helps making alts not so boring as yes youve done the story previously but you have mindlessly grinded those maps over and over. And it gives you a fresh feeling while farming end game. How can blizzard implement this? I would say add maps dropping randomly and perhaps higher drop rate the higher the mp level and some sortt of map creator to forge a new zone. Something of that variation, i just love the idea and im sure blizzard can think of something better implementation wise.
2) New Gear and skills almost every week - Pretty self explanatory. I think asking for new skills in d3 every week will be too much, but have new gear added every patch isnt imo. I still dont get why they havnt added new gear to revive dead economy. Perhaps new gear that requires paragon level to use etc etc.
3) Races - RACE RACE RACE. They are so mUch fun! There are solo races/group races where you can compete. You get points for qualifying in top spots and get rewards based on points. They bring challenge to the game, you can have fun competing with friends officially. If you think youre amazing then you can even compete with highly active players. There are 3 hour races, 1 hour races, 1 week races and so on.
Three things and d3 can easily bring back most PoE players back imo. PoE will still have more build diversities class wise but with these 3 changes im sure they can bring back majority and revive D3. Like as much as i like poe better than D3 now, d3 animation and gameplay is much better.
Enough rambling, this post is just to bring more awareness and hopefully more people can bring this up so blizzard might do something.
I'm ok-ish with this. The idea has potential, but so long as maps don't become the mandatory way to farm always (as they are on PoE).
I'd much rather see them focus their efforts on giving us new types of "Uber" quests, or a better crafting system. And better skill/rune balancing, the itemization patch, a proper PvP mode.
2) New Gear and skills almost every week - Pretty self explanatory.
Dear lord, no. New gear? As in uniques, like PoE? Which they're doing just because those people gave them 1k dollars? Or to add new "crazy" items just for the sake of it (adding artificial complexity)? Please, no. Improving the current Legendaries (which they are doing iirc) and item system is enough.
You mean the races where you just move past 50 mobs, get them all together and spam one AoE skill against them for about an hour? Such a remarkable demonstration of skill. Or the races where that guy who played the game for 3k+ hours just muscle memories his way to "victory" by using the "well known as being OP on the forums" strategy? And then reward only 0.000001% of the playerbase? So much FUN!
And the whole idea of turning a single player/coop experience into a competition - I'm pretty sure the consensus at Blizzard is that is a bad direction for the franchise. It's funny how they did everything to prevent that, and people still treated D3 as a competition (caring about who finished the game on Inferno first, who is the best HC player, who has the best gear, who knows more about the game).

It's ok for people to not be brought back from PoE. They're different games with different focuses, and both will be alive and well years from now.
Why the fuck can't we have a civil discussion about the state of the game without calling each other names?
Idk, maybe 'cos you started it ? Check your previous posts !
I haven't called anyone HERE a name.
Krip and his toady Alkaiser decided to essentially call anyone whom still plays D3, and I'm quoting verbatim, "WoW Fanboys" and "casuals".
I took aim at them. Not you. Not Maka. Not ...OK OK I called Maka a liberal but I was getting desperate. I couldn't find any way to defend myself supporting D3 anymore than to flail wildly at other members by attempting to paint them as far-left wing nutjobs that want to take my hard earned tax dollars and hand it out to welfare queens whom sit around, all day, watching their Maury Povich, drinking boxed wine and popping handfuls of vicodin.
This whole Margret Thatcher thing is a conspiracy. She's not dead. The left wing conspiracy to rid the UK of this troublesome dementia stricken old lady has been cleverly executed, but I'm on to you people. I know what you're doing. You're all jealous, that's what you are, jealous. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING., I found her too beautiful, in fact. So beautiful I swear, I would suck her fart out of her car seat on a hot August day. I would eat an entire can of creamed corn out of her ass with a wooden spoon. I would eat an entire mile of her shit just to get a taste of her butthole. I'm in love, and love is precious god dammit. I'm coming for you, baby. Daddy's on his way oh sexy iron lady. And don't think I'm done with you....MR RAWRPOWER. With your clever little username.
You're likely the one whom cut my phone line, aren't you? I needed medical assistance the other day and I couldn't call for help because my land-line had been severed. I don't own a cellphone because of those outrageous $60 a month bills that were driving me right into the poor house.
I fell down my stairs, the leading cause of falls in the household. I was running down the stairs with a remote control in my hand and after the violent tumble I took, the remote had lodged itself deep within my rectum. Now.....NOW...everytime I sneeze, cough or move suddenly my damn DVR pauses. I'm sitting here trying to relax, right, watching American Idol and right in the middle of a song....PAUSED. I guess I farted or something but you get my point. My life is hard...HARD I tell ya. You couldn't last ten minutes in my shoes. Shoes that I made out of wood because I'm so damn poor from all those cellphone bills bills bills BILLS BILLS BILLS I hate bills.
Who sends those anyway? I mean, they want their money but I ain't got none and I'm pretty sure when people see my unkempt appearance and tattered clothing, they know I'm poor. But they give me credit. Why would they give a guy with gravy stains on his shirt and a prominent meth-mouth any kind of loan? I mean, I was honest with my lender when I told him I'm going to invest in a volcano insurance company, and I explained my business model to him clearly. The midwest United States is due for a catastrophic volcano and nobody is prepared. This region of the US is rife with panic over the impending eruption but nobody is stepping up to the plate to provide these people some comfort in the form of insurance.
^^posted to make a damn point that, no matter how hard myself and others have tried to keep this thread on point, a select few keep popping in here with completely irrelevant and oft times insulting posts.
You sound like a major hater honestly, if you ever read PoE chat these are all highly recommended by ex d3 players.
You really dont want new items in the game? Thats strange because the games almost 1 year old and i have no idea what youre still trying to farm.
You agree with mapping
Yes Race in path might be an aoe fest, but the competitiveness is fun..Youre talking as if flavored specs and aoe grinding isnt in d3 already. This whole game revolves around aoe grinding too. Also if you dont enjoy them dont underestimate the others. Many others greatly enjoy these and im sure it would be even more popular in d3.
And the whole idea of turning a single player/coop experience into a competition - I'm pretty sure the consensus at Blizzard is that is a bad direction for the franchise. What is D3 about then ? Meaningless no reward grind ? GAH/RMAH ? Quitting the game after lvl 30 ? Reaching Paragon 100 ?
Just a nice enjoyable console game that you play once a week 'cos you have a job, wife and kids ?
D3 should have goals ! And if Blizzard haven't gave them to players, the players made their own with "diabloprogress" and World First this and that and Ubers fast kills and "I'm the best at X" ... and expectations of greater future with PvP and ladders and stuff.
Play to have fun. If you don't have fun, don't play.
You sound like a major hater honestly, if you ever read PoE chat these are all highly recommended by ex d3 players.
By whom? Ex-D3 players? And they don't play D3 anymore because it didn't have the features they personally wanted? And they want to turn D3 solely into what they want? Because they can't have fun unless they're competing in some way? Because they can't have fun unless the developer actually tells them "look, try to beat this content/quest"?
You couldn't be more wrong - I have never, ever, made a single post hating on whoever choses to play PoE or hating on that game. At most I've said the combat and old-school systems don't suit my current gaming style. Find me a single post where I call anyone a "PoE fanboy" or say anything like "how bad that shitty low-res diablo clone" is. Now I can point you to hundreds (thousands if you count deleted posts or the official forums) of ignorant and hateful comments from the other side of the fence.
Because unlike an actual hater, I respect different preferences, and I understand that people like different things.
You really dont want new items in the game? Thats strange because the games almost 1 year old and i have no idea what youre still trying to farm.
Another symptom of the WoWification of Diablo (or at least of the alleged "D2 fans"). "yo dawg we need new content every couple months and new items/areas to farm and new raids every year".

Also if you dont enjoy them dont underestimate the others. Many others greatly enjoy these and im sure it would be even more popular in d3.
It's fun for some players. Note the "some" in there. It's a synonim for "almost nobody". I wouldn't be surprised if not even 10% of the playerbase even inPoE (which has a heavy focus on that) actually plays races.
Play to have fun. If you don't have fun, don't play.
I heard that concept is quite hard to grasp by gamers nowadays. Most of them are too desperate to have some sort of epeen contest in every game they play to enjoy such a primal feeling.
I wonder if they use all this competitiveness to beat something like 1999 Mode on Bioshock. It's quite a rewarding and challenging adventure. Oh wait, there's no epeen on single player games, so people don't "waste their times" or care.
I agree, yet disagree. I think at this point in time if they introduced a map like system that was the only place to farm it would be okay. Anything other than just farming / playing through Acts 1-4, over and over and over again. It is the single thing keeping me from coming back and playing the game. Sure there have been new things added in, but I am still going to be stuck farming the same scenery and zones for the past year. If I've leveled up / beat the game (killed Diablo on Inferno) with the five different classes I've already seen each zone upwards of 20 times and that isn't even taking into account time spent farming gear / uber keys.
At least the map system in PoE are all layouts of areas of you've never played in before. They have random mob types in there, which in it of itself provides very interesting complexities. Now throw in random buffs to mobs or ailments to your character and it becomes a fun little test of can my character do this for quite some time to come.
While I know I don't speak for everyone, I do feel I am not the only one that feels the fatigue of the core drops (gear, keys, demonic essences) all mostly coming from zones that I've already spent hours leveling up in and hours grinding in already.
I agree, I think new uniques/skills works fine in PoE whereas it won't work so well about PoE. Part of the game in PoE is to reroll your character and what better way to keep people interested in that than by adding in new uniques/skills frequently?
You mean the races where you just move past 50 mobs, ...
I personally would be fine with races so long as they didn't offer anything you already get through a normal play through and they didn't start to balance the game around races. PoE has some very interesting races ideas such as Lethal, Turbo, Ancestral, Multi-Projectile, etc. Problem is they are time limited races so it turns into exactly the above. Run to ledge (with some of the easiest mobs in Act 1) spam AoE spells to level up. I really think they need to extend the length of the races to be more about actual progression in the game rather than level progression. First person of each class to beat Piety on Merciless is the winner rather than the currency implementation of the highest level of each class is the winner (with some minor prizes for doing the sides quests along the way) which leads to very boring play it safe type races that happened in season 1.
So many d3 fanboys criticize PoE on screenshots and didnt even try the game. Every single PoE player played d3 though, and can objectively criticize on d3.

I've played both. PoE got boring quick. Made it to act 3 cruel, then went back to grinding d3. It's all a matter of opinion. In my opinion PoE is a ripoff with no fresh ideas. I've played all these games before, why would i play them again?
Any game will get boring if you grind the shit out of it. Everything is good in moderation, including moderation.
Maybe alkaizer and your buddy didnt realize that PoE is in beta still and doesnt even have act 4 yet, plus full of bugs and constantly crashes.
With the game being in Beta they have the eternal argument "it's still Beta, it CAN be broken and it's NOT final". This way the developers can wave their development wands around for years (it's been 2 now) and no one can say a word back as they can take the changes back at any time. Server crashes? Still Beta. Full of bugs? Still Beta. No Act 4? Still Beta. Kripparian is exploiting the game in horrific ways? Still Beta.
Shop is open though. Studio needs to survive.
Difference between Beta and Live? None. You are playing live. It's just eternal development. Therefore excuses can be made forever.
Some like this type of development, some don't. It can be used as an argument on both sides though.

No fresh ideas in PoE ? You can not say this if you played the game for real. Sincerely.
Well, guess what, whenever I see these "uber players" like Kripp and co. they play the same stupid boring builds that everyone and their dog is using,
You are talking about the type of guys that INVENT the builds that everyone uses, complaining about how they are using the same builds as everyone else.
Plus, the experimental playground called Path of Exile has no balancing whatsoever, the major reason why all the kidz praise it.
This is something the D3 team does not understand. The game does not have to be balanced. The only reason to try and balance it at all is for PvP, which actually matters so little that it's not worth it to balance around PvP in those games. Add to that, the fact that neither game is made to be an e-sport, and the whole idea of balancing anything goes out the window.
The skills, abilities, and specs should all work, and be viable in some way throughout the entire game. Sure, some builds will be outliers, but that's just part of it. PoE accomplishes this well. D3 fails at it miserably.

Derp.
I'm sorry, the guy who wants as many people as possible to view his stream is complaining that people copy him?
I must have missed the logic train here. If you don't want people to copy you then why would you take every opportunity to remind people that you're the most best player in the world? Seriously, you can't do that and not expect people to try to emulate you, it's completely irrational.

I'm sorry what? All specs "work" in PoE? No offense, but what Kool-Aid have you been drinking? PoE doesn't accomplish this at all. Almost every build is centered around either CI with massive amounts of ES or massive amounts of HPs. Then use as many auras as you can possibly support.
PoE's biggest failure is the fact that, given such a diverse amount of gems and an AMAZING skill tree... diversity is TERRIBLE... too much of the AWESOME goes unused. It's no different from too many of the D3 skills going unused except it's far worse in scope. D3s lack of diversity comes from efficiency. PoEs lack of diversity comes from the fact that 95%+ of builds fail by Act 3 Cruel (ie: there is a major discrepancy between player power and monster power unless you're using certain builds). How you can tout that as a great system is beyond me.

I'd much rather see them focus their efforts on giving us new types of "Uber" quests, or a better crafting system. And better skill/rune balancing, the itemization patch, a proper PvP mode.

Play to have fun. If you don't have fun, don't play.

Another symptom of the WoWification of Diablo (or at least of the alleged "D2 fans"). "yo dawg we need new content every couple months and new items/areas to farm and new raids every year".
It's fun for some players. Note the "some" in there. It's a synonim for "almost nobody". I wouldn't be surprised if not even 10% of the playerbase even in PoE (which has a heavy focus on that) actually plays races.
I wonder if they use all this competitiveness to beat something like 1999 Mode on Bioshock. It's quite a rewarding and challenging adventure. Oh wait, there's no epeen on single player games, so people don't "waste their times" or care.
I agree, I think new uniques/skills works fine in PoE whereas it won't work so well about PoE. Part of the game in PoE is to reroll your character and what better way to keep people interested in that than by adding in new uniques/skills frequently?
Maybe alkaizer and your buddy didnt realize that PoE is in beta still and doesnt even have act 4 yet, plus full of bugs and constantly crashes.
Ha. Bagstone.
No fresh ideas in PoE ? You can not say this if you played the game for real. Sincerely.
You are talking about the type of guys that INVENT the builds that everyone uses, complaining about how they are using the same builds as everyone else.
Derp.
