Diablo is not going to kill wow, but its going to take allot of its wow subscribers (witch blizzard dont want coz its there main income that why the annual pass was a good move from blizzard.
Thing is blizzard makes awesome games and they make it so you keep playing it long after release! Where allot of the other big names failed to do !
WoW going to die slowly after Diablo release. AND THEN the new mmo will stick its head out !
Well blizzard owns both so it's a win win situation! but Diablo is more fast paced than wow so those who wish to take the fast lane will do so and those who like to move at their own pace will probably play WoW, or both!

"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
My competitive gaming career started with blizzard games and obviously i got really attached to all their games, starting with vikings, warcraft2,sc,diablo1&2(this is what i played,i know there are more). WoW eliminated Diablo2 and Warcraft3 from my life when it came up as a brand new game. And yes Sc2 and Diablo3 are now taking over WoW.
This time though , as i grew up and I earned my game/life experience, i can see how Diablo3 and Sc2 have several new reasons above being a newer generation games.Behind the addictive characteristics of all 3 which still has a great influence to real life, Sc2 and Diablo3 won't keep you 3hours+ 3+ nights bound to keyboard to experience it's highest quality content(10 or 25men raids). Therefore Diablo3 will probably be my new drug for my free time while i can still alt f4 at any moment and fix my rl without having remorse upon leaving my friends unlike WoW
That pretty much sums up why I look forward to D3.
What is awesome about Blizzard "ppl don't remember that the game was late but that the game is awesome" lucky blizzard have to money to run this beta and test stuff and see if it works or now, where other games cant really do it properly.
That is why WoW and Starcraft and warcraft all that games still get played today !
I strongly believe that WoW and Diablo have different core player bases... Yes a fair amount of Diablo players also play WoW but to say that when released, Diablo 3 will mean the end of WoW I think is great exaggeration! They say that every high profile MMO or RPG game when they come out will kill WoW. WoW is still around and unless Blizzard pulls the plug on their servers, it will still be here for a few years more. Even if Blizzard released another MMO in, say, the Starcraft universe, WoW would still remain. Finally, I think that the product which has the most potential to break or reinvigorate WoW is it's own upcoming expansion...
Saying Diablo is the WoW killer is like saying if Honda puts out an awesome new SUV, than people will stop buying civics. Diablo isn't the same game as WoW, at all.
People throw around this " WoW killer " mantra, way too much. The only game that is going to affect WoW's subscriptions, is WoW. If it's good, people will play it. If it gets boring and tedious, people will stop.
The game play is so different that I don't think D3 and WoW will compete head to head necessarily. I have to say that I know a number of people who play WoW who are now dabbling in SWTOR. I don't think all of these people will keep both subscriptions active. I think SWTOR may be a bigger threat to WoW's numbers than D3.
Everquest still continues to cripple along 13 years after it's initial release. It has dedicated fans that keep playing (and paying a subscription) every month...even after countless other viable options have come and gone. It will have dedicated players up until the day Sony decides it's not profitable to run anymore.
WoW has a vastly larger playerbase now (arguably in it's decline) than Everquest had at it's peak. Don't be surprised to see it chug along even after Titan is released. I'm not expecting WoW to go anywhere anytime soon. Some people will leave to play Diablo. Some will go for Guild Wars 2. Some will go to TERA. Many will come back, and many will not. The new expansion will bring some older players back for a bit, while a few newbies will jump on the bus.
Personally I stopped playing WoW at the end of last August. My sub is still open, but I can't find the motivation to go back into it...and I quickly get bored if I do. No telling what the future holds for me with that game...the content just trickles in too slowly to satisfy me and I'm bored with the whole thing. Even when I was playing though...Diablo was calling me. Many WoW friends quit the game, and some will come to D3 (as well as some IRL friends who never played WoW, but love Diablo). Along with the great community here...I expect Diablo 3's full release will finish my WoW cravings.
It doesn't require you to sign over half your week away just to get ahead. That's the key thing for me. I can jump in and play with some people and get something done. So I get my social RPG cravings without needing to treat it like a second job. Win-win IMO.

This is definitely a good point and I hadn't realized it.
The newer generation Blizzard titles seem to be lacking that addictive quality that their older games are famous (or infamous) for.
This can go either of two ways.
1. People will get burned out on the new games and not go back to the old games because the new ones drew away from the old so much.
2. People go back to the older, more addictive games after completing and doing their favorite things in the more recent titles.
WoW is most likely going to continue having that addictive feel for a time longer even with new expansions that steer it in a non-addictive direction. I feel this is why there are still so many WoW players.
As stated before the WoW killer will be WoW. You can't make a game go on forever; I don't bother with any of those MMO's because it’s just like WoW except a different theme. Until a company creates a drastically new MMO model and has the capacity to support millions of players, no single game will kill WoW (maybe many )

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I like how when people make a topic others don't agree with they just come in and claim it's trolling. How mature. Feels like the official Blizzard forums. That's not a compliment either.
Im planning to quit wow cause of long time playing , and also cause of the shitty new expansions, i will focus playing on diablo. But diablo 3 will not be a wow killer cause they are two different kind of games and people if play wow they will still be playing diablo.Only wow killer can be itself as stated before, not diablo not swtor not anyother game.
I have been playing wow since Vanilla but its starting to fade on allot of ppl most of the ppl in my guild are waiting for Diablo3 and dont really care for new expantion that is coming out.
We have had all this other games likje swor and rift etc, that claimed they going to be wow killers.
Do you ppl think Diablo can end wow and thats why blizzard made the wow annual pass ?
Diablo 3 is not AN MMORPG wish some people would understand this.
bad troll attempt.
This is not a troll attempt most of the WoW fans comes from warcraft starcraft diablo. There was never said that diablo is MMORPG, for me all blizzard games are awesome and if im going to have more fun in diablo3 for 1 - 3 hrs a day after work, then il drop my wow subscription and play a game that you on have to pay for ones, i think large number of wow players is going to go down that path.
Just the fact that blizzard brought in the annual pass means they also had a sit down and talked about ways how they going to get the wow players to play diablo but still pay for there wow

These discussions are so pointless
