I voted 1 to 2 months, mostly because of the reason that I know how I function by now.

I'd play day and night at the start, just to finish the game and see the story. Then I'll play a bit less, mostly do Nightmare with friends and a bit of Hell for the next few days. I know I won't finish Hell before I start creating new characters to give a try, while giving them items gathered and created by my main. From here on I'll be playing a lot less, mostly trying other stuff (very dependent on whether GW2 is out by then or not) and focusing on my priorities.

Slowly I'll still play my Wizard with friends, and some time after a month I'll lose interest in my other characters enough to do Inferno with my friends and finish it before 2 months. That's how I foresee it.

Anything thinking this game or it's difficulty is at all comparable to D1 or D2 is delusional.

As to the poll...no clue how long it'll take. I'd like to think at least a month.

Why does everyone forget about the random nature of Diablo?

If you do not get the drops... you do not have the gear... you do not progress.

I understand they made crafting to help supplement drops, but you will still need the materials to craft.

I think it will be a while before people have the gear to run Hell, let alone Inferno.

Right... but I feel like most people keep forgetting that this is a fresh game. People won't have "multiple armor sets." Those sort of things take time to acquire.

I say it will take me more than 3 months, mainly due to my bizarre work schedule and my kid. The other reason for > 3 months for me will be that I will probably want to try out another class once I beat Normal. I already plan on having 2 classes from the start though (1 for SP, 1 for MP).

If this game would have come out any earlier, I would have voted for a shorter time. Never would have thought I would be married and have a kid by the time this game gets released.

Hey bumping this poll because its relevant to latest news and I'm making a small note in the OP to remember Adon words. Don' take it badly btw ! I just think it's fun to see how it finally goes and if that much confidence pays in the end or not

I hope most of you people realize that the reason you could zoom through the levels in D2 was because extra players granted extra experience. Sometimes a lot, and if you had 5 to seven friends along with you, then it took about two days or less to blast through to hell.

Well, this isn't going to work in D3. You're always going to get the same amounts of experience, no matter if you're soloing or playing with three people. It's been said that unlike D2, extra players add no extra XP or improved item drops for you. So, if you've actually played D2 on your own, then you'd know how slow XP gain becomes on higher levels.
I'm using that as a measurement for progression through D3, not my experience of playing with friends.

Which is about at the end of hell...so I mean..

Not sure what your point is. It still only took 2 of soloing..

Alright, by hell it doesn't really matter, by then all XP is slow for anyone.
What I'm talking about is very early on. Go play D2 and activate players 8. It takes about four or five zombies to level. You can finish act one on almost level 30. Now imagine that with eight plus players running around. The XP gain while playing with friends in D2 was just off. I once finished Nightmare in about a day with five friends, was about level 60 by the end of it.

You can zoom through D2 in a group relatively easier than soloing. So far it sounds like they've taken that out of D3, and I really hope finishing content takes a lot longer than D2.

I'm sorry, but if you're saying you got to Hell, level eighty, on your own without using /players or any trick speed run methods, in less than two days, then you're making stuff up.

Probably somewhere around a month and a half to two months. At least lets hope it lasts that long.

So let me get this straight: since you never did it - it isn't true? Not quite. Did I say I did it on my first time? No - definitely not. After you learn the system - and you know that leaving town and re-entering refreshes the shops inventories - you can get any gear you're missing. You can also gamble. IF you knew what items were valuable, you'd be fine. Later on in LOD's life-time, they made hell a lot harder for every class due to synergies. I'm talking about 1.08 days - not 1.10-1.13 days. I wasn't a big fan of Diablo II once they introduced Enigma and the like.

Also: 2 days if 48 hours. 48 hours was plenty of time.

Edit: Also: It doesn't really matter to me if you believe me (lol). I'm stating what I know has happened. However; I'd like to add - since the boss mechanics in Diablo III will be significantly more complex - well - we shall see if it's even remotely close to the ease of Diablo II.

Well, that's the thing, D2 had a lot of tricks to make the process a lot simpler.
Yeah, I was sort of referring to the first run through, which was why I doubted you. The thread is about how long it take to finish in D3, and I think the first time will be a lot like its predecessor. In D2 things became simpler and easier over time, the game had a lot of kinks and methods to work the system to your favor.

I'm really hoping it doesn't become that way in D3. Like you said about the boss mechanics, and I'm hoping bosses get exponentially trickier with each successive difficulty. Also, they did say that Inferno will be almost impossible when you beat Hell, so you'll have to farm Hell in order to survive. I really hope it turns out that way, since that was not at all necessary in D2.

I really hope they add extra content for the difficulties, like Inferno or Hell specific boss abilities/events. That way you need to remain on your toes when you do Inferno or Hell, and not just reiterate same old tactics you've learned to perfect in Nightmare.

I pretty much agree with you 100%. I just think Diablo III won't be as hard since the ARPG genre has had a decade to grow and develop. We aren't the idiot noobs we were back then :).

Picking the longer time options does not make you a bad gamer, it shows your realistic and understanding what exactly the challenge is.

Actually, that's a good point. And considering the recent Blue post about "I'm aware of internal bets on how many months it will take someone to beat Inferno.", it has me re-guessing a bit...
