For all of those lucky enough to win any of the recent contests beta keys, or have already been able to have at the Beta in any of the patch cycles
Would an Open Beta ruin your excitement of winning that competition??
I'm thinking, If I did win any of them, which I have not unfortunately, but if I did, then every one got in, I wouldn't feel as happy... the exlusiveness (stress testing aside) makes the beta more enjoyable to those who have it and more desired to those who don't

Why an OB should ruin my excitement? I mean, I'm sure that huge % of the ppl that will eventually play through this OB are real fans and will be buying the game. I'll be happy for every true fan that gets a chance to play the beta. ^^
Personnally, if I had the chance to win a beta access, and then a public beta would be announced, I couldn't care less.
The only thing that counts is that you can enjoy a part of the game.
We all know how hard it is to get in, and we all want so hard to get in (hum... in the game I mean :x) so why would it be less enjoyable to have more fellows able to enjoy the game aswell ?
The only thing I care about is getting a taste of the game. I don't really care how many other individuals are playing it at the same time. I would still be just as excited for the release.
Well, an open beta would ruin the joy for alot of people in the sense that the server wont be able to keep up i think. Constant crashing would render it inplayable i think. Tho disregarding that, i dont think any1 would mind if every1 got an equal chance to be trying out the beta. I do think that people shouldnt be too afraid of not getting in the beta. You're not missing _that_ much really.
I think you are missing the ability to have an idea of what you want going into launch, which is huge
say for example I am going for a world first level 60 over all... if I have months to practice and experiment each character in beta, upon release I will know one character is the best for me to level up fastest and do well in what you can speculate will do well later on in the game.... not having a beta you are going in cold, and trying characters is a huge sacrifice in time that you miss out...
This example may be extreme, but take this less extreme level, for the average player.. if you know what 1 class you like from beta you can play it right at launch and not feel left out not trying the other classes, because you have already been able to level them from 1-13 in several different patches..
More relevant is for the RMA if I have an idea of the best or my favorite class I get left behind less in the race to get good gear while it is still of high value, or before value or specific affixes is known
ALL THAT BEING SAID
my original post about OB ruining the enjoyment is kind of like an aww bummer I was all excited now me winning isn't special... don't get me wrong, any chance at a beta I am going to love and play to the death
I would say playing the Beta my make me less excited about Act-1 if I were to play but to excitment grows for the rest of A-1 and soforth A-2 thru A-4 =D and then the other modes of course. So kind of not in the same way.
I doubt Blizzard would do an open beta since they'd have to build around 300-400 test servers for that. They can just test a few test servers with opt-ins. They probably already know what to expect in release from WoW, and after they make sure how many people their servers can serve etc, how to configure it best etc this beta(opt ins) would also end.
I'm also pretty sure they are doing these fansite giveaways to increase the hype, advertize their product, and silence the whining people in their servers.
I doubt that there'd be an open beta, but even if there were, it wouldn't really affect my personal excitement. After all, it's still going to be the same content and I'll be running through it solo either way. At most, I'll do the multiplayer version with a couple of friends, but my experience isn't going to be very different even if it were an open beta.
It would be really cool to actually win one of the contests or the opt in... but Blizz wont do an open beta not sure if they could handle it at this point. It would be nice to get in though, because I don't think I will win a key from any contest. Hoping the release is within the next couple months so I don't have to worry about the beta and dive into release with everyone else.
Putting the feeling of exclusiveness aside (though I don't have a beta key so I don't know how it feels lol) for me it would mostly be the bloody constant stories about Diablo 3 beta that people rage on about (people I know are annoying like that). Not to mention every man and his dog will have a photo up of themselves on the beta up on bloody Facebook!
Apart form that it wouldn't really bother me that much.......*twitch*

Without braggin, it DOES feel awesome to play a beta that everyone wants =) But that's not the reason I'm against an open beta. It's the fact that this should really be called closed alpha or something more akin to that. Almost every game that does a beta, does it for testing but also for publicity. They know people that play the beta will report on it, and give their likes / dislikes. Them keeping it closed defiantly sends the message it's only for testing, not for advertising purposes. If they went to open, the majority of players (who don't follow D3 very closely at all) will rage at how short it is / lack of content and all that jazz. It's just better PR to keep it closed.
an open beta would put too much of a stress on their severs. as much as i would love to play it, beta is meant for ppl to help blizzard work out final buggs that you can never fix without mass player based testing. haveing everyone play it would just overload everything and not let what needs to be done get done.

A stress test like what SWTOR did would be nice. This would see how well the BNet would handle in people as well. I understand that people that play WoW and SC will be playing this, but some of the people that left for other places will be logging back on BNet for this game. I am sure they have thought of this, but lets face it Blizzard and the track record of patches is lacking.
If they do it I am for it, but I can wait for the release date of 4/3/2019 to play it. =)
Blizzard has the server capacity to handle an open beta, they'll need it when they release the game after all. But I don't think they're interested in spending the money to run the servers simply to satiate peoples desire to play before release.
Tried a few methods to get a key but to no avail till now never much a lucky person so meh...
So a open beta might be the best recourse for me. Pretty much straight i wont be disappointed.
Like Laevus mentioned but a open BETA will make the fans whom really tried every method whom got it 1 week before OPEN feels cheated.
But Blizzard at this point of time would have a general idea how much servers they need and stuffs after the one yr WOW pass sale and SC2 sales figures. That should not be the major stumbling block.
My personal wish list will be the Demo/Open version be ready from the announcnement date for release till 1 week before official launch.
They could make something like a open beta with short time acess. Every battelnet account who wants to have a beta key gets one for ine day. Then they could controll the stress on the server and everyone could play. I think that would be the best way to do it.
PS: You can make more then one account but you would always have to start over so that wouldn't make sense for me.
I think open beta would be a good idea if the servers could handle it but i doubt it could. Not right to break the game for all the people that have got a beta key so far. I'm not in beta but that's just how I feel. They will be releasing more and more keys as time goes by and stress testing the servers at a pace they think they can keep up. Only thing one can do is to sit back and hope they are lucky.
