While I do agree that 4 sounds a bit more managable, I would have preferred at least the option of 5 or 6 players. At least 8 of my friends will be playing the game, which means some will be excluded most of the time. Still, I do understand their reasons for only allowing 4 players.
You know, Blizzard is still making and maintaining WoW if that's more your "cup-o-tea". 4 players should be fine. It'll be a nice break from the thousands standing around in Org and slowing the whole game down. Now we have nice little stable servers we can all party up in and enjoy.
yet PvP is somehow ok with 6+? Makes little sense, yea it can get chaotic, but it is no way unmanageable.
First, PvP is OK with maximum 4 vs 4 (not 6+ each team) because all you care about is the players, no mobs. You know who you fighting, where they come from, don't have to find them in a bunch of aurora effect. Besides, Number 4 is more of a strategical constraint to encouraging team work.
Second, you seem to assume "no way unmanageable" quite lightly. And you know, ASSume is making an "ASS" out of "u", and an ass out of "me"...
Peace.
Well considering I said 6+ in game and not 6+vs6+, you are ASSuming what I said, making an ASS outta yourself buddy.
Also you are telling me adding 1 more person to get a full cast would make it so unmanageable and unplayable but 4 won't? Yea you have to account for the mobs and the auras, but let's look at it this way: Are the monsters spamming spells like players? Youll see more chaotic shit happen in a 4v4(Better for you buddy?) then you would in a 4 player co-op match against biggest mobs in game I guarantee that.
Unless these monsters are spell slinging animation hogging special effect masters, it won't be unmanageable.
I'm fine with 4. Though, I will admit, my only disagreement with this is the fact you can't have all 5 classes in one game.
I mean, from a lore standpoint, if 5 heroes are working together to figure out what the hell is going on and ultimately bring down Diablo, why can they not all work together -- at the same time?
Understandably, 4 players max suits the game mechanics, but 5 would fit the lore better.
From the skill and gameplay mechanics 4 seems like the right numbers to avoid no1 understanding the amount of chaos on the screen. My issue is for trade and community purposes I would have liked a way to have more players in a single game without them fighting mobs. Like a lobby of some sort with a maximum population of 8 or whatever.
I'm super excited for this game and think it will be great, but it'd be even better if after release they could patch in an extra 2 players or so per game to make it 6, I think it would be the perfect number
I agree that 4 is too little, but I understand the arguments... Things get too messy with more characters, especially considering mob auto-level/difficulty...
However, my gripe is simple... I intend to host some LAN Parties, for this, and Borderlands 1/2, each of which has a 4 player limit, making having a 5th person show up rather awkward (though 6 isn't as bad with two groups of 3).

With more than 4 People you Would feel less important to the group as things Would die to fast, or you Would get 1-shot
Well 4 people makes you feel less important compared to 3, as things die faster with 4 over 3. Same logic can be applied to any number. Their only reason for making it 4 over anything else was cause everything else was chaotic, which to that I say 5 is not much more chaotic then 4.
My taste in coop games usually sits around 3 players best so I'm fine with 4.
More than 4 and I would feel it starts to just become a faceroll of spell effects. The video featuring 4 player coop in the end of act 1 (played by a DH) is the limit in my taste.
Anyway, people are more or less tolerant to the chaos implied by many players. If I feel the best at 3, for someone else it might be at 5... doesn't make any of us right.
I agree. I think they should keep the cap at 8, it seems like a downgrade from D2. :\ Why not allow 8 players and make monsters really tough? If one prefers a smaller party you can cap to game at whatever you like. I just don't understand (or even acknowledge) any rationale for 4 player max. That being said, I'm not too upset about it either - I will be playing a lot of solo.
Since they won't have PvP at release, 4 will be fine and will work well. If they actually had 3v3 PvP matches, 6 would have been possible under one condition. That condition being that they could have brought the camera further back and had more of the area visible to the player. It could have been a risk worth taking and we could have had much larger enemies or bosses to fight.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
Everyone seems to forget that the game which started it all...
Diablo 1 also only had 4 player spots. Although it was small it worked and it only had 3 classes.
I would of thought a minimum of 5(1 each class) would be the sweet spot for D3.
I copletely agree i think that 5 is THE SWEET spot i think having the option of atleast being able to have 1 of each class (even tho u might not) i think it would be the best out come to atleast have 5...6-8 is a little much but to me and all my friends playing 4 is way to many....even if so oculdnt we just have the option to put a max player on there like in d2 (even tho yes i kno this is D3)
I remember from D2, that there was never more than 3-4 players on my screen in 8player mode. Ever.
