The obvious reason to not have this ingame is that the minimap is not an actual object. If it was it would block a lot of screen space that won't be clickable. Also lots of accidental pings.
I particularly don't find pinging that needed to be honest.
Just make it an ALT+Click combo to ping.
OR...
How about you can't ping the minimap but you can on the fullscreen map? Are we all forgetting there's a giant map that we can bring up with tab? Being bale to ping that would be perfect and it's really not asking for much.
I'll add that to my list on the beta feedback forum of simple quality of life additions I want for the game.
BUT...
They can also hover over the blue dots to see the players name that said "hey, over here". They can also bring up the fullscreen map and look for which blue dot found the exit, which should be apparent really quickly without even hovering over the dots for the names.
I'm not saying this is a reason to not implement it, but it is a reason why it wouldn't matter too much if they didn't. If it would take them a few hours of coding to do, I would hope they would just do it, but it may be more than that and if it is I would rather them work on other stuff first.
If there is a fork in the road/dungeon and you go one way while people go the other, I believe the characters have a over here/follow me vocalisiation on the numpad

Yes but the sound level is directly related to how far away the person speaking is from you, and it drops rapidly. People 8 feet away cant hear you say "Time to Die"

It really works.
Player 1 - "TP to me. I found the boss."
Players 2/3/4 - Press T --> Click banner
Just make it an ALT+Click combo to ping.
