Another thing to keep in mind is- SK isn't the boss of Act 1. He's a mini boss, a stepping stone, he isn't intended to make people weep. Especially not on normal. As it was stated, normal is the introduction to the game. Is it intended to be boringly easy for every player? Probably not, but it's only a fraction of the first Act out of 4. The beta is not what you should judge the difficulty by. Wait until retail.
Why would anyone even care how easy norm or even nm is? Its such a small part of the game that its insignificant to any dedicated fan or gamer. It doesn't hurt anyone if these two difficulties within the game are too easy for hardcore gamers.

As i'm pointing out it simply won't it's perfectly acceptable as it is. It was far too easy before and now it's just right, honestly i'd prefer it a little harder, the game doesn't at all feel like a challenge right now, if you've played any of the original games in the series you will know how much harder they were than what Diablo 3 is at the moment.
Its not supposed to be a challenge at all, its a tutorial.
All you goofs think the game is not challenging, because most of the time you play is after you do the 1st playthrough.
You either need to look at this situation relative to grandma or not all all. Unless you are an old woman, or a complete and utter noob, then there is no point in explaining how easy you take out the beta. Especially when the that conclusion is derived from your vast experience past level 8.
also that video you linked. the guy is hitting for 12-18 dmg on crits, i.e. he basically has no good gear at all, probably a 6-7 dps weapon. If you take for example an average character, most of my own chars have around 50-60 of their class stat and have no problem with SK. Pretty much all the people i've played with have no problems either xD
Yah that is the whole damn point!!! That is the state of your character when you play the game on release and reach the SK. Once you get to 13 you won't be farming the SK on a twinked toon, as that would be utterly retarded.
What would be the point in looking at your twinked 13 character? None, its pointless!
It might be likely that they'll keep this difficulty. There was a thread on the official forums a while back in which Kavix said:
"The enemies are indeed a bit more difficult in Normal difficulty now.
It looks like the responses in this thread are unanimously in-favor."
Source: http://us.battle.net...93475?page=3#57
So if the response is generally in-favor, they're not likely to change it back in my opinion.
Of course they are in favor, they are in the beta. I prefer it as well on the beta, its just when it goes live that it no longer makes any sense.
I will be on normal for maybe 12 hours, so I don't care if its really easy. At that point in the game I am not looking for a hardcore challenge, and I don't want other gamers to get discouraged either. I will likely be playing this game for months, if not years to come, who gives a shit about how easy the 1st12 hours is?

Would you care to explain your reasoning for this? I fail to see how their participation in the beta automatically makes them prefer a harder difficulty.

#1 its been out for months and months now. Ive played off and on since like patch 8, and after a couple weeks it was hard for me to find the motivation to even play. However, I played patch 14 pretty thoroughly when it came out.
#2 They want a challenge. The old beta was a true tutorial, where you never had to kite or use defenses. The current beta, during your 1st play-through, is more like something I would expect for NM.
#3 Just by being in the beta you know they are likely Diablo fans, and gamers. Their average skill is going to be far higher than the avg skill of the playerbase on launch.

The beta is never hard enough. Only for the first few levels was I taking damage. And I must say, when it was hard in the first part of the beta is when I was having most fun. As I was running for my life and struggling just to take down some Wretched Mothers, it was the first time I actually said to myself, "Hey, this game...is actually kind of fun!"
But it quickly gets boring when you reach about level 5 and you're already easily overpowering everything. And you should be running out of resources earlier on in the game cause this is what's making it challenging.
Mana (or whatever resources) should never be so plentiful that we can just lean on the right clicker. Mana in the Diablo universe should be something considered rare and precious yet powerful. Otherwise the game really does feel like WoW where magic is everywhere and there's like magical global warming cause there's so much freaking magic in the air and everything glitters and there are light tracers on every single movement. Is anyone feeling me on this?

You should play the wizard then. Three orbs and your done, then you have to wait a full 10 seconds to get your AP back to full.
The wizard, who is supposed to be the glass cannon, is so gimp in patch 15 that it takes 2 shots to kill a weak ass skeleton on normal! That's right, 70% of your resource system to kill 1 lame ass skeleton. Idk, that is kinda funny to me.
Also WTF are you talking about? You simply spammed mana potions whenever you needed mana. Usually you found enough on the ground to ensure you had shitloads of mana, and in the later patches of the game you could even buy them. Hell the maphack addon even used to use the potions for you when needed.

I'll admit I play that class less than the others. But casters typically seem to be at that disadvantage early on in the game. Serves them right for all their laziness anyway. Just holding down the right-click and never having to aim, plus teleporting everywhere cause they're too goddamn lazy to use their legs.
I did my first playthrough on patch 15 today, and I got to say it seems way too hard for normal. I played on a wizard, and depsite having amazing luck with weapons it was still far more of a challenge than it should have been. It was taking 2 arcane orbs just to kill a skeleton. Thats right, a weak pathetic skeleton took 2 shots from an ability that costs 1/3 of my bar! Any time I came across a pack of elites I had to use frost nova and actually kite.
Blizzard announced that the 1st part of this game was supposed to be so easy to play that your grandmother could do it. That is simply not the case for most grandmas, as only amazing grandmas could possibly handle this shit!
This leads me to believe that the current beta has just been tweaked for those people playing beta to give them somewhat more of a challenge.
Catering to the lowest common denominator was what destroyed WoW.
Some of you argue that noobs lose interest if they die once or twice in the first 13 levels. I say it's totally the opposite: noobs lose interest in the game if it is too easy, just like the veteran players do.
I actually let a few friends play beta on my account when they were visiting my place. Their interest in gaming is usually limited to Angry Birds and the like, but still after 10min they complained the game was too easy and thus felt boring and pointless. This was before the mob damage buffs.
Casuals are NOT afraid of challenging difficulty. Easy game doesn't necessarily translate to good game for the casual audience. Blizzard should really get this in their heads, and right now in Diablo 3's case it seems they have.
Pretty much this. I don't understand why people assume that if someone is new to a game that if they aren't instantly gratified they will lose interest right away. People like challenges, they aren't going to drop it if they die a couple of times, and they will learn quick. They learn by putting them into the situations that require some form of thought, not by letting them face roll through normal. I think more people would end leaving a game that they don't need to do anything but hold an attack button down, instead of one that makes them think just a bit at the start of the game. I think I can safely say that I and many other people got into games that weren't incredibly easy, who's to say people who play games now wouldn't do the same.
I must say, the beta is almost perfectly tuned. Personally, I would have it be a tiny bit harder, but it is still really solid at its current state. This is an introduction to the game and its core mechanics. It is not meant to be challenging or stressful on the new players. It certainly is not meant to be a place for you to die at over and over again.
But still, it requires a certain amount of skill on your first playthrough, when your level matches that of the monsters and you're not decked in overpowered crafted gear. There are a few interesting elites with tricky affixes that can make for a fun time, and you will sometimes find yourself running away, waiting for a cooldown on your potion, or mana to regenerate.
And then, when you're facing Skeleton King on level 8-9, it most certainly provides you with some sort of a challenge. The guy has a couple of basic combat mechanics, a lot of hit points and can hit pretty hard on a low armored character. A pretty solid way to end the starting part of the game.
All these things may seem a bit too easy for many of us here who have spent countless hours slashing and clicking away in Diablo/Diablo II/other rip-offs and can't possibly die in the beta, but there are a lot more people who will be trying this kind of game for the first time, and introducing them to the style and the way the game is played is of great importance to Blizzard.
If this difficulty continues to increase exponentially as the acts unfold, and the main bosses are done right, I cannot guarantee a death-free pass on the first playthrough through the normal mode for myself. Which I find really exciting.

Everyone keeps talking about themselves....unless you are a 60 year old woman, that seems rather dumb. You need to think relative to other people. It should not take 2-3 minutes to kill the SK on normal, that's absurd.
Heck this place is insanely bias, yet half the people in the poll agree its too hard for the noobs. Also why do you guys even care how easy normal will be? We are talking 12 hours out of months or even years of playtime....

played through with a lot of hardcore characters now and didn't experience that much difficulty..
Only every once and a while in a full game, I am alone, and encounter a group of Elites, or fighting the SK do I feel a little bit poised to click my Potion Key (Q) but other than that.. I cannot relate to you in the slightest...
Everyone says wait till Inferno. I hope it gets much harder even in normal.

Besides I think we can all agree when I, and others, are saying "Just wait until Inferno" we're simply meaning, hey'a think beta be hard! can you imagine that Inferna! I hear that's a doozY! Of course this is all speculation but you get the point

I disagree this is "too hard" but Blizzard will probably make it stupid again anyways.
The game is easy because all you need to do is move back while shooting and you get out of every situation.
