Versions of MMOs that didn't require huge numbers to interest people because the gameplay was actually exciting on it's own?
Heh, I was just teasing you for saying "it's so WoW" without any elaboration on what you mean by it. Putting it the way you do now makes for a better argument, although I can't really comment on whether I think it's true or not. I've played very little of the later versions of WoW where the stat numbers are high.
I come from a game that wasn't about high numbers and pleasing looks (this was the first mmo I played). To my knowledge WoW was the first game that really used huge numbers and other visually large looks. I just don't like to see mmo's these days feel like they need to live up to and be like WoW.

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
I rather have high numbers in inferno then low.
lets say u have 5k hp in inferno,
and u get some damage
i don't think would look awesome if there where damage hits like, 300-200-350-*700crit*.
like if u have a 30k, and monsters doing 1400-3000crit-1500-1450.
i think it looks better on a high difficulty, and feels better.
What constitutes "high numbers"? I've seen games where the numbers are ridiculously large, such as in the millions. Well, it wasn't easy to keep track of the amount of digits in a number, and it just cluttered the screen. So what did they do? They would shorten and round the number off from 2,385,212 into 2.4M.
Does that mean 2.4M is suddenly less awesome because the number is "smaller"or is it still way awesome because you know what the M stands for?
And because of that reason, they are scaling down all numbers in WoW (which is a good idea, I think).
Always fun when somebody makes a statement that's just 100% false. Blizzard actually confirmed quite a while ago that they will NOT be doing an "item squish" for MoP.
Uhm, well I'm not really following WoW, since I'm not playing it anymore (stopped like 2 years back).
Just something I've read long time ago.
Didn't think they would make a U-turn on it tho, seemed like a very good idea at the time.
well, that's kind of the problem isn't it? you commenting on things you don't know about? for example, you did it again here. they didn't "make a u-turn" on anything. they never said they were going to do it. they said that the huge numbers required to make cata level gear obsolete would cause damage numbers to be in the 100,000 range and that all those numbers on the screen brings up a design problem.
there was a huge developer diary which listed 3 ways they were considering to solve this flaw. one was the item "squish", another was to just change "120,000" to "120k" (this is the one they chose) and the third was to go back through all the items that existed in previous expansions and lower the stats on them.
no u-turns were made. no decision was made to turn away from. it's stuff like this that leads to ignorance, misinformation, people hating blizzard for no reason. just people being stupid in general. i'm not saying YOU are because you're not spouting off retarded shit that makes no sense, but some people do.
Right... numbers are meaningless unless you have something to compare them to. If you compare them to D2, they're large. If you compare them to some of the previously mentioned games, they're small.
Pretend to move a decimal place 3 or 6 digits to the left in your head if you have a problem
I believe after some time, the more experienced players will actually let go of the whole "number crunching", and even turn off player/monster health bars and damage taken/dealt numbers.
I'm hoping we're able to get the "feeling" of each item and of our character and enemies after a while to the point where stats being 2k or 20k not mattering.

Pretty sure numbers will always matter especially when Arena hits.

That is correct. However unfortunate, in my opinion. But I can understand why they wouldn't want to. They would have to rework EVERYTHING (caps lock is needed for emphasis). They would need to rework all old quests and items. All old dungeons and raids. Unless they want them completely unplayable.
And worse, 80% (random statistic) of their player base would threaten to quit because it "ruined the game."
(Or perhaps just 100 very vocal people making 40 threads each)
Enough of that, sorry.
Point is, I think blizzard understand they made a mistake having such huge gaps in gear to act as a reset in the beginning of each expansion. I don't think they will be doing anything quite as drastic in D3.
Not a huge fan of high numbers in stats. It's so WoW.
Nahhhhh no need to compare it to WoW
actually WoW started with reasonable numbers if you can remember but blizz obsession with inflation... you know the rest.
hope they dont inflate everything in D3!
Haha yup
