I had zero problems after the first hour of launch. (I wasn't trying to play while the servers were down, obviously)

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
For a game where you can play the entire thing w/o interacting with another player, the fact that it was even down for anything longer than a second is jarring. The world is used to being able to play SP games whenever they want. Take that second into hours and you get plenty of warranted rage. If you were there for the MP or the AH, then it was just like an MMO launch.
With my schedule, I managed to hit every maintenance/crash on release day. Today was 1000 times better though, got to play for quite a few hours, only a few lag spikes here and there but no DCs or error 70whatever trying to log in.
I can see both sides, they were in BETA for a while so the launch day should have gone smooth, but just that many people hitting at once had to be a pull on the system, especially with the downloads.
It was untimely - waited to play at server open and it failed so I went to bed. Went to work, come back home, server is under a 2+ hour maintenance window. Finally played for 3 hours until started getting flaky again.
No big deal really, just annoying because of my play schedule.
...my CE arrived unexpectedly early...so i was happy...didn't care about the down service time...still played for 3+ hours...when the servers were down i went outside with family...will never understand the 'i can't play' rage-fits...(just because you feel like someone broke your new toy does not mean you have to act like a child)...just go do something else for a while...

Been doing that for a few months, now that I've had a taste for the real deal nothing else compares.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I'm honestly confused by some of it. I played with 2 buddies nearly the whole day on Tuesday except the down time around 4:30 CST. Other than that and the first hour or so I didn't have any issues whatsoever. We had one friend who tried with us for a little but gave up about 10 minutes after the first attempt failed. Little perseverance and we all played for most of the day. Later on we were chatting with my brothers as they played as well. Just not sure what to make of all the negative press. Even Ars Technica got on the bandwagon bashing them. I figured a tech site would have a bit more understanding in the logistics of that much log in and character creation.
EDIT That video is Francis. A character that guy uses as a form of sarcasm. He generally uses this character when gamers go apeshit on stupid topics.
it sucked that i couldnt play at midnight.. after trying for about an hour i went to bed because i had work 5 hours later... then spent all day @ work looking forward to it only to come home and see it will be in maintenance for a few hours... then got on and played for ~3 hours.. then it died for another 6 and that was last night.. it was bad.. but.. if it works from now on without much problems, in 4-5 months i'll probably look back and say "considering the size of the launch, it went pretty well"

I am level 6 and I tried to play at midnight release and for a few hours upon getting home from work. I know it was up for a considerable amount of time, but for me personally the downtime of the release was indeed quite terrible.
still gettin dc'd about once every 15-20 mins, REALLY annoying when youre like 2/3 of the way through a dungeon and have to start over 3 times in a row, but aside from that, no real lag to speak of. I would like to see my ping drop below 200 though, im usually sittin around 15-30 ping on most other online games :\

Everyone had access to OBW for free unlike launch. Apparently that didn't do anything.
OBW is a test and not the real thing. I can bet you good money the OBW's 2M people is much less than bought the game. On top of this OBW is a" come and play the beginning of our game like huge numbers of people have already been doing" so not everyone is logging in at the same time and creating characters at the same time. Understand that when you got on the game it was fine. Short of the extremely rare cases of character loss which I've only heard in passing, achievement restart, and a bug about the DH giving items to a follower (both of which Blizzard warned ahead of time would happen) the game was pretty damn smooth. Its an issue of connecting and submitting a character along with a good 2M others.
Did anyone see this guy wigging out? (YouTube)
I mean really, is that necessary? Funny but not necessary.
