Writing to discuss some thoughts in how Diablo Fans are running their beta key contests, specifically their Facebook contest. We all totally understand that the beta key contest in Facebook are for exposure...which is great! However, I think the method of "first 5 correct responses" is not a good tactic and wanted to discuss this with the community.
Here are my thoughts, first 5 correct responses require people to stalk Diablo Fan's Facebook page for even the slightest chance to find the contest post within the MINUTE...and then forces people to either COPY/PASTE the correct answer if it is a long answer. Just now, I was within 5 minutes of the contest post, and there was already 350 posts. This reminds me of the radio show contests of spam calling and getting the busy signal...its utter disappointment.
Here is my solution...because we all have real jobs or students and don't have the time to stalk Facebook...instead of the first 5 correct responses, how about (1) designate a time period aka within the first 12 hours and (2) randomly pick within those correct responses and time frame.
I think the general community would SUPPORT this idea and for those people who don't know the answers...make them look it up...hey lets get people interested in the diablo craze! What do you think?
P.S. Bummer, I couldn't make a poll cuz the options are bugged...maybe if we could get a poll!
I agree with this. Being the first to reply in a situation like this is nearly impossible. Why not even the playing field for all the dedicated fans and provide a time window where people can submit their responses and have a chance at random selection? We all know everyone wants a key - but the question is, is the deciding factor really going to be who can spam the "Submit" button the fastest?
Definitely have to agree with this. I don't even bother to try with the facebook and twitter contests. I can't sit at the computer all day long hitting refresh on the Diablofans facebook page just to hope that I'll submit my answer first. Everytime I've noticed they posted another question, its been at least 30 minutes since they have posted it. Although I really wish Blizzard would just do an open beta for a few weeks before the release.
Was just browsing a few posts in the general topics and saw a bunch of complaints...hey YOU GUEST readers...thats right the LURKER...I encourage you to make an account and post your thoughts...you might win a beta key via the diablo fans forum contest!
I strongly agree they need to change the method. "First 5" will never be really fair because:
1-Latency and computer speed will affect your chance to get the answer in time
2-I seriously doubt Facebook's back end architecture supports the kind of precision needed for this type of contests. I guarantee some people who happen to be connected to Facebook's server XXX will get the post a couple of seconds before someone on server YYY.
Diablo Fans: please take a look at this considerations, make the contest fairer for everyone: Ask harder questions, and give a time frame (5 minutes~ish would work even!) in which you pick 5 random people who answered correctly.
This idea is good. I'm another one of the people who never even bothers with it, there's already at least 100 comments by the time I see the question.
I've got class all of most days and study when I'm not there.
While it's true there are a lot of other contests, this one definitely forces people to sit on Facebook staring at the Diablofans page. That might be ok for people who have absolutely no life prospects but the rest of us don't have a shot.

The Facebook contest is ridiculous. It's more of a right place at the right time contest rather than a test of knowledge. If they really want to reward people for being able to type and react quickly to a post, why not do it in large amounts.. instead of the first 5 people, when 98% of the posters will already be too late, make a bigger give away where the first 20 people or hell even the first 50 people get a key.
Sure, you'd have these random posts less often, but let's face it, most of us normal people can't be watching it all day, and only even happen upon a fresh post every couple days anyway.
I agree. I'm not really actively trying for any of the give aways. (Other than ones without the need of much effort like posting on forums) But some of the people I've seen it's just insane. People losing sleep and stopping all aspects of life just for the off chance they get lucky? We all know how some gamers can get and it's not healthy and yet another example of why media and other people "look down" on gamers. The sheer fact a gaming website is supporting that exact same kind of behavior is poor form. Just set a time that you'll ask the question. Give a time frame for people to answer and pick randomly.
Is it true that the first 5 people win? I've was in the top 5 on one and didn't win. Plus it takes them some time before they post the winnders. I know I read that the first 5 with the right answer gets the key but EVERY time they tweeted a question the top 5 correct answers (atleast what I seen on my phone) did not receive a key. Diablofans can we get a confirmation?

That is actually a pretty good idea. That should be their last two 'big batches'.
What would be cool is to ask a hard question that is difficult to google quickly . Something only a dedicated Diablo player would know off by heart (and thus have a chance to answer before the mob). My Diablo knowledge is limited to say the least and I would get crushed, but it would be cooler to see them go to people who care about the game enough to know their shit.
I will even give possible questions: "What do you need to reach the cow level?" or "What weapon did you receive from Griswold?"
Well all the competitions is just based on luck anyways, so when u press that F5 only luck will tell if u end up getting the question uploaded.
I disagree with that. People who win this keys are either constantly refreshing the page, or using a bot / script / addon to get the prompt to answer as fast as possible. Once a few seconds have passed after the question is posted, its over.
Last night it took me less than 10 seconds to respond, and I ended up like 21st.

And that's a hard question only to be known by a dedicated player?
I thought that's like common knowledge. ;-)
