So i have been gone for a really long time and was attempting to catch up on what is new and what to keep in mind when playing but am still lost. Is there a quck reference post that i missed or just a quck summary of what i should look for or the new farming path. Any help would be great in getting back into the game.
The last time i played was when Butcher runs were still in and paragon levels were about to be released if that tells you anything.
If the game bored you before (therefore a reason to quit) I would stay away for... a long time, maybe a couple of years, until Blizz decides to really improve the game instead of these cosmetics patches.

Untrue, if OP quit before they implemented paragon levels, that means he stopped playing before patch 1.04, which means he never even experienced the new legendaries/sets, drop rates, skill changes, ubers, etc.
He should at least give it a shot, and if it's still not for him, he can stop and come back again later.
All affixes now roll at the monster-level. IE, in Monster-Power 1+ in Inferno, all items that drop can roll iLvL 63 affixes, even if the item is level 58, for example
Increased Attack Speed nerf (reduced IAS on all items, including existing ones)
Minimum gold increment to sell for real money is now 1 million (25 cents US)
Probably a lot more I'm forgetting.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
If you are just coming back, I would not read the fourms. This game is much more fun not hearing all the complaints. The fourms ruined this game for me. I had so much more fun when I thought I was doing ok. Then I started reading the fourms and found all the issues that I did not know even existed and found I was not doing so well.
Ignorance is bliss. That is a very true statement in this game. Stay away from the AH, do not even look. All you will see is things you can never afford, unless you buy gold. Seeing things that cost 600 million so not fun. Hell even 100milion is next to impossible. You will hear people saying 100 million is nothing. You only get max about 2400 gold per kill, and that is max, there is no way to make 100 million just killing things. When I say max about 2400 gold, I am paragon 48, higher levels may see higher gold. That means you have to sell stuff in the AH for high levels of gold. Not that many people still play so selling 100 million gold stuff is pretty much a thing of the past unless you get a godly thing, which never drops.
Now my wizard turns 340k dps buffed, so the only upgrades for me is the 300 million and above items. But, I do enjoy the new gamble system so I pretty much farm mats to gamble with these days.
Sim City be out in a few days, a break from Diablo will be good for me. I have played since the very first Diablo, so I love this game and will continue to play, I just wish I had never came to the fourms. My browser is down for some reason and I had nothing else to do, so I am here on the fourms. Big mistake for me.

Or you can read the forums, laugh at the people complaining and moaning about things that really aren't worth moaning about, go play the game and enjoy it your way, visit the AH if that's your thing, see a wildly expensive piece of gear that you wish you could use but can't afford, use that as motivation or inspiration to then play more and perhaps get that lucky drop for yourself.
Thank you all for your input, there are views from all sides. Ill post again in the monk forums to find out more about how im doing in comparison to what is the new standerd.
Ill also have to look into this "monster +1 thing" and the gambling thing.

At least one Monk specific change is that most of his spirit spenders now do a crap load more damage, like Seven sided strike now does base 1777% damage. I think Exploding Palm does 800ish. Basically, they didn't like that a lot of people just spammed MoC for the damage bonus, so they tried to make other spirit spenders better.
Also, not said is that Inferno received a number of general nerfs, so it's possible if you left cause of the brick wall, it's at least a little better now (not sure when you left). Additionally, they modified it so ilvl 63 items can drop in act 1 inferno (and Act 4 Hell dropped better gear too). But that's kinda an old change, so maybe you knew that.
Also, you may have heard, as it's recent, but they did just allow limited PvP. they call it "brawling" for reasons that I don't really care about (nor do I care that they aren't using the term Duel anymore). Don't know much about it except it won't kill your HC character, and you don't loss durability.

There have been too many changes for me to go into a lot of detail here, but some stuff you should look into:

You made my day.
