So I stopped playing for about 2 weeks and have been farming inferno the past 3 days with over 200%MF and 145%GF, but since I started back up I've noticed that I don't get anywhere near the amount of gem drops that I used to. When I do get a gem drop in inferno most of the time its square and not flawless square. I swear that flawless squares used to drop at least one every 20 min, most of the time more than that. Now I'm lucky to get 1 gem per hour and only got 4 flawless gems over the last 3 days with clearing act 1 twice. Does anyone know about a nerf to gem drops or are you noticing the same trend?
You're probably right, although there is absolutely no data to back this up. I also feel gems are dropping a lot less frequently as they used to.
Given the lack of "gem sinks", you would imagine Blizzard has to decrease its drop rate over time to maintain their market value. You would expect flawless squares to all eventually reach vendor price (price of better gems will depend solely on the crafting costs).
In my opinion the gem system is a complete failure in D3 compared to D2.
MF and GF have no affect on gem drop rates, I personally havn't noticed or heard about any nerf to gem drop rates. Doing Cemetary + warden + butcher runs, i've collected a good amount of them and while i don't clear everything, i can aoe one shot whites so i do it. Make sure you're not skipping over mobs of trash ect.

If this was in reference to me, my comment was about the nerf to destructibles no longer dropping items.

Nono, in the first post he says he is running with MF/GF, i didn't want him under the impression that it'd help him find more gems.
I know MF and GF don't affect gem drops, but I've had people try to argue that before so I tell them thats not the problem. I'm not skipping any trash mobs and explore the entire map and break all objects I see. Good point about the lowered drop rates for destructibles, that probably affects it a lot. Also the lack of gem sinks makes sense. Its just weird when something is dropping all the time and then weeks later its not dropping at all with no notice from blizz. I understand if they want to reduce the drop rate because of lack of gem sinks, but I like to hear about it officially. Thanks for the input, the destructibles drop rate being reduced is probably the answer.

I get gems a ton in my Act 1 farm... mostly from chests. Not that it matters.... flawless squares are like 100g.
