You can download the client already, no need to wait for launch. Problem solved!
Not 100%. The client is still encrypted and will take time to complete the install once you register your code on the 15th. That will take around the same amount of time as it would to install from CD (As I mentioned above).
I'm buying 2 Box REGULAR copies the day of launch (NOT midnight).
I bought one copy from Best Buy ($10 in reward zone bucks that were expiring), and one copy from Target ($5 gift card with preorder, and 5% off with redcard).
It works out better for me as i have to work Tuesday anyways.
Box copy for me....since the servers don't go live here until 2 hours after "my" midnight I'll spend that time installing, twiddling my thumbs, looking at the clock, etc.
I ordered regular digital version because there was no benefit to buying a box copy from a store. That being said, I regret not ordering the CE now. It does kinda annoy me though that there is no cost or product benefit from pre-ordering the digital version.
I've been so torn on this for a while... On one hand I want to play right at midnight, on the other I want a sweet looking box to put on the shelf next to my d2, sc, sc2, wow, etc... boxes. Still can't decide.
oops brain fart haha
Also, CD's or Online Install should both take aprox the same time. (Assuming you've already downloaded the game and are just waiting to decrypt.)

Plus CE for me so...
I am willing to sacrifice the first 30 mins of release to have the box and cd.

Ha. Bagstone.
Have you really never installed a Blizzard product (from CD)? Slowest to install, fastest to uninstall (not that people would ever do that : ).
Edit: Bought digital, but likely would have done boxed if I'd known there was no (local) midnight release.

Your installation speed is completely dependent on your machine.
If you have a slow DVD drive.. then yes it will be slow.
IF the installer is smart and can parallel process (aka install WHILE copying files from the DVD).... it won't be that much longer.
Definitely a spare CE is a gift that will be appreciated down the road.
