I might be missing something, but why is it thst video games are the only product that its acceptable to release with issues like this. When apple released the iphone 3g, the activation servers couldnt handle the load and people were unable to use their phones for days. Why was that unacceptable, but people are defending blizzard. You can say all you want about people knowing there was no offline mode, or how difficult it is to plan ahead for server load, but at the end of the day, you have several million people who paid for a product that they are unable to use.
If you bought a new car, that you could only sit and look at for the first 2 or 3 days you owned it because the manfacturer didn't account for the amount of keys they would have to produce, you would be pretty upset. Why should blizzard be any different? Ive built data centers for double click and goldmann sachs which were turned on and open to millions of connections, and worked right from the get go, because low and behold, they had to. In most bussiness downtime is completely unacceptable, why do we tolerate it here, and why do people feel the need to defend it?
If you're preparing for a release like this, and you dont make sure that you are prepared for every contingency, despite the cost, well thats just a poor bussiness model and you should be ashamed.
^ This. A faulty product is a faulty product. Expecting to get what you paid for is not whining,
Video game companies are buisniesses like everyone else who pitches products, the only difference is that their target market is teenagers and very young adults who dont understand that reliability and punctuality are EVERYTHING in the business world, and by constantly missing deadlines and delivering unreliable products, blizzard is presenting themselves as one of the most unprofessional businesses out there.
Unreliable products? Missing deadlines? You don't know what you are talking about. I mean... are you talking about Blizzard here? They push back games because they are not ready for release and because they believe the "said" game could be much better. They "miss" deadlines because Blizzard doesn't want to make half-assed products. Unreliable products? lol oh man, what the fuck are you smoking? If you are so butt hurt due to some small server crashes (surprise!), just uninstall the game and don't even buy a Blizzard product again. SEE YA! I'll be here enjoying their games, patiently and unspoiled.
"Americas region service update at: http://us.battle.net...175175?page=1#0 Service expected to return by 11:45 p.m. PDT as we work to resolve these issues." - #Diablo
AKA 2 hours :/ I'm not tired, either.
"[Update]
We're continuing to work on the issues currently affecting the Americas region, which are resulting in failed login attempts and service issues. While we've identified the causes and are working to resolve them, we expect our efforts to require an approximate two hours to complete. We expect game services to fully return by approximately 11:45 p.m. PDT. We apologize for the downtime, and appreciate your continued patience."
Well, servers aren't going to be up until 11:45pm PDT at the earliest. First day of D3, big bust, due to negligence on Blizzard's part. Poor techies have to stay up all night and suffer for upper management mistakes of trying to minimize costs to extremes and expecting things to go smoothly.

eerrr..... how do we express the difference between delivering crap or patients to polish. Maybe you shouldn't remark on blizzards professional standards because i can name a few other gaming franchise who have product that SUCKS MASSIVE DI*K. blizzard is having a very good successful time right now and reguardless of there minor server issues (which is the least of there problems) the game so far doesnt have any major bugs, and is still pretty damn polished
it will, the big wigs aren't willing to spend the money on a decent amount of reliable servers to handle the massive flood of people they idiotically let in all at once.

And how do you know what they are spending on? Please don't spread your ignorance around like that.
Since some people don't seem know what to expect from an online game , when Blizz say "We expect game services to fully return by approximately 11:45 p.m. PDT" don't be surprised if the servers aren't open at that time! I just have a feeling people will bitch about servers not being up at that time just like they are bitching now, and well those people are foolish in my opinion.

What do you expect from the current generation? It is mostly made of spoiled and impatient brats.

were foolish because we get upset when they constantly tell us, "we will have it fixed by this time" and every single time its not fixed?
i think its perfectly reasonable to be upset over that.
