Diablo Mate is to help you solve questions like "Should I equip a helm with +102 vit or +72 all res?", or "Which is better for a ring, +15% ias or +25-34 dmg?"
It calculates your hero's DPS and EHP (Effective Health Points, a calculated life total that factors in damage reduction) based on level and equipment.
According to your specific build, it figures out the balance point among various attributes increment that contributes to the same amount of DPS or EHP. E.g., +100 vit = +53 all res = +643 dex = +4200 life = +23453 EHP. This will help you to better balance your build.
You can add items to equip and it will show the delta in both DPS and EHP if equipped.
