I think the ability to cancel auctions is hurting the market.
People seem to get impatient and repost items after an hour of not selling. I'd like to see the option show up after 4-5 hours after and item has been posted. I thInk it would take away the ability for people to abuse the new option. Anyone feel the same way?
In order for something to be abusive, it must be hurting other players. People cancelling their auctions has only one effect on others, which is people undercutting each other.
The thing is, the more people start undercutting each other, the faster the prices will actually settle on what's considered to be "fair". At that point then is that items will actually have a "demand vs supply" basis setting their prices.
I could be dead wrong, but right now I see cancelling auctions as a very positive thing. Note that I was extremely against it before (totally in favor of limited auctions that can't be cancelled), because I thought it would reward people who put some thought into their pricing.
I hardly see any problem. If someone puts up an item that people are hesitant to touch, it's probably overpriced. So rather than having to wait for 24 hours to change the price people can do that immediately. End result: buyers get better prices faster. How is that a bad thing?
Remember that until you bid on an item the seller owes you nothing.
As has already been pointed out, most cancels are going to be a lowering of prices, which benefits only one person: the buyer.
On the rare chance the price was raised, who cares? Are people upset they can't snipe an item for a super low bid when someone realizes they made a mistake before the auction ended? What's more abusive here?
If an item is on the market listed at a price you deem fair, put a bid on it or don't complain. They can't remove it once it's been bid on, so the power to prevent such an issue is squarely on the shoulders of the buyers.
