Only problem with that is its averaged over the whole group so if one person has 200% Mf and the other 3 have zero then EVERYONE gets a mf of 50% but I don't mind this system. So yes you could take 3 dpsers and kill things faster but your averaged mf would be lower
Kinda sorta on topic, will there be any place to show how much mf we are getting in public games?
Also, at first I didn't Like the change but I can see the arguments for both sides.
I loved mf in D2 and it didn't really affect killing ability to badly. Well have to see how it plays out in D3.
Also, I played open beta only and looked and kept all mf and had only 9% at the end lol
Honestly Im at the point where Im 100% going to stick to solo games, or games with close friends because of this shared magic find malarky. Not because of leeching or gimping stats for magic find or whatever, but because all its going to do is cause arguments and groups falling apart because someone isn't playing exactly how someone else wants them to.
My experience in multiplayer in similar situations has been less than stellar, and I hate it when egos collide and people act venemous toward each other over such a pithy thing. Honestly I'd have no problems carrying three maxed magic find leechers at all with the current magic find system, but I know its impossible for peope to keep their composure when they are confronted with something they consider an affront to what they perceive as status quo.
Shared MF makes sense really because loot is no longer shared.
D2 had theoretically shared loot (very theoritical), because of problems due to the loot mechanisms of D2 they decided to make that individually. In the end its the MF that got shared in the process.
Also people thinking they can now start to leech off other are delusional, this wont be effective since you will just hope for someone with mf joining your game ? Terrible. On the other hand high mfers can play with their friends and also stop assuming everyone but them will have MF.
If your group doesn't kill things faster to make up for the loss of MF then its just a terrible group MF or no MF.
The only way to play with others as a Magic Find whore is to find 3 other Magic Find whores to play with...
For every non-MF whore in your group your group will be killing faster so you'll get more items. More items per hour w/ less chance is no different than less items per hour with more chance (assuming Blizzard did a good job balancing killing power with losing the MF stat).
Got a solution for ya. Add like minded people who are going to play as much as you (me, over here) and who will focus as much as possible on magic find/gold find, and play with them.

Only play public games when there's absolutely no other people online for playing with you, and only when you find out whether the infamous killing speed (and barrel breaking, stone turning, corpse looting - speed) are also beneficial. Something we will only find out in release.
I feel the path they've chosen is the lesser of 2 evils, and I'm not pissed about it. It would be a lot worse having a big part of the community leeching in public games to the point where people wouldn't play public games having to carry others around.
Question for everyone. Who here actually MFed with others in diablo 2 on a consistant basis? I sure know I didn't MF with anyone else in the same area. I might have games where we are in the same game, but are MFing different areas. FYI, I don't count running hell baal and then pickit or mad grab for gear as mfing. If you played consistantly with 8 players and NEVER mf on the side for gear and didn't use pickit, I'm willing to bet you gained gear slowly and will get ALOT more gear with shared mf, also, I doubt if you truly want to MF, you aren't gonna be doing it with 3 randoms you've never met, especially if in inferno, you really can't split up to MF.
D2 Fact, MFing was done majority SOLO or with select friends due to item jacking, which by the way is now eliminated. A little sacrifice in MF or have 7 other people hacking/jacking the drop. Gee, hard choice.
You MIGHT be correct in that yes, I think it does slightly encourage solo MF'ing. BUT, I think the other side of the coin is if it completely deters moochers and bots that load up with MF and join public games just to tag along, then I think it's worth it.
In all honesty, I always MF farmed alone in D2, so it's not going to bother me at all. And if I DO want to mf with friends, we all just put on as much MF as possible while still being able to kill and we're golden.
Now that it's been mentioned, I never mf'd with friends in d2. MXL with /set players sure, but it was more efficient to just join a game likely to fill quickly (like exp run games) and jump the bosses solo. There was a limit to how many cows were waiting through the portal as well.
I think that the system they have designed will be fine. How difficult would it be to go full mf, join a random pub, and just leech off their damage if it was the old system. Then they are doing all the work for you to sit back and get the better loot. It forces players to make choices on how to build their heroes gear in a way that lets them have their mf, but still do damage. In the case of friends playing, it also allows people to set their groups up with damage dealers, and players that maybe have higher mf so they can all benefit.
Will be playing all single player so it won't really effect me, but someone in here made a good post about your killing speed will be aided by others who have less mf gear, so it balances out.
I think people are forgetting that playing with more people causes MORE loot to drop as well.....
As long as you're playing with people you know, you can be trading gear around from each others drops and get FAR more geared than if you were just playing alone.
If you think about it, the diablo dev team probably had this exact same conversation while trying to decide what system to use. They are more like the fans than people think.
Im quite fond of the system simply because as everyone else pointed out it will be easier to kill stuff. You wanna not share it do your own MF runs or do a group where everyone is using their mf gear, thats what me and my friends will be doing when farming gear.

debate ended.
+1 from me.

That'd tick me off way more than anything else.
Except this doesn't discourage MF leechcing, it just discourages people from playing public games.
I think it encourages playing in a group, but only if you know the players as friends. In a random public game, it doesn't make sense.
