Funny, it was in #1 for the first couple of weeks, then in the top 3 after that. Now, after the 1.03 patch, it is no where on the top 10 list.
I wanted to be really, really into this game when it came out. I've been following diligently since 2008 when that stupid splash screen tortured everyone at the Blizzard site. It's a shame that after a decade of waiting, this is the final out come. Yea, I like it, and I have two +40 level characters, but I can't get into it like I did with other games.
For me, the lack of replay ability just isn't there, I refuse to replay ONLY for gear, when in the end, you won't need once you beat Inferno. What's after Inferno? I'ts only been around 45 days since release and we have a lot of people already completing the hardest difficulty in the game....so then what? I don't see how anyone can say it is fun to replay the same old crap over and over, with the same map and since you cap out at 60, you're kind of stuck.

Looks to me like you bought D3 not knowing what kind of game it is. That's all every Diablo game has ever been. It's an endless quest to find more loot. The bosses and story are secondary. Always has been, always will.
Oh no, not Gamespot! I guess I should start hating the game because it's no longer on their top 10. You obviously never played D2 if beating the game at the highest difficulty and farming gear is not good enough for you. I'm also confused at to how you judge people beating Inferno when you only have 2 characters over lvl 40 and have not beaten Inferno yourself.

Maybe he has a job/school/real occupation and is not a basement dweller like yourself, silly amerifat?
pretty sad that a game this big is already off the top 10.
I was 14 when Diablo came out, so I was right there playing on battle.net way back in the day, same thing back in 2000 then in 2001(2) when LOD came out. So yea, Diablo had random maps, Diablo 2 had HUGE random maps, Diablo 3 has small, constant, linear maps...
Diablo was innovative, then Diablo 2 built on top of that....add a decade later and you would ASSUME there would be more innovation, but no, D3 is actually less innovative than Diablo 2!
Replaying for the sake of loot is pointless, because what happens when you get everything you need to play through Inferno with little to no difficulty? Obviously you will get to that point, like I said before, its only been a little over a month and we have people maxing out their characters, or very close to doing so.
A HUGE change, or an expansion needs to come quick to keep the fanbase occupied and interested in playing through the same tired levels for the 5th time (after beating inferno).
I really know D3 was lame when I played through Normal, started back in Act 1, and I have my follower with me, but I run into his twin and go over the whole introductory story, AGAIN! Talk about lame, lazy, and stupid story telling where all of a sudden you have a twin follower. It shouldn't be hard to remove certain mechanics AFTER Normal has been played through. I mean, the monsters are automatically harder, better loot, so why not have the Templar completely wiped out of Nightmare, same with the Thieves little story, and finally the Enchantress' bridge should already be built in Nightmare.
To beat inferno before the 1.03 nerfs required 150 hours of gameplay off me. And I enjoyed myself immensly. It was very hard, very demanding and gave a lot of satisfaction. It is quite a bit easier now, but I still think it's fun.
Not many games out there make you enjoy 150 hours of gameplay. I am sure I will play a lot more as well. Diablo 2 was very limited when it first came out. I look forward to all the things they will add to Diablo 3.
The one thing I miss is having no level cap. Gaining something other than gear felt good in previous Diablos. However I presume they could never balance pvp without an easily reachable level cap.
You seem to be the most level headed in this thread so far. I haven't played D3 as long as you, fine, but I didn't need to beat the game 3 times before I realized that I was tired of going through the same motions. Yes, collecting runes would be nice, other types of trinkets or whatever to socket or charms or something to give you other abilities beyond the skill set and normal attributes. Automatic fright or blindness or hypnosis when monsters see you coming...something along those lines would be interesting.
Oh, and games with a TON of hours would be Morrowwind(sp?), Oblivion, Skyrim, WoW, Battlefield 2/3, Starcraft 1/2.
Different genres I know, but you get what I'm saying, there are games out there that give you the chance to play forever, if you wanted to.

Well OP is right there aren't much replayability in this game. Yes you can search for loot but there is no point in that. In D2 you had PvP, you could always improve your character, level-up. All those things do not exist in D3.
For example I farmed inferno Act3 for last 3 days and didn't find a single item worth selling for more than 300 gold (i don't sell for less). Now if it was in D2 at least my level would go up and i could feel some accomplishment. Here in D3 it's was pure waste of time. Also i spent millions on repairs so i would had more gold if i didn't play this game at all in last 3 days.
I honestly don't understand how, after 11 or so years, Blizzard - Activision could release arguably the most anticipated PC game of all time, and back track. People will argue about that, fine, but in reality; what did Diablo 3 add/improve/change to the series?
-Better graphics? Yes (Titan Quest isn't too far behind for being 2007)
-I'd say the classes are better, yet similar to that of Diablo 2.
-Removal of customizing attribute points really lost me.
-Swapping around skills with runes is cool, but a LOT of skills/runes are useless against higher difficulty. (most Monks run the same, DH with Tentacles until late, I believe Wizards were mostly similar also).
Besides Starcraft 2, and possibly Half-Life 3 (or episode 3?), name a game with more anticipation since it's last sequel... With this many complaints towards D3, and with a casual gaming site (gamespot) losing interest in D3, that has to say something. D3 is coming to a stand still since a vast majority are maxing out their characters with no where else to go.
Blizzard didn't see this coming? Did they not know how fast people would reach their cap?
No point in playing D2 after you beat Hell Baal I guess. Wonder why it lasted so long...
No replayability huh? Play hardcore or try not using the Ah.
So you play hardcore, beat the game, ok fine...then what? No more leveling up, no random areas to explore, same old monsters and same points in the game, same tired linear story you're forced to play through...
I honestly think the huge surge of MMORPG's is one of the biggest comparison's to any game coming out like Diablo 3. I mean, Skyrim (I haven't played), is still going strong, tons of new content coming out, and mostly because it is just a larger game with more to do.
They improved the combat system (which is a major core function)
Improved looting, which is another core function (remember when loot was all about who could click the fastest or clicking to pick up gold). I know that these concepts aren't innovative but they are nice feature.
They F upped on how loot/content progression works
They improved farming methods (NV Buff, less boss farming)
They removed redundant leveling
You never played D2, stop trolling

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
d2 also didn't nerf the fuck out of everything in the game every few weeks
It really feels like this is a public, pay to use beta testing phase. A lot of these quirks should have been addressed a while ago, they did have 11 years to do this.
I notice everyone is comparing alot of the features that Diablo 3 lacks, in it's infancy, to what Diablo 2 had in it's age, development, and expansion.
Give them time. It's been one MONTH. Games don't evolve and update like magic overnight.
To the comment of the map randomization:
Yes, the maps were bigger in Diablo 1 and 2, and more randomized, in a sense, but equally, there was far more "pointless construction" to them. How many pointless, doorless, dead-end hallways did you need in a man-made building? Also, Diablo 1 and 2 were developed using sprites. Sprites are alot easier to manipulate than a fully 3D rendered world. They had to structure the world somehow, and then made it so the content within each section was randomized from a pool of "tiles" that would fill out the map each time it is seeded. Bigger is not always better. This is also partly why the game seems "lighter" in a sense of lighting... they had it darker previously, but the way that light works in a 3D environment is alot different than a sprite-based one, and it was making the game very hard to visually see everything, without turning your gamma way up (which shouldn't be needed by everyone).

You never played D2, stop kidding your self.
Right, ok.
How many Diablo 3 players do you think went back and played D2, or were even playing PC games back in 2000? Probably not very many. But when you have huge games like the ones I mentioned above, D3 fails in comparison. With the hardcore fans, who were expecting Diablo 2 on steroids, better graphics, improved everything else, were left with this broken, "test as we go" version of the game.
d2 also didn't nerf the fuck out of everything in the game every few weeks
IT HAS BEEN A MONTH. Go back to D2 if you hate D3 so much. You seem to do nothing but troll this site looking for threads to come into and complain about the game. If you hate it so much, JUST LEAVE. We will not miss you. I promise.
What does it matter. Diablo 3 was released as a single player game with a co-op component. There are people that have dumped 200+ hours into the game, farmed gold and items so they could gear up with the best gear they possibly could and are now upset because they feel they didn't get their money's worth. Their 200 hours of entertainment for $60 just isn't enough. There needs to be more!
Well, there's not... that's the game folks. Perhaps it's time to stop pointing the finger at Blizzard and start looking at yourself if you're bored with the game. Diablo 3 is not the -only- game out there. Play something else, take a break, quit the game... Stop trying so hard to make the game into something it isn't.

I tried Skyrim. Yes, big world... it's a big, EMPTY world though. It didn't even captivate me. Skyrim has been out since November, Diablo since May... how much content did Skyrim get in it's first month? How much since then? And how much did you have to pay for (I believe this one is answered with "All official DLC")? Third-party, fan-made mods are at a total exclusion IMO, cause that isn't content from the developer.

NO WAI
I mean, its not like every thing gets bumped off the top 10 on GS because of a new news report or anything......
When the trolls are grasping at Gamespot and Xfire to try and validate their opinions....... that is a sad, SAD day indeed.
So much failure of life going on, SO MUCH.
