You are unable to acquire legendary items and sets in inferno which help with levelling other chars. It is basically assumed that you will just buy your items from the auction house when levelling. This has resulted in their being very few good low level sets and unique's and nobody is farming for them because who wants to go farm in normal,nm,hell. To hardly ever find legendaries anyway crap exp etc..
The item system in Diablo 2 was balanced far better in terms of difficulties and item availability. 3 difficulties, 3 tiers of items.
Normal----Nightmare---Hell *difficulties
Normal---exceptional---elite *Items
As your progressed through the difficulties the kinds of items(NRML, EXCEP, ELITE) which monsters could drop increased.
however the bottom tiers of items were available in any difficulty. So when you did runs in Hell you picked up plenty of normal level uniques and sets, some Exceptional Uniques+sets, and a Few elite uniques+sets the elite uniques were much less common. Probably on a similar level to legendaries in inferno now. But on the whole their stats were much more static.--so if you got an elite unique it was almost always good.
This is a problem because there no really tangible connection between MF and set+legendary drops theoretically yes but in evidence only with a very large sample Size. In diablo 2 seeing a drop with green, gold, blue, and yellow was Exciting even if their was nothing useful there. it provided tangible evidence that your magic find was functioning and additionally allowed you to gear your other characters with cool low and mid level uniques and sets which made you feel like a god while levelling diablo 3 misses the boat on this point massively and this only serves to further enhance the frustrations with item finding in inferno.
Given how many oceans of tears have been shed over level 51 items dropping in Inferno (and the subsequent change in 1.0.5 to only level 58+), I hardly think Blizzard are going to volunteer to bend over and take the thrashing that they would get if they made even lower level items start dropping. Even if they were good low-level legendaries.

Yeah i just think its a good example of the system of itemisation not being particularly well thought through. There's no coherency when you compare it with D2-which was really simple. I mean sure by the end of playing D2 i had probably seen 100's of unique breast plates that i never picked up-Because Venom Ward was awful. But it still seems to be something which Diablo 3 gets wrong. If the drop rates of lowlevel legendaries and sets were very high(50% of boss runs) in inferno then i do not think people would complain about that. OFC people would then buy these super common legendaries of the auction house for super cheap and progression would be too easy---so its another example of where the AH has made balancing itemisation difficult.
But yeah as its stands, what reason do i have to acquire low level sets etc? and when would i ever do it? except by using the auction house to buy it off someone who just randomly got lucky when levelling..
Whether I'm farming gold, paragon exp, or in the next patch, actual items I can use, I'm happy. Can't wait for 1.05. I'm going to start a No AH/trade character.
Same problem as always, Diablo 3 has less items/sets than d2. Probably all of these problems will be solved whit the expansion. Tho if it brings new classes
Do you really want to see a legendary in Inferno and pick it up to find out that it's level 40? I wouldn't find that valuable at all since it's easy to help out your alts as it is.
