I think he was more refering to that in a group on your first kill you'll get 8 rare drops compared to 2. Now that is only if your group is gearing each other out but thats definately better odds in my book.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure you don't see the other player's drops...
ts not all, I didn't take a screenshot, but that same vendor had +5 dex/6%MF rings...so overneathe and myself hatched a plan, I would stay in game afk, while he went and got the 15k gold we both needed for 4 of the crossbows and 4 of the rings
Invest ALL your gold and resources into your blacksmith. Crafting will be the best source for gear. Craft selectively based on your biggest slot need.
This is one is simply not true, you really gotta be careful with how you spend your gold, I proved to myself last night that trying to get your BS to level 4 right away is a BAADDDD mistake.
I just spent 10k gold or so ont he BS went to the vendor to see if his stock changed and saw this....

Is it possible the vendors had that good of gear bc of the BS? I haven't seen anything close to that in beta.
As to Pskfry for example, i have 3 friends that I'll be playing with for the first 72 hours only. We're all playing different classes and will trade each other gear if its a upgrade to that person.
This week a spent several days maxing out every class and obtaining every achievement. Here are my tips and observations.
5 Tips for Launch Day:
Select “Elective Mode” in Options. I overlooked this at first because I didn’t know it was there. This will allow you to fully customize all of you skills and toolbars.
Invest ALL your gold and resources into your blacksmith. Crafting will be the best source for gear. Craft selectively based on your biggest slot need.
Select purely DPS skills, attributes, gear. Normal difficulty is going to be so easy that you want to maximize your killing efficiency. I maxed out all 5 classes to level 13 without dying once. For the boss fights, if needed, you can always temporarily swap out for some defensive and buffing skills before the fight.
Play in a group for the best drops.
Witch Doctor’s Soul Harvest is not OP. I admit this is the most powerful skill in beta, however do not assume it will be the best skill for the full game (or that WD is the best class). We don’t know how this + intelligence will scale up with leveling. The DPS boost for a level 50 character could likely be much less than a level 10 character.
5 Opinions from Beta:
D3 feels exactly like D2. Except with a predictable facelift to the graphics and UI.
GameSpot Review predication: 8.5 – 9.0. The game has been in development for so long and expectations have been so high, I just do not see it scoring any better than a 9.0. There is nothing groundbreaking (e.g. no PVP) about this game. Torchlight has already incorporated many of the innovative ARPG concepts that made the Diablo 3 announcement so exciting back in 2008. Yup it has been 4 years already.
D3 will be perfect for a console. You literally can play the whole game with just a mouse. It is mindless hack & slash. Expect D3 to be on PS3 and XBOX within 12 months.
Too many barrels, urns, bookshelves etc. The amount of interactive junk in the dungeons almost seems silly. The only yield tiny amounts of gold so what is the point? I think they should reduce the amount of interactive junk and increase the potential for a drop so players don’t ignore it.
Barb was the most fun. The barb felt like an invincible cannonball--leaping into the fray and destroying everything in the way. For me at least, this seems like what a fast paced ARPG should feel like.
I Disagree with pretty much everything you say. I know its not very constructive but Im just throwing that out there.

Worthless rings.
I sport the +2-4, 6% MF or the +2-4, 5% AS.
While 5 dex may seem nice thats less than a 5% overall increase. attackspeed is an overall increase of damage, and +damage, but the actual % of increase is dependant on what your weapon damage and attack speed is.

I'm not sure if it's new or not, but I have noticed the vendor items seem to go up in value as you progress in the story.
I would actually prefer not to play in groups, at least for the first time through the game. I believe being in a group, not including with your friends, will lead to missing 90% of the story.
I feel the same. I tend to go really slow while playing games. I like to explore every nook and cranny, break averything that is breakable, do all the sidequests, read all the quests and books, watch the cutscenes etc. Groups usually just plow through the content too quickly to do that and if you take your time people get impatient. So my first playthrough will be solo and will take me a looong time. But I'm going to love every second of it:D

They are not at all worthless, they maybe in beta, but in live, they also increase Dodge chance which is a really nice thing to have.

With 4 players playing solo they also get 8 rare drops. Being in a group only changes how much hp monsters have, how much damage they take from the combined players per second, and being able to give each other items.

Crafting will not be the best source of gear - it is going to "fill in the gaps" inbetween the better items that you find. Which makes it pretty important to level in the early goings, I agree. But at some point you'll want the jeweler as well!

I disagree. Because normal is easy, you should use that time to experiment and try out every rune effect to get a feel for it. That way you don't have to do that in later modes where you have to be more optimized.

Except for, you know, all the game play. Monsters don't tend to sit around in packs and wait for you - half or more of the mobs you fight spring up from the environment and come at you from all directions. Monster behavior is far, far more complex. And almost no characters in D2 juggled between 6 active skills, most used 1, 2, or 3...play will be far more diverse and engaging. And since there's no longer any disencentives to play multiplayer, I think it will be a very different experience.

While barrels are kind of pointless, non-barrel destructables are shown to have quite a bit of gold in them (the average gold per non-barrel destructible is higher than it is per monster). I wouldn't be surprised if it is profitable to destroy the crypts, loose tiles, and other such things, provided they are not out of your way.
Barb was the most fun.

I'd rank the classes Monk > DH > Wizard > WD > Barb myself, but to each their own.
Interesting points. I hope that d3 doesn't get released on the current gen of consoles as that will really limit the game's shelf life (720/PS4 will be out soon - way before both expansions are complete). Also, I like the loads of interactive rocks, chests, urns, books, etc. in the dungeons. All you need is a basic AoE spell to farm it quickly - i.e 1 arcane orb can easily crack 10+ urns. I also disagree with your review predictions - there's no way gamespot will drop D3's rating below 9.0 *Squint* - it would be cool if they matched the highest PC review of alltime! Diablo - 9.6

Ok but if i have 3 other friends that are playing solo and I'm playing solo why am i not grouped with them. Odds are if you're playing solo you don't have that luxury. So IMO yes playing with a 4 person group will get you the gear quicker. I'm sorry if i misunderstood but i just don't get why 4 people who are friends and willing to give each other gear would play solo while others were on.
Odds of drops arn't greater in a multiplayer game? Ha, no reason to go multiplayer then unless you need help killing, which I find hard to believe in a solo game. Sure there is playing with friends, but farming wise I say a great solo player will kill faster and better then 4 decent people. All depends on how much tougher monsters get with increase of player though.
Barrels are not pointless whats so ever, they provide a nice gold inc if you destroy them all and later on they will start dropping some decent items, rares starting at about level 28 or so.

Well considering you don't have to single select the shit to break it anymore, there is little reason to not spam your spell at them every now and again.

I see barrels as almost equivalent to mobs. Some drop gold, some don't - most do however. Items from barrels aren't above and beyond but I have indeed gotten rare drops from them. And so have a few other people I've spoken to.

I disagree. I read Jay's post somewhere on the forum and he said that crafting will absolutely be the source of some of the best gear in game. He said he expects people in endgame having combination of dropped and crafted gear. So you will not get best gear for every single slot but you will get awesome items nonetheless. So ye - invest gold in artisans.

Blue quotes usually can't be taken that literally. They talk in generalities, and I would not interpret Jay to be saying that "some of your Best in Slot gear will be crafted".
Datamining shows us that the 2nd best item type in every category has crafting recipies that can drop for it - the second strongest helm, one handed sword, gloves, etc. etc. all have crafting recipies (that are probably pretty rare drops in their own rights). The highest quality type of each item does not have recipies for it, you can only get magic and rares of those items via drops.

Or let others do it and just buy them from the Auction House wars that will invariably happen between crafters does it sound viable?
The downside to it would be the randomness to it as well - you could have an unlucky week and not find a single good deal to get an upgrade to a shield or a helmet. But I trust in crafters, they'll do a good job
