People want the legendaries and set items to drop more often and you wan't them to be the best items in the game. That's pretty ridiculous.
Do legendaries need to be upgraded? Yes. I don't think they should all be made BIS items, that takes away from the randomness of the game. I think the drop rate is fine for these items as well, you want them to be rare or they are less valuable.
I think ideally legendaries and buffed to be useful with unique characteristics but if you find a perfect rare, you should be far better off. Examples of this are things like Lantern and Helm of Command; having a stat on these you can't find them anywhere else makes them very useful but there are certainly better items for those slots...
I know it sounds funny that I want the drop rate and effectiveness increased, but understand that that's accross the board, not to specific elite ones. The idea should be that middle-ground sets and legendaries are more common than they are currently, but the best of the best are just as rare as they are now. The idea should be that ideally rolled high-end legendaries are rare like they are now, but something like a random Bul Kathos Wedding Band should be relatively common. Essnetially, the goal would be for all palyers in inferno to have several legendaries and set items equipped, with both room to improve on the stats on them and room to improve to better sets and legendaries. My issue is that most players in Inferno right now are decked out in rares, which are just inherently less "fun" to pocess.
the way items drop will change, but the way i see, many people are taking the easier way and blame it on the game.
in my opinion it's atleast half player fault and half blizzard for let people be able to do so...
but here is my point of view:
you just got in Act I, you try to kill some stuff and you start to die.
what you would do in D2: keep going, you die but you get better and in a few hours you get upgrades.
what you do in D3 : run the AH.
I disagree. If I could have farmed hell for upgrades, I would have. But again, in my trip through Normal, Nightmare and Hell, I found a total of zero set pieces and legendaries and virtually nothing would get me through Butcher in Inferno. I needed gear from Act 2 Inferno and later to progress in Act 1 Inferno (as a Barb). The dynamic made no sense.
Still though, that's not even the biggest issue. Because even if Inferno was nerfed drastically, the problem of not finding good drops wouldn't be solved. The difference is that instead of farming Act 2 right now, I'd be farming Act 4, equally frustrated.
In a related note, I think the way Blizzard should have set it up is to make it so 99.5% of all the loot in the game could drop in Hell. Then, with Inferno, equalize the difficulty of all the acts, keep it hard, and just increase the drop chances of high-end gear and sprinkle in a few "Inferno Only" pieces. That way, people could have farmed Hell for upgrades and met the challenge of Inferno when they were ready (and had all 4 acts to choose from without any jump in difficulty). This way, people were froced to buy upgrades in the AH just to progress so they could get upgrades, haha. Makes no sense. Why would anyone farm Hell endlessly if the gear dropping in Hell won't allow them to progress into the current Inferno?
They tried the flat difficulty model and found it didn't work out how they wanted it to be. Without actually being able to try it ourselves, it is hard to say which model is better/worse. Personally, I prefer the difficulty to increase.
As for the farming hell and getting upgrades, it IS possible. I cleared act2 inferno on my barb and did a run of act3/4 in Hell to see what kind of drops would come out of it. I actually found an upgrade from act4 Hell, then I found another upgrade in a subsequent run of Act1 inferno. Is it common? Of course not. But lets not act like it is impossible.
Well, I imagine it is possible, but is it enjoyable? Even now, with Act 2 on farm, I find some elite packs that tkae me 2-3 minutes to kill. I don't enjoy the fights for two reasons: 1) Fights that long are not synonomous with hack and slash games to me; 2) I know beforehand that the result of the fight is gonig to likely be a 200 damage blue bow.
That was my point on the flat difficulty Inferno. I'd be ok with Inferno being very hard and having the option of going to any act for good rewards if there actually were rewards. I'd also have the option of farming Hell for a lesser chance at good rewards. As of now, there's virtually nothing that can drop pre-Act 2 that's an upgrade for me and the VASt majority of what does drop in act 2 I vendor (I expect that won't change in Act 3...).
The fact that you MUST use the auction house in order to succeed is what's bugging everyone.
The game was supposedly soloable but it clearly is not. I, just as the OP, have not found a single upgrade in the countless Butcher runs. Or anything else of value. Which is just retarded compared to D2, where I did not have any AH, did not trade with other players yet finished the game while enjoying every bit of 'farming'.
Agreed^^ The difficulty isn't really the issue if people got drops then no one would be complaining about how hard melee is compared to ranged, because a little extra farming would fix that.
Same is true now i guess except you farm gold for endless hours and wait on the AH instead of actually playing the game to get a upgrade.
Im all up for the game being hard if you can fix that by actually playing the game instead of staring at a screen for hours while hitting refresh every few minutes.
I want to farm the loot myself, i don't want to but it from others.
It's ok that the AH is there for the people who don't want to play the game the way its intended, but the players who want to farm the gear should be able to.
An not feel forced into buying it from people in later acts.
No one wants to have a Diablo character in full yellow gear, they want them in full Legendary/Set gear.
Im ok with yellows, i just don't want to be forced into going to the AH to get the them an upgrade is a upgrade doesn't matter what the color is to me.
And they are directly buffing drop rates in Inferno next patch. Then they are buffing Sets/Legendarys right after. I dont see the issue? I have yet to go a single day without finding something decent.
Don't make stuff up. Everyone playing in late inferno are using almost exclusively gear they've bought from AH.
The only thing I bought off auction house (no lie)
1x rare xbow at 825 damage @ 80k gold
1x magic bow (RMAH) at 1025 damage @ 4.33 USD
No one wants to have a Diablo character in full yellow gear, they want them in full Legendary/Set gear.
I think you guys should have been around for the forum discussions prior to Diablo 3 coming out. There were a lot of people asking to not repeat D2 dominance of uniques, sets, and especially runewords. They asked for rares to be the best possible gear. I know you may not agree with this, but there are many players who are happy with rares being the best. I'm perfectly happy with it. I really disliked the runewords crush all other items era of D2, as everyone was wearing the same gear, and there was no viable way to farm runes except through botting.
I've found 4 sets/legendaries so far. I sold them for 2.5m, 2m, 1.2m and 200k. There is demand for legendaries because many offer affixes not otherwise found in that slot. Just look up prices, and you'll find many that are going for millions of gold. This isn't stupid people posting for ridiculous prices, but actual supply and demand at work that is setting the price. They will be soon be more valuable when buffed.
I think it's also a silly comment to say all uniques and sets in D2 were upgrades. Go to Arreat Summit webpage and actually look at the lists of uniques again, and you'll realize there were a bunch that simply got vendored when they dropped (ex. Windhammer).
I myself have found numerous upgrades in Act 1 Inferno. Weapons of course are inferior, but I have found many armor pieces that were upgrades. I usually find one upgrade each day, or at the very least a rare i can sell for 1m+. This is all from farming Act 1 Inferno. I also think people have the mentality that Inferno should be on farm already for everyone, after only 4 weeks. It was meant to be difficult and a slow progression; that's what players asked for. You would all be complaining twice as hard if you had it on farm easy mode and had nothing else to do only 4 weeks from game launch.

Much like politics, you can never make EVERYONE happy lol.
Much like politics, you can never make EVERYONE happy lol.
Totally agree. I always wonder what percentage of people who are unhappy with Diablo 3 right now would still be unhappy if they got what they wanted. If Inferno was farmable like people seem to be asking for, how many would turn around and say it's too easy and Blizzard hasn't given them any challenges? Politics is devolving into this whining nonsense, and I'm worried part of the Diablo 3 community is as well. I'm not singling anyone out in this thread, as I don't know what you would do otherwise, but it's the vibe I'm getting after reading all these threads and listening to General chat.

I have not used the AH but to sell my gear I cannot sell in trade chat and to purchase crafting materials and I am on ACt 2 inferno cleared up to belieal. I have yet to put him down but I am at a wall gear wise, so just like act 1 I will go back and fam to get the gear I need.
You do not need the AH to progress in this game at all. You need the AH to beat the game instanly. I have no problem farming for gear to clear inferno. I play a barbarian. So im not even one of the face roll glass cannons.
Inferno was supposed to take months to beat, not days or weeks. I assume without much luck on drops I will be looking at easily a month before I'm in act 4.
Comparing progress in D2 to inferno is just silly. Inferno was meant to be hard with lots of death and require farming. If you want to comparer progress in D2 compare up to hell. Im sure you had no problem with the game and fun going through those acts/difficulties.
Firstly, I just don't see what's wrong with using the AH. Personally, I've only used it to fill glaring holes in my gear-set, not to full tool up my character. Other people might use it to fully deck out their characters after a 10-hour gold-farming binge. So what? I played D2 a lot, but I never got anywhere near level 99 because I just couldn't be bother grinding out gear, and I felt no desire to buy other people's duped stuff. In D3, that problem has vanished. I played long enough to get the gold, what on earth is wrong with using that gold?
Secondly, I haven't started ActII inferno on any character. I haven't even bothered trying, because I actually like the loot-finding game, so I'm waiting for 1.03's drop-rate tweaks... and most of all, the changes to the guaranteed rare-drop mechanics. I think the NV mechanic is pure genius, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it plays out. In the meantime, I'm happily leveling other characters and... OMG... playing other games.

This. This is exactly why I opened a ticket with Blizzard and got a refund after hitting the inferno wall. They changed the game formula to something I don't like. I don't want to have to use the stupid AH to play, and I don't want to get destroyed by monsters just because I joined my friends' game and caused their damage to be amplified even more (though I hear they at least fixed that). I STILL play Diablo 2, and I find it to be a better experience. I will see what games like Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, and Torchlight 2 (played the beta, it was enjoyable) bring to the table when I get to play them, but Diablo 3 failed as my arpg of choice.

Sure its soloable, it just takes months, which was kind of blizzards intent, people expect to beat act 4 within weeks using pure drops they find.
Meh another loot rant. I don't go a single night of farming without finding at least SOMETHING reasonably good to sell. Cydaea/Azmodan is my bread and butter farm, however I'm extending into Izual/Diablo and I'll see which is better. I am thoroughly enjoying this game, and if you aren't then that's fine too. I don't see the need for these excessive complaining threads.
I also have no idea who told you to farm Act 2, but they should be slapped. Hard.
because he cant clear act 3/4 Mr. "I used Smoke Screen to faceroll trough Inferno"
I don't have a single friend or know a single class who can't clear Act 3 efficiently. Act 4, sure it can get stupid. Blaming Smoke Screen is a pretty weak argument.
And they are directly buffing drop rates in Inferno next patch. Then they are buffing Sets/Legendarys right after. I dont see the issue? I have yet to go a single day without finding something decent.

No offense, but as a DH, all you need to buy on the AH is a bow. The ease of progressing on a DH vs. a melee class is not debatable and not the purpose of this thread. What I would be interested in knowing is the quality of drops you've received while playing the game.
I've used it. Maybe spent a total of 600k across all accounts. I guess I broke your reality
My main issue with posts like this is that you're pretending that the game requires an intense amount of skill and that you're in some way better than everyone else because of how you've played the game. There's nothing that you've done in this game that millions of others haven't -- you're not special.
When I got into NIGHTMARE with the crappy gear I had from normal, I couldn't kill the first champions pack that I found. I was stuck.
Then I found that with 5k gold I could buy a lot, actually, everything that would make me breeze through the difficulty, and that was proven to be true up to late Hell.
Now, take the AH out, and I have over 200 hours of gameplay without ever finding A SINGLE GOOD ITEM.
Considering that I would probably be farming Nightmare to get past nightmare, whoever says they find good drops are either very lucky or just me that am incredibly unlucky.
Bottom line: to me, D3 is impossible to play without AH.
To each his own, really. I've seen nothing but complaining throughout all the forums. There are a lot of people that support these complaints, and a lot that don't. Personally, I am still playing the game, but I definitely do not see the replayability that there was in D2. I've got some ideas as to why, but every issue has been beat to death and I see no need to repeat anything. I also feel like the only reason I am still playing is that it's a Diablo game and I just have to, it just has to get better... Right? I will keep coming back in hopes that the patches make it better, but right now I am just not seeing it. I am already crazy bored by this game.
