Diablo 2 monsters didn't 1-2 shot you? You ever try an untwinked build? You know, without your life charms, shako, HoTO, etc? Yeah, probably not.
I played without botting for years.
So that would be a yes.
Like I said, once you figured out the secrets to the game.
Dump stats in Vitality, get the right spec, life leech, mana leech, get resistances, farm some gear from nightmare, know cheap runewords, profit....
And if you'd use your brain - you'd see it's the same case for Diablo 3. We need to farm to survive in Inferno so we don't get one and two-shot.
Quit being a nit-picker who does nothing but complain for the sake of complaining.
You say you could survive plenty in D2.
You then say you had to farm to survive in D2.
You complain that you'll be 1-2shot in Inferno if you don't farm in D3.
Obviously D3 is a throw-back to D2 in the sense that you need to farm for some gear so you can have an easier time to survive. That's what difficulty in an A-RPG has and always will be.
What the fuck is your logic? Please fucking tell me how anything you've stated in this entire thread makes any sense. You say we shouldn't stack defensive stats because it makes us a bunch of pussies.
Yet you say you stacked resistances, vitality and life-leech in D2.
You're being the shining example of a hypocrite.
Edit: Pardon me for my foul use of language but I just had to go get a seven year old off the top of a house because he decided to be an ignorant derp-shit and climb to the top of a house when he's afraid of heights.
A lot of people forget that this game is about searching for better gear.
If you notice carefully, there is a big jump between Hell and Inferno stats for those monsters. And devs always said that people would not be able to take on Inferno right away, that they would have to grind for gear.
They also said that the gear in Inferno considerably improves your stats. So, taking all this into account, it makes sense. Your not getting 1-shotted if you have appropriate gear, but you still have to play carefully (avoiding big hits e.g.).
I honestly don't understand what the fuss is about...They always said Inferno would crush you in the beginning, that you would need better gear. What did you expect? Only more abilities/tactics on monsters? And if you knew the tactics, then the Hell's gear was enough? I am glad they did not make it that way!
If you wanted a game in which tactics was all that mattered, then you got the wrong game. Even in Diablo 2, tactics were not enough. If you didn't knew the tactics, you were dead. But without gear, you were also dead.
The people who think that A-RPGs are or will develop into a genre with the use of tactics rather than large-scale action and slaughter are sadly mistaken and should really go play a numerous arrangement of S-RPG's such as Final Fantasy Tactics.
They're looking for something in the A-RPG genre that they'll never find. Yes, bosses will have attacks that you should react to; but A-RPGs are a loot-fest where your sole purpose is to enjoy the endless grind of obtaining better loot.
I am going to laugh so hard when you survival mode players start crying like little bitches.
Most people don't know what they actually want. You guys just think you want this stupidly designed horse shit. That shit will get old fast, and you will log onto your WoW account, zoom over to a level one toon, and cry to blizzard when you can't progress at all.
what the eff? yes lets all purposefully make ourselves easily killed and make the game harder for ourselves. . so obviously the ONLY reason blizzard added defensive abilities is for people who are bitches? trolololol
DH's don't really have passive dmg reduction abilities champ...

I didn't say to not use defense. I merely pointed out that in at least some situations the added defense would accomplish nothing.
You are the shining example of a straw man with a side of ad hominem.

That's a double negative...so...you're saying that you did say to use defense? Pretty sure you didn't..
My bad grammar police, but if you know its a double negative then you should also know how to correctly interpret it.

In a case where you can be 1-2 shotted, then defense is potentially worthless.
If you have say 30k health and a mob hits you for 20k dmg, after dmg reduction, then you will if you are hit twice.
Gaining another 9,000 health would be worthless, because you would still die in two hits. Unless you had some means to heal yourself of course. On the other hand, gaining just another 1001 health makes the added defense invaluable, thus enabling you to take a 3rd hit.
The problem is that there is such a huge gap between being able to survive 2 hits and surviving 3 hits.
10,000 HP in the game, even with +100% HP, would be 500 vitality.
That seems outrageous to me, but maybe the gear in inferno is just insanely better than the gear in hell.
That is a possibility.

I'd be willing to say that the gear from inferno is significantly better than the gear from hell.
Everyone's comparing a monster's Hell stats to Inferno stats and going "WOW what a big jump!" You can't compare Act IV Hell to Act IV Inferno and say that you're going to get creamed. Look at this:
Armaddon Act IV Hell: 54k-76k health, 14k damage
Arachnid Horror Act I Inferno: 49k-81k health, 18k damage
When you look at it that way, it doesn't look like a big jump at all. Now...
in this thread, there is this post i just quoted, and there are 100 posts full of imagination
a simple fallen one/devilkin/carver or whatever his name is wont one shot you in inferno, he will be just a little bit harder than the previous monsters you killed - in act 4 hell
same thing with that guy in act 4 inferno that does 170k, if you have managed to get to him, that means you didnt have a problem with the guys hitting for 150k or 120k just an area before him
^^ This, only sensible post in this entire thread (and I've read them all)..
The skill factor in a game where you get 2 shotted is out the window. There is no more skill, its just a matter if you rolled the right class and took the appropriate cookie cutter build.
This sounds familiar. Sort of like the massive flaws of D2 that we were supposed to be avoiding.

@antire your all over the place. are you saying the DH is shit and the 30% dmg reduction for the melee classes is da best? seems like your going back n forth. id say avoiding dmg all together is much better then any type of reduction. lets not assume inferno monsters will just be completely devoid of being able to be CC'd or kited considering theres zero evidence of that

You got 2 shotted in Inferno ?
It's still more than 1 shot though you should have kited after 1st hit.

@ redpanda...actually that was NOT a double negative. It would have been had he said "I didn't not say.." instead of what he actually said, which was "I didn't say not..." which is grammatically correct.

When did I say the grammar was bad? I pointed out that it was two negatives and that it was hard to understand what he was thinking if he wasn't clear and precise.
I like how I point out a simple issue that bars the true understanding of his thought process and some guy thinks he understands the English language.
A double negative means that when a sentence is spoken it may imply that the opposite is what the person meant. It is also used in situations where you want to down-play something. In this case - there was nothing to down-play.
IE: I did not say that I did not shoot him.
I didn't say I was uninterested (not interested also works).
Not sure if you understand...but the act of negation is done by words like not. If it is used in the same sentence twice - it IS a double negative.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you live in one of the nations that currently accepts double negation as an intensity rather than a method of negation.
Was it necessary for us to come to the point where we argue over English simply because I was curious as to which statement he was attempting to say?
I mean, his entire view-point changes depending on whether he said that you need defense vs. you don't need defense.
I dont understand why you guys argue that DH has no passive defense.. they are dex-based, which means they will have a very high natural dodge chance.
couple this with the fact that they are a long range class, and have multiple escape moves, and several active methods of defense, I don't see why it is an issue. The DH has always been designed as a 'hit-and-run', type of class. It fits the character design perfectly.

huh? where did defense and survival turn into specifically "passive dmg reduction"? and then all about the DH?
???????????????????????????
That's a double negative...so...you're saying that you did say to use defense? Pretty sure you didn't..
All of this speculation will become absolutely redundant once the game is out anyway so chill out and wait until people actually hit inferno first..
You replied to my threads, so I assumed you read them.
My bad....
Anyways,
DH -> Low Passive Defense -> High Dmg of inferno-> High Probability of instagib -> devoid of skill = bad design
