STILL UPDATING AS RUNS BEING COMPLETED (01/02/2013)
I'm currently doing 10 test runs to see analyze how efficient this is for my character, using archon wizard.
Monster Power: 1
Bonus experience:
- Hellfire ring: +35%
- Leorics signet: +28%
- Enchantress with hellfire ring: +7%
- Radiant Star Ruby in helm: +31% Total exp from items: +101%
Skill spec:
- Archon with Teleport rune
- Storm Armor with Scramble rune
- Familiar with Vigoron Rune
- Magic Weapon with Blood Magic rune
- Chain Lightning with Forked Lightning rune
- Diamond Skin with Crystal Shell rune
- Galvanizing Ward
- Glass Cannon
- Evocation
Route:
- Arreat Crater 2 backwards using automated checkpoint at Tower of the Cursed 1
- Rakkis Crossing backwards
- Keep Depths 2
Character specs:
- DPS: 320k (using signet and hellfire + enchatress IAS aura)
- Paragon 89/90 (will level to 90 during testing)
Method:
- Avoid all backtracking unless a very short distance
- Screen cap taken with mouse over exp bar standing outside Arreat Crater 2.
- Second screen cap taken after run is complete.
- Experience gained is tabulated, time of run tabulated, exp/hour extrapolated
- Run time includes leaving the game and restarting a new one (reappearing in Tower of the Cursed 1), as that is part of a full run cycle
If you are going to test this run and make comparisions, you MUST:
-Don't touch shrines. They aren't the same run and you can't use it as a comparison.
-Don't pick up ANY items. Pickup time affects exp/hr and we only care about exp/hr (ok, pick up legendaries, but be quick about it!)
-You have to do multiple types of runs to have comparisons. If you make 60/hr doing this, don't cry foul because maybe you were only making 40/hr before on Alk's
-Measure your time from start of game to start of game. Reload time is important! Also, use a stopwatch, seconds matter when extrapolating a small number into a larger one.
-And last but not least, Measure your runs in multiple instances over time. That will average mob density better than calculating exp/hr for each run and averaging them all. Do runs for a full hour to get a more realistic sense of exp/hr.

You're right. I'm gonna restart using these pointers.
Are there spoiler buttons in this forum??
Since I'm restarting I'm going to buy a signet for my follower too.

I'm sure there are a lot of inconsistencies between players when comparing xp/hr, so great tips JKlimek!
I decided to do 60 minutes exactly, which ended up being 10 runs.
61,899,506 xp in 60 minutes = ~62m xp/hr
4 legendaries
0 legendaries worth gold
I noticed that many games I would never get 5 stacks. The arreat level 2 and keeps level 2 are just so random. Because of this reason, I'm going to try adding core of arreat to the start of this run and do another 60 minutes. We will see how that changes things.
Bonus experience:
- Hellfire ring: +35%
- Leorics signet: +28%
- Enchantress with hellfire ring: +7%
- Enchantress with signet: +5%
- Radiant Star Ruby in helm: +31% Total exp from items: +106%
When comparing routes, one should consider the relative worth of the NV 5 stack exp bonus, which goes down as you get more items with an exp bonus. For people without all those items, getting 5 stacks first may still be better than only doing the high density zones.
I did a couple runs (11) last night too and found the same issue with NV stacks coming out of Arreat Crater 2.
Couple hints for all and some for Archons:
-When you go into Arreat, the exit is almost always left. However, if you go right and explore and end up in a long dead end, you can TP to town and WP back to the area and work your way back to the point where you left off.
-In Raxxis, always look downstairs just to the north of where you WP in. Sometimes there is a group of enemies right below or on the stairs and I did encounter elites there twice.
-In Raxxis, don't drop archon to rebuff until you go up the "U" shape stairs. The density before isn't enough to build up archon, but after is great.
-In Raxxis, there is a door that leads to the "Bridge Stores" (I think). If the door stays shut, there is only a vendor down there. If the door opens itself, there is an elite there.
-Sometimes there is an event towards the end of Raxxis where a guard asks you to help him defend an attack... don't do it, it's a waste of time.
-Depths 2 always has a square in it and the exit is almost always on the left. Try to do the area in a circle to hit most of it.
(FYI, my 11 runs were done in two sets and I ended up with 58-62M/hr. I haven't evaluated any other runs yet, but plan to in the future.)
I ENJOY getting awesome items all the time. You know how I got to that point? I power leveled, running as efficiently as possible to the point where I got great equipment and my plevel high enough to the point where I see legendaries on a regular basis.
What a stupid post to make on a thread about exp efficiency.

Yep, as Baron pointed out, I'm reading these ridiculous posts from people claiming that the Alkashitzier route (whatever the fuck) is the only way to para level. Now we're apparently whittling it down to new routes that save 1 minute and 31 seconds per 8 hours or whatever the hell is going on in this thread.
It's good that people figure this shit for posterity sake but what's occurring is that far too many folks are buying into this idea that because X route is Y% more efficient, than all other areas/acts/routes are suddenly obsolete.
It's a bad practice to play that way for many folks because this sort of mindless route running is akin to manually controlling a bot....it causes people to burn out and quit.

It's not like players are forced to run these effecient routes... this is an option, that you can either use to powerlevel your characters at the quickest speed, or you can stick to your own thing for fun.. your acting like this is a post telling players to "Powerlevel or quit!"...
Some players, such as myself and many others here, like to maximize their efficiency.. if not to get an edge, then to save ourselves some time.

I don't think you understand.
I'm addressing the sentiment being conveyed by many that there is only 1 act, only 1 specific route to run, period. This idea is being stated OVER AND OVER by many people. It simply isn't true.
Being that some people are dangerously stupid, they only need read something on a web forum to believe it. Thusly, many people are buying this shit that if you don't run the Alkaseltzer route (whatever the fuck that no-life's name is) than you aren't going to get anywhere, you aren't going to level, you aren't getting loot.
It's bullshit.
Yeah, if you play like you're some impoverished Chinese item farmer, you will be able to level your char to para 100 in 500 hours (whatever) instead of 750 hours. But by no motherfucking means whatsoever does that suggest you're wasting your time by running act 1, for example.
If that's your thing, go for it brother. I have no issue with that. What I have issue with is reading so many comments that state a specific route in act 3 is the ONLY place even worth bothering with.
I hope you understand what I mean. Don't think I'm trying to insult you or others that maximize efficiency.
Back on topic, I figured out that there is three basic layouts for the Arreat Crater Level 2, once you figure those out you will know where elites are most likely to spawn and where the exit is. I've pretty gotten it down where I can get 4-5 stacks every game just in the crater without too much back-running. I've improved my xp/hr by about 3m, so now I'm at 65m xp/hr.

Raoha Route
Run 1: 8,877,006 7 minutes = ~76m xp/hr
Run 2: 5,904,096 5 minutes = ~71m xp/hr
Alkaizer Route
Run 1: 9,100,375 8 minutes = ~68m xp/hr
Run 2: 9,262,094 9 minutes = ~62m xp/hr
About 15% more xp per hour compared to alkaizer, in my own testing. I will continue to test and see what the averages are.
What is your XP/hour doing Alkaizer? If you don't have that, your data won't mean much
Hey bro! awesome!
You'll have to compare it with a different route, see how effective this one is!

I'll do that as well, have the day off!
Note that the exp won't be as good because DH has insane mobility.

DH has better mobility, but lacks the kind of AOE/resources I can sustain with my WD.

Hint: Play the game for fun instead of maximizing efficiency and you may enjoy it more. You may level slower than some others but....who cares, right?
