I keep seeing people mentioning 3:00AM as an EST or North American release time for May 15th; is this confirmed somewhere, or still just people speculating?

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
All we have to go by is Blizzard's website that says the game will go live at 12:00:01am PDT (pacific daylight time - not standard time). So that's as official as it gets thus far.
Thanks, I guess that explains why people are saying 3:00am for EST, which makes sense. I really just wanted to know if I could go get my CE at midnight without missing play time.

Bashiok has already stated they don't know yet what time the servers will be up. It's anyones guess right now.

Yes, as stated when you go into your account for when the game unlocks it states 12am PDT. Bashiok, while saying they aren't sure what time officially, for the moment, that time given on Battle.net is all we have to go by. Till stated otherwise.
So ... waiting 3 hours more would be imposible for you? Do you need to make a brand new topic just to ask this 1 simpl useless question?
Nope, I think you might have missed the point: I had been seeing 3:00AM quoted a lot as the EST release and I just wanted to confirm whether or not that was official or if we were really still in limbo on the time, which it appears we are. Simple. In fact, I wouldn't mind it being 3:00AM because then I could get my digital copy patched/installed while I go to the store for the CE, then home for a quick nap before hours of D3.

For the 100th time guys, the time listed in your battle.net page is when the DIGITAL PRE-RELEASE is active on your account. that has been 12:01 AM PST
However, even when the digital went at 12:01 AM PST servers still went up at 12:01 am EST for those that bought a physical copy in the East cost.
As it stands right now, noone knows what time we will be able to play (That is unless you bought digital, in which case, it does not matter when servers come up, you can't play till 12:01 AM PST)
I hope it won't be 3 AM EST - that means 9 AM GMT+1, the time zone where I find myself - picking up the game at midnight and going home to wait 9 HOURS to play would be cruel... just... cruel!
But yeah, to my knowledge: no official statement yet.
Actually, this would be perfect... Either get it at midnight, and sleep the average 8 hours... or wake up a few minutes early and go pick it up : )

So apparently if you buy a boxed copy you might be able to play 3 hours ahead of those that pre purchase? Thats a bit... disappointing.
If it was anything like Cataclysm they decided to launch it at 12PDT instead of EST so I imagine this will be the same meaning people on the East Coast won't be able to play till 3am aka 12PDT.

and Van -> wotlk was 12 EST
there is no way to know, they will tell us the second they know

I have a feeling it really depends on what they've decided to add for achievements and feats of strength around region/server firsts and whatnot. They may not even have made final decisions on achievements yet.
Really, we can speculate all we want, but I mean at the end of the day we're just going to have to wait to find out.
yeah IM trying to find the old old old old (a year later) old old old blue post they had about why they did 12 PST for cata, but im afraid it was done on the old wow forums and is lost forever
(but it should be quoted on mmo-champs front page for back then)
edit no its on the new ones, back in nov of that year... im closing in on it!
Well I searched a bit, but can't find it (Don't feel its important enouh to keep looking) but it could be more refined search than
but in the post I was looking for, they talked about why they made the change to PST. The reason they gave, im pretty sure would not reflect any reasons they would need to do such a thing for d3.
Time will tell, I just hope sooner than later they let us know

yes I'm aware that each one was mostly different, either way its a toss up, I wasn't saying its going to be like that, the magic IF word

Pretty much this!
Be patient, guys.
