Going to start back up with D2 for a while, probably going to go with an Amazon or Assassin for the time being, haven't really decided yet. I see that there are some new patches out and I guess there are drawbacks to playing the new patches with LOD as opposed to classic D2, anyone know what I'm talking about? I know LOD had a lot of different items/monsters/stages...so I think I'll go with LOD.
As far as D3 goes, i have a level 44 Monk Act 2 Nightmare, and level 40 DH Act 1 Nightmare. I feel like I'm stuck as far as upgrading gear since maybe 1 out of 10 drops are actually worth looking at, even then, not suited for Nightmare difficulty normally.
The 1.03 patch is coming out soon so I've read, but isn't that mainly focusing on later Acts and later difficulties, namely Inferno? Will the new patch actually benefit something from normal difficulty or nightmare?
Anyone else want to join me with a fresh start of D2?
If you haven't unlocked Inferno difficulty, then to be honest, you haven't gotten a complete picture of the game.
The Auction House has lots of upgrades for characters below level 60 for extremely reasonable prices. Take a look, you might be surprised at what you can find and how little it will cost you to upgrade.
When you're not inferno, do whatever you want, you're far from the game being finished. Just like WOW, the game starts at lvl 85
I love how ur such a bs.
I clicked on ur D3 Auction house add and it said.
Just last week I made $673.
Yet its only been out for 2 days.
What an idiot.
So let me get this straight, after putting in around 50 hours of total gameplay, I still haven't "experienced the true nature of the game"? That is one of the reasons why I am ditching this thing for the time being. I mean, seriously, how does that at all make since? MAYBE once you get through the game once, which SHOULD be challenging for the average player, then you can be rewarded like halfway though Nightmare difficulty.
So Normal is the standard, kind of difficult play though, with really no necessary gear to get into Inferno (unless you're average gamer is going to go back and "farm" certain spots for gear, which the developer shouldn't expect a player to do).
Nightmare is letting you know things are getting difficult, and you're screwed unless you've farmed spots towards the end of Normal difficulty. Also champions became harder than bosses.
Hell mode I'm assuming is just a more frustrating version of Nightmare? I don't hear anyone talking about Hell and I'm not there yet.
Inferno is broken seemingly, according to a lot of people here. BUT this is where some of the good loot finally comes out?
So again, for an average gamer (which I am NOT), they would have to spend what around, 40 hours or so with only 1 class to get to Hell difficulty? I think that sounds about right. But, even at that point, you aren't really "into" the game yet? That's absurd.
I didn't farm normal, nightmare or hell. Just act 1 inferno for a bit for gold to get a good enough weapon for my DH to move into act 2 inferno. You shouldn't need to gear up to complete nightmare and hell, if you are struggling in nightmare than you probably don't have a good skill set up.

Tell me if I'm at where I should be for these characters:
44 Monk 9k Life 800 something DPS
40 DH ~7k Life ~700 something DPS

Did we play the same game? Even hell mephisto only dropped Sigons/Isengart 49/50 times and well have fun with 800x600
congrats
Resolution is the first argument against d2 I'd qualify as valid... Especially on fullscreen with widescreen...
That didn't stopped me but I guess it will stop many
btw, patch 1.13 introduced relatively recently for d2 was supposed to bring on 1024x768, but they dropped it because apparently too many things in the engine depended on screen resolution
Playing windowed kinda solves the issue, since you can resize the window and it get upscaled (so a bit smoothed by shader), and you have some advantages playing windowed, especially if you have 2 cdkeys and a virtual machine with another session of d2 just next to your main one
i think people forget how hard D2 was, getting gear in D2 was harder then D3 until they added rune armor and even then the high level rune armor was hard as piss cause it required high level runes that were hard to come by until duping ran rampant in D2 and blizzard stopped caring about trying to stop it.
if you play D2 now you are playing a watered down version of the original that is just comes down to people doing trist runs till what 15? then tomb runs till 20? then baal runs the rest of your life till like about 80+ depending on your preferred lvl and then grind boss runs till you get the gear to solo hell...
for all the people claiming d2 is "hard" you forget it takes 8 hours to get to level 80, and 1 outta 20 people will give you free end game gear if you're nice to them.
Tell me if I'm at where I should be for these characters:
44 Monk 9k Life 800 something DPS
40 DH ~7k Life ~700 something DPS
My 45 barb has 1700 DPS and 23k HP.
I spent about 70,000 gold to buy some upgrades when I was level 43. 70,000 isn't that much money. Then again, I already have a 60 WD that is in ACTIII Inferno so I've acquired quite a bit of gold from drops and playing the AH fr 20 mins or so, buying and reselling.
I feel like I'm stuck as far as upgrading gear since maybe 1 out of 10 drops are actually worth looking at, even then, not suited for Nightmare difficulty normally.
you must be joking, nightmare and hell are really easy. And in fact D2 normal is harder than d3 nightmare, just saying.
You must suck pretty bad at D2 then, because D2 Normal is boringly easy, just like D3, and in Both D2 and D3, Nightmare's difficulty is less about the mobs, and more about fixing how sloppy you became after going through all of normal.
Lol, by D2 being dependent on resolution, they meant it looks like crap at higher resolutions because all the gfx were scaled to 800x600.
If you are having trouble in Nightmare, you will have trouble in D2 as well. if you don't like farming for upgrades, you won't like D2 either. Everyone forgets that the reason gearing was so easy is everyone and their brother was duping good stuff and practically throwing it away. If you try to play without taking advantage of that, I am certain in a couple weeks you will have a post - "Why I am leaving D2 for D3".
FWIW - on my monk, the first time i used the AH after I hit 60, and was struggling with bosses in Hell. Bad luck on drops, even with a 5 stack - had better weapons drop for my DH and my Barb, but nothing good for me. I dropped 40k on the AH for 2 1-handers, which carried me into Inferno Act 1.
Of course, Inferno gearing is a whole different story. Dropped about 500k since, but am farming it for upgrades (2 so far, in 4 days) and cash. Once 1.0.3 comes out, I have high hopes the better chances at good loot from later acts will reduce the need to AH upgrades.
EDIT: my DH in Nightmare Act 2 has 6k HP, and about 1600 DPS. One of the benefits of having another char farming higher difficulties.
Have fun with d2.
If you found an upgrade everytime you got a yellow, game would be boring very quickly. If you dont like the hunt and grind for treassure, maybe this game isnt for you?
I think the arguement that the game falls flat until Inferno is wrong.
I enjoyed the game up until Inferno as the drops could actually be useful and I felt like I was experiencing progression with new levels etc...
If he doesn't enjoy NM then he's going to hate Inferno as it's just a gold grind and thus becomes a time sink with no gratification. Seeing a yellow item drop is not even vaguely exciting, which is so sad for a game that revolves around loot. I am in Inferno act 2 and I haven't seen one item that is useful for my barb.
However, I have hope for future patches, but I haven't played for a while as I don't have the free time to waste running into a brick wall to get gold.

Honestly, this is how I feel as well. If the game doesn't actually start until 60, what's the point of levels 1-59? Why even have them? Most people I read on the forums are just power leveling through to 60 anyway, which I find very hard to believe is fun for them.
I've been leveling through the game and am finding that after the initial playthrough to enjoy the story, it's as if the developers completely forgot that the levels before 60 exist. The "randomization" between areas is incredibly minor, and the emphasis on random champion packs and events makes me feel more like ignoring the quests and wandering aimlessly is more valuable and rewarding than "saving the world" by following the plot. Huge disconnect there.
