I keep seeing these pictures on Armor Tiers for each class and while they look somewhat interesting, I think they dilute the uniqueness of individual gear. Personally, I don't really want the rare and epic items to fall into an Armor Tier category when I equip them. I want them to look exactly the same on each character so when I run into someone and they have a rare item on, I want to be able to spot it out.
Armor Tiers make the loot preset and generic. Boring.
We've been told that all armor graphics are designed in sets, so I'm not sure we're likely to see legendaries with unique looks, though it's certainly possible. Anyone have linkage saying they will have distinct graphics?
In any case, there are 17+ tiers, so hopefully there's something there for everyone. My only gripe is how nearly all of the top-tier armor sets are giant, steel monstrosities. It wouldn't be as much of an issue if there was a system to change how a given piece of armor looks, but there's not, so everyone in Inferno will look like they're wearing power armor.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
Ya I have to disagree. Have you played wow? While most of your armor at high lvls match some what, there are always a few pieces that just don't match the others. Making you look like a miss match of armor sets. Its one complaint that I've always had was that no matter how good my gear was. If it didn't all match then i looked foolish. Roll a new character,(without heirlooms) get them to lvl 20, and look at your gear. You look stupid.
D2 had this same concept where your items fell into tiers. Made it so while it took away from the uniqueness you didn't look like a clown while lvling. Since blizzard didn't have to make tons of armor they made the weapons and shields look cool. So yes people will look like you but weapons will still stick out. You can still see my Dragon Flying Diabo.
hmm in D2 they had armor Tiers that looked the same but colors were unique with "unique" and "set" items. Now we have Dyes so... possibly the same shape of armor with a unique pattern/drawing on them is possible but there is no way the unique armors will take on a different shape/form thats just way too much programming for them heck the monk fights with his weapons on his back i doubt htey wasted time designing 1000 different looks for every piece of gear. What matters is the stats of your gear not what it looks like this isn't a barbie dress up game.
yeah. set/legendary items will have a unique look to them. We have already seen screen caps of the giant skull helms and the blind faith mask. those are not part of any of the class specific armor tiers and they definitely look different.

any idea where such a screen cap exists? I'd like to see that!

I disagree. Shako matched NOTHING, but it was still awesome looking.
Same thing with Vamp gaze and leviathan armor. Sure, they matched each other, but nothing else that was good.
Did you still look bad ass wearing any of them, even though the colors clashed? Hell yeah.
I don't think sets would look good if they were all the same color. I'm going with 3-color schemes for each char.
EDIT: No, spell check, I will not use a "u" in the word color(s)!!!
This is something I've given a fair amount of thought to as well. I think it's safe to assume that not all high end items will fit into the tiered armor sets. Remember that weapons/shields/off hands will all have unique looks as well which will differentiate your characters.
I think Blizzard knows that everyone looking the same at level 60 would be a severe drawback to the item hunt. I have faith that Blizzard knows that parts of the item hunt that create the addictive nature of farming in D3.

So... you're saying that them having 17+ tiers of looks (not accounting for set and legendary items which have unique looks) multiplied by 5 for each class (and then adjusted slightly for each gender) Is generic and boring? So you'd rather have everyone look the same even on different classes because they might have the same piece of gear?

See, this is the part that nobody is completely sure on, at least, no source has been given to confirm this. So I think he has a valid point as of yet. Unless you can supply a target - A MILITARY TARGET, THEN NAME THE SYSTEM!?

Does the Doom Armor on the male Barbarian look familiar to anyone else? I swear I've seen something that looks something like it. I think it was from a movie or game, Or maybe it was a passing beetle of some sort. Not sure!
ON TOPIC: Well now we've gotten ourselves into a bit of a pickle with these tier sets looking too 'generic' haven't we?! I'm not quite sure how they're boring in any sense if they're all different. Me personally I like it that they don't all look the same. Lets my mind go bat shit insane when I see a Barbarian look equally or more -insert descriptive word while adding the word 'fuck' before it to add that feel of frothing at the mouth excited!- I lost my train of thought after that sentence so I'll stop it there
Not to mention if they all looked the same there would be a lot more ' ZOMG DIABLO IS SO MUCH LIKE WOW' threads on this forum and we just can't have that now can we?

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
Although i do feel like more variety in the items would be nice, the way they are build right now just make sense, afeter all they are all wearing a balor armor.
Otherwise would be like complaining in real life because all chain mail armor looks alike.
Speaking strictly of the tiered armor sets, I find they are mostly boring and extremely disappointing. It almost makes me not want to play the game since I know I will constantly be working my way to progress through the various unappealing armor sets, but I guess I don’t really like D3’s visuals at all anyway so it will have to make up for it in gameplay (and hopefully good audio). Some of the various sets pieces seem to have WoW, anime, and/or Asian influences that don’t suit Diablo. The armor sets seem especially uninspired, in a game which lacks unique visual style. I'm sure plenty of people disagree with me, and there's no reason for you to have to share my opinion.

seeing them here also make it more epic

They are called Legendary so that requirement for unique doesn't apply. Though I'm sure they still will have unique appearances.
