For the record I get bored of D2 many times and quit for extended periods of time just to play and do it all over again. It is what it as and every patch so far has improved the game just like what happened in D2.
Think about it in real-world terms: You want a Lamborghini (you know you do). Why do you want it? Primarily because not everyone has one - this makes it a status symbol. People who want better loot don't seem to understand that better loot for them means better loot for everyone else, and that their standing won't improve if gear does. The poster who claimed that everyone who disagrees with the OP is stupid is a perfect example of how childish this mindset is.
Childish is wanting a car because if makes you feel 'cool' (improve your status/standing). Also, I think that people who really like cars would disagree with you. One likes a particular car because it is THAT car, and not because it is rare (it might not even be). People who like the Jaguar E-Type wouldn't stop liking it if more people had it; they like it because of how it looks, how it sounds, how it drives, etc.
I want better loot because better loot is more fun to play with; I don't give a rat's ass if the guy next to me also has that good loot. You're basically worried about loss of e-peen if more people get good loot, because you won't be 'special' any more.
Your naivete about the human mindset is charming =)
I have no epeen to speak of, I'm broke. I'm waiting on a few things to sell so I can afford a gem upgrade.
I just understand the basics of economics and inflation. That's all. I'm not even saying I'm some kind of expert with a degree, just that I understand the basics. That's more than most posters in this thread can say.
Thinking that better loot will improve their gold acquisition is as silly as thinking that we can fix our economic crisis by printing more money. Sometimes I wonder what the average age is here.
This discussion is pointless. Game is unrewarding and at some point people get tired of not dropping shit.
That I agree with. We can argue specifics all day, but many people don't find it fun to run the same exact content over and over and over again in hopes that someday they will find something worth a lot of gold... so they can sell it and buy themselves another piece of gear.
The reasoning behind it is irrelevant, it doesn't change anything. Hopefully players8 gets us to a better place.
This discussion is pointless. Game is unrewarding and at some point people get tired of not dropping shit.
Of course there's no discussion to be had. Every single thread you've posted on that has anything to do with loot has come down to you calling anyone who doesn't immediately agree with you an "idiot." The fact that you've had moderation action on two posts you've made in this very thread should tell you something - it's not about your opinion, it's about the fact that these are DISCUSSION forums and that your OPINION is not the be-all and end-all of discussion.
I'm sorry that you find the game to be bad. You are just one of millions of people and coming to these forums with the "I'm right no matter what" attitude is fucking atrocious and we're better off without people like you.
However, random loot is random. And unless you're going to come at us with actual numbers - how many hours you've spent, how many elite kills you have in that time, a breakdown of iLevel, rarity (blue, yellow, orange, green), and possibly even stream so that we can see that you "never" get anything "good" then it's all sounding like a contrived story.
Need I remind you of that guy who was streaming every day about how he never got loot? After a few days people started calling him on the fact that he was, in fact, vendoring saleable items. The problem with statements like "never get good loot" is that it hinges on the persons intelligence to make that determination. If your attitude is anything close to reflective of your intelligence then I can say for sure that we know why you're "never" getting anything "good" and it has more to do with operator error than a broken system.
TL;DR
The thread is only pointless if you've already cashed out. In that case you're not here for the discussion, you're here to vent. While venting isn't entirely bad, it does hinder discussion quite a bit, as evidenced in this very thread.
All of them moved to guild wars 2 after having played 600+ hours of the game.
Isn't GW2 an MMO? That's like comparing Mortal Kombat to Call Of Duty. Why are so many people leaving D3 to play GW2? Shouldn't it be WoW players doign that? I don't get it.
I understand where the OP is coming from but look at it with proper context, the Diablo context, NOT the WoW context.
You can spend lets say 10-12 hours of gaming until youre likely to find a decent items of any factor to any character. what I mean is that you could play 5 different classes of varying levels for that 10 hours and you may find 1 items thats awesome on 1 of them.
This is exactly how it was in Diablo 2, it was just hidden under different coloured items. In D2 you farmed bosses, now in this farm you would constantly get set items and uniques however it was probable that all those items were either items you already had, were lower level or just crap. every 10-12 hours you might find a super good items unique or set, or even a charm or Rune but it was still the same time investment.
The problem here is even though there is more basline loot to find or choose from the top quality items are a very small number, but of the same quality so you don't get that instant reward you got from Diablo 2. You are constantly getting rares but the rares you're looking for are very limited.
All in all, I think we are still getting the same return for investment me got form Diablo 2, its just not hidden as well as it was in Diablo 2.
I agree a little... Mostly because Ihave killed 109,610 total monsters, and 5992 of those were elites, and I only found ONE Legendary, it was a Stormshield I was able to sell for 80 dollars on RMAH. Yeah, great, awesome profit. But it only took 150+ hours of game-play.
Yeah, I get it, my MF is only 140, but for a DH that's already too much because I have horrible defensive abilities, but a whopping 100k DPS :D.
So just putting it out there, there ARE people who play and play and play, have three level 60's (almost 5) and have nothing to show for all the play except what he's able to buy.

Not only the sheer randomness of affixes are bad enough but the limited diversity of useful ones are just as so. For example what DPS builds doesn't stack crit chance and damage as high as they can because that is the only way to massively boost DPS?
I think a good solution could come from a major improvement to the BS, let say, personalize an item, adding slots/affixes/etc. It would be nice. Why?, cuz it makes sense, in one hand you have an extremly customizable skill system, in the other hand, you have an EXTREME randomness in item affixes that makes almost imposible to optimize your gear/skills/gameplay without using the AH.
One thing I'd very much like to see is the following functionality added to the JC:
If an item has rolled sockets, but not rolled max sockets, allow the player to add the "missing" sockets for a fee, something like 100k per socket.
If an item has not rolled sockets but has at least one "empty" affix (say it only has 5 affixes instead of 6 and none of those are "socketed") then you can add the socketed affix for a price of around 250k and then add sockets at the same 100k per cost.
This would be a very nice goldsink which would allow people to take some of the "marginal" gear and upgrade it in a way that sorta makes sense. I mean, we all hate when we get a chest with only 1/2 sockets right? Great way to fix it and to help curb inflation. Although, I'm sure it's not perfect.
They could tighten stat ranges and increase legendary drops and we'd all have perfect sets of items within a week. And then from there where do we go? We'd all be bored because it now takes 500 hours to find a Natalya's with 12 more DEX than what we currently have. This is such a simple concept to grasp: The better loot you have, the harder it is to find better loot, and the longer and more grueling the grind becomes.
And with no other end game options available and no reason to re-roll, as it is right now, all Blizzard can do is hope people are okay with grinding for hours to get a marginal upgrade. Of course, people are quitting because they don't want to do this, yet at the same time, they'd quit if they were just handed all the loot they wanted, because there's not much else to do when your gear is godly. A few will PvP, but that's not everyone, obviously.
My biggest thing i dislike about the loot is what is required for high dps output. You need a well rolled weapon, crit, crit damage and attack speed. The worst part is all classes need this to attain the highest dps possible so it makes getting the loot expensive because everyone wants it and everyone can use it:-/.

Read: The only thing people are asking for is maybe 1 legendary per week (shitty or not), instead of 1 legendary per month!!!!!!! Is that too hard to grasp? Blizz could seriously double the legendary/set drop rates and it would not change the game a bit. In well over 100 hrs played since patch I have see NONE. Bad RNG luck or not, the point is that there are a lot of people that has happened to and they're all leaving the game. I bought GW2 two nights ago and Diablo 3 is over for me already. Diablo 2 lasted me 10+ years and Diablo 3 just a couple months.

I see a legendary every other day. Blizzard needs to nerf the drop rate of legendaries because too many are dropping. Most of the people on my friends list have the same issue. We're pretty much drowning in legendaries and this over-abundance of them needs to stop. I used to keep all my legendaries because I'm a hoarder but I've just got too many to do that anymore.
Diablo 2 lasted me 10+ years and Diablo 3 just a couple months.
I highly doubt you played D2 for 10 years. D2 launch was mediocre and it took years for some of the awesome features to show up. And then patches had years of space in between them. So unless you were completely fine with Uber runs and shitty pvp for years at a time, I think you're over-exaggerating your D2 experience.

Is interesting how almost all of the posts I'm seeing lately provides a better alternative than the actual game loot system.
The problem I see, is that most of the solutions to make the game more exiting, go against the AH. Right now, like many already said, the AH is mandatory to max a player's gear, cuz, you can selectively pick your gear from it, stat by stat, you just need money, or gold. This is destroying the idea of the game itself, I think Blizzard didnt think too much about it. I know there are ppl at there that likes to play the AH game, but.. for a lot of us, thats not fun, a lot of ppl want to see that dark-orange color in the floor, and be exited about it!, thats whats Diablo series is about!, not a cold, economy-based AH... come on.
well, the recent loot servers, i get at least 1 piece of legendary per run, I was thrilled when I saw it dropped, and it turns out to be a extreme terrible roll I was pissed
it doesn't matter if legendary drops more often or not, the rolls are still crap, and it takes so long to get one, even with loot server exploit
i dont get why do i pick up those crappy shit rolled legendaries, then other ppl are getting high resist rolled IK chest, this game is a joke, peace

Completely unfounded hyperbole generally loses arguments.

in d2 at least if there issnt a unique sacred plate dropping, it could be a unique lvl 42 barb helm that is super useful
in d3, anything not ilvl 62 or 63 is practically useless.. not to mention anything orange is super rare, let alone green.
