Star Wars has real geeky fans. They memorize every line from the movies, waited decades between installments, and love to dress in character, even when they get married.
Star Trek has one of the most annoying fan base, because they memorize every frickin stat, and then have nerdy arguments in Klingon about how fast Defiant class space ship travels vs the Zodiac class.
Now, I'm starting to worry about Diablo fans. Let's face it, everyone who goes to this website is a fan. Whether they're complaining or praising. And if I were to describe the typical post on Reddit, Diablofans, or on Battle.net forums...it would be, "I've played this game for 400 hours and it sucks. They keep breaking the game. Just when I thought it was already broken, they break it again."
TBH, I have a level 59 WD in Hell and have not started Inferno yet. I'm having fun. I guess it comes down to one question, is the game fun for you?
193 hours on my main char, 50 hours on my first sub and liek 9-10 hours on the others, still fun as hell... definitly worht the 114 bucks this costed me (CE edition here)
I've played just over 100 hours, I'm well into Inferno Act 2 and I'm loving it. I had to farm quite a bit before I could progress through Act 2 "smoothly" but the farming itself was no hassle at all to me, I enjoyed it.

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
I have a lot of fun with the game, and when and if I hit a wall in inferno, then I'll start another class, and level it up and so on until I don't have fun anymore, and then I'll just stop playing and chat here with oyu guys instead. I couldn't give any less importance to the problems the game has, every game is broken for that matter, but when a game stops being fun, then is not a game anymore, is a job
Game is everything I've expected it to be. Very great third installment to the series, I currently play HC, would never switch to SC. This is the only game I feel for my character and mourn its death when I die. HC is a rush and I test other people to try it too. Once you go HC youll never see SC the same way. I Just got to Hell lvl 52 wiz HC still going strong.
I think you'll find you've characterised two types of fan that the exist in both the ST and SW fancultures... but the ones that make me want to hoist the black flag and begin slitting throats are the "The Enterprise (NCC-1701D glayven) would totally beat a Star Destroyer" ones.
Anyway... hell yes I'm having fun. I fully intend to get all the (non-FoS) achievements. That's not a Blizzard thing, I'm doing the same in Anno 2070.
I'm not a Blizzard fan because their games are liquid awesome dripping steadily into my veins. Blizzard certainly stumbles on game design. I'm a Blizzard fan because they support the hell out of their games, and listen to their fans without letting the loudest ones dictate design. They've done things I really don't like, but they always explained why, and who it was for. I respect that immensely.
I played the crap out of it for a while, then got bored with it and stopped. Haven't been able to log more than a couple hours over the last couple weeks. I will continue to play little bits at a time, and I check the forums frequently for upcoming updates. I am hopeful that the game will continue to get better and better. Right now I have a level 60 monk and a level 60 barbarian. I think I might start a wizard.
first 100 hours were fun, then its hours and hours of endless farming with tons of trash and no rewards
Someone didn't play Diablo 2... Titan's Quest... Torchlight... Diablo... Darkspore... or any other game in the ARPG genre it seems.
The drops will generally be piss-poor. I've now offically found my FIRST 1000+ DPS weapon in Inferno, like 2hrs ago. I've been in Inferno since the 2nd week. Go back and play Diablo 2, and tell me how "great" the drops are in comparison. Don't go with "what you remember". Go back and play it NOW, and compare. You will be shocked.

If possible, get your hands on a Pre-LOD, 1.0.3 Diablo 2. =P
The game is definitely fun for me. I've got a full-time job and commute, so I don't spend as much time playing as some of the die-hards, but I've spent my fair share of hours in-game. I've also been motivated to join this community and attempt to contribute to the discussions here; I've been prone to lurking in the past with only a precious few games driving me to be active on forums.
I've been a huge fan of the franchise since my first experience with the original Diablo so nostalgia may be propping up my enjoyment slightly, though anyone who is honest will admit that Diablo 3 has so very little in common with any of its predecessors that any nostalgia that may be felt by players is probably manufactured more by the players themselves and less by the game. I think the game stands on its own merits as a great play, certainly deserving of the cost of admission and the time I've invested so far. Looking objectively, many elements of the game are excellent: the visuals are polished, the combat is greatly improved, and for the most part it's just flat out fun to click monsters until they die, then click their treasure. That is the measure of a good action game.
All that said, I am starting to fatigue slightly, which is likely an appropriate reaction as the vast majority of my free time has been spent with the game since launch. You'll never hear me rant and rave like some folks, however. If I get bored, I'll simply put the game down and come back at a later date, more than likely to an improved game experience.
The changes that have been implemented have been good and bad, hit or miss, but above all, they have been responsive. No one can say Blizzard hasn't been making an effort, even if a good portion of the changes they have installed have been way off the mark. That gives me hope for the future of this game.

I'm yet to find a 1000+ DPS weapon in inferno I got mine off the AH, I'm not bothered at all that I haven't found one yet!
EDIT: Is it bad that I've played all of those games?

I love it. It has a great future and I can't wait to see where it goes. This game plays great and the only way I could see myself getting bored is if I was one of the goofs that blows half his check at the RMAH.
Blizzard seems to be quite diligently listening to the fans and making strides toward improvement.
by todays standarnd if a game can hold me for 50 hours+ its a good game in my eyes,
and ATM, i have around 250 hours played in diablo 3 even tho it has its flaws, i have still managed to play one game for that long and that in it self is a good grade.
i mean i tested some other new games over the months and most of them i havent played trought yet even. some i left after around 10 hours. some i just started played for an hour and dident like the controlls of the game.
Usualy my thumb rule is if its about 2-3 hours playtime per dollar its a good game. this applies to IOS, Console, Computer games.

What is the point here? If the game was only good *before* they patched it out, your point is invalid.
I have over 200 hours clocked on my Monk, plus a 55 Barb, 44 Wizard, 42 DH, and 24 WD. Still have fun working my monk up through A2 without paying more than 400K on anything from the AH - and yes, have gotten a few upgrades from farming too.
I am amazed at this post - so many people responding positively. It feels like backwards-world coming from these forums.
Some people don't like farming and random generated content... they also probably think the "graphics are lame" and that "monster affixes should be fair"..
Again, most of these probably haven't really played D2 and aren't real Diablo fans, they're just jumping into the bandwagon... go figure..

I did... just yesterday. Got two set items already on a fresh char far before ending the first act. How many set item drops did you get already in D3, not to mention legendaries? We're not talking quality here, mind you - rather the feel that there are things worth farming for.

I like farming. I love it even. But I don't like the way it's done in D3 where you can spend hundreds of hours and don't get anything better than blue or yellow. Player have to be motivated somehow to continue farming. I find that set item (in d2, titan's quest or whatever) - ok, it might be crap but I tell myself "next one might be better" and continue to farm. But when I don't find anything at all in D3 my motivation starts to drop as even if I find anything in the next 50+ hours it will most likely be crap and I don't even want to think how many tens of hours I should spend afterwards before I get to test my RNG luck at the next legendary or set drop.
Guess I am with the 'few' that actually enjoy the game. Any game that comes out in this genre has its issues but it will get fixed and balanced, Blizzard will see to that.
Tired of the damn whiners though, or the rage quitters. Bunch of self-righteous crybabies. Yes, inferno is hard for most people, including myself. I've been stuck at the first quest of Act 3 for over a week, so I've been running Act 1 and 2 again, farming for gear, gold and mats. I'm in this game for the long haul and already looking forward to the expansion.

You have a level 59 WD. Get to 60, start inferno, and get disappointed after hours and hours of shitty drops.
