Or maybe they stay off these forums. I may be wrong but after being on this site for a couple of years and playing the beta since January, it feels like there are ALOT of WOW ans SC2 players and new diablo players buzzing around d3, in-game and out. There's nothing wrong with that but most of the complaints about D3 come from them. I keep seeing questions and topics being made and thinking to myself "Really? Have they even played D2?". I remember back in the day when people were drooling over just to get a Bonesnap Maul for their barb and when Magic Arrow was a nuclear bomb. has Diablo lost fans?
You know...I'm a true Diablo fan. Been waiting 10+ years for D3. However...staying off this forum (I'm new) does not make me a fan or not. I just don't need a pat on the back to remind me I am a fan. Why? Because I AM and no one can convince me I am or convince me I'm not.
A true Diablo fan will never be put off all the crap most of the people on here bitch about.
Internet connection?
Sure, I didn't have one... so... I GOT ONE Money?
Was a bit tight..made a plan and got the CE Free time?
Made sure I have some, or A LOT RMAH?
Pfft, didn't need it before and won't need it now
The only thing that will make me HATE D3 is the storyline - if it sucks I will toss it in the fire and watch it burn and I will WRITE my own Diablo 3 - story wise.
The only thing they can screw up in my opinion is the story.
I don't care about the RMAH, I don't care about anything except the storyline.
Been playing Diablo 2 on and off since 2000. I can't say I'm the biggest fan, but that's because I know a lot of people on Diablofans have been here longer than me and are still here, every day, in hopes that this game will live up to it's predecessor.
As a longtime D2 player, when I tried WoW I was initially shocked and alienated by many of the differences, such as movement controls, the concept of in-combat and out-of-combat, BoP/BoE items, the absolute requirement that I play in groups/raids for some of the content, etc. I could go on and on. Eventually I got so used to the WoW gameplay that they all felt natural, but I still remember how off-putting it was at first.
10 years have passed since D2 was released, and about that much time has passed since its popularity peaked. There will be many returning vets in their late 20s, 30s, and older, but there will also be many, many people too young to have seriously played D2. A great deal of those people will have grown up on WoW. So all the things that were so alienating at first to me -- the reverse of that will naturally happen for many newer, younger players. It's not a bad thing to be a WoW player unused to Diablo's style of gameplay, and I really can't stand the belittlement that many people seem entitled to direct towards anybody of the WoW generation. With that said, I also can't stand the constant whining and complaining from **some** members of that generation that don't know the definition of open mind.
Since it took them 500 years to develop it, the older players have since gone on to other things, grown out of gaming, have other responsibilities etc.

A true fan would never grow out of the game. A true fan would stick with it regardless. Almost like a Brony(No I am not one!). They watch a girly show because they are true fans of it and don't care what others say.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.
I'm no huge fan, but I've been there when Diablo was released and played the heck out of it, as well as Diablo 2, however it was at least 2-3 years since I played Diablo 2 last time (I blame Sacred 1 & 2, Torchlight and Titan's Quest).
I don't mind the changes. I mean, do we really want Diablo 2 clone, down to everything except story? I know I don't.
Games evolve, today games are much different than back in early 2000. I am neutral about RMAH. Diablo 3 is not a subscription based game and there will be expenses that have to be covered somehow. You can try to earn a bit of cash on it, or could just ignore it. It wont affect you, really. There will probably be bots, but my guess is that they won't be able to farm higher difficulties where the best items are.
Heroes of Newerth started out as a one time purchase and then you could play with no way of developers being able to earn more money except from new players buying the game. But then there was the cost of server maintenance, paychecks, etc etc. And it's a fairly popular game. They had to go F2P and add a microtransaction shop.
Give it some time, Blizzard have never created a crappy game.

Or became developers to get sneak peeks and force it along. A true fan is NOT a true fan if they lose hope or liking in the game.

I see as many complaints from so called veterans who are blinded by nostalgia and want a remake of Diablo II. I also see as many complaints from these veterens who make claims about something being a 'Diablo staple', like skill trees, that just shows they've only played half of the available Diablo games, but still see themselves as being owed by Blizzard because they 'know how a Diablo game is supposed to work'.
There is just as much nonsensical bitching from the opposite ends of the spectrum.

well ive been playing the beta for a while and they definately havnt lost me from what i seen so far. imo every single element of d3 surpases d1 and d2 and yep ive played both the prior ones when they were launched

No they haven't. Not every original player will satisfied with the sequel or whatever Diablo 3 is considered to be. Basically because of nostalgia and such.
And yes there is a lot of new players to the franchise. The new players may even out number the old vets. Gaming has been exposed to a much larger market in the last 10 years, even 5. People from WoW and SC2 are going to be playing because it's another Blizzard game and it's a company who has satisfied them greatly with WoW, SC2 or both.
I think it seems like "veterans" are spare, or their presence is seldom felt on this and other forums is because there are just so many new players to the franchise. And there is seriously nothing wrong with that.
