they have tested this game so far and if jay says runestone does have issues, it's understandable.
but why it took so long to come up with such a simple solution..? to be honest i expected something more fancy
certainly i'll miss two thing: hunt for that rare stone and having to make a choice which skill to place a runestone into when you find a high ranked one. i feel like they are making this game too easy.
really looking forward to item affixes that augment specific skills, hope it worth it to destroy one of game's main system

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.
The game feels more stable across the board to me in beta 13. I have a perty high end brand new system, and that tiny stuttering I got loading in new effects some times is gone.
That should be your sig, because that's all you do in every post you make. As much as I want to participate in Diablofans's culture, there are a lot of similar people like this that are making it unbearable to visit. I really like the changes so far. I hated the idea that I have to farm for weeks to get my skills work the way I want them to work. It would be almost impossible to build the HC characters the way you want to build.
Also this way, we still get a "reward" for leveling up after level 30. Although getting to wear new items after leveling up is a nice enough reward, getting a new skill rune is much bigger reward.
These changes look amazing. I think it'll really help casual and/or new players to get a better handle on the large mix of skills and runes, while elective mode will allow long-time Diablo enthusiasts to play just the way they want to. Fantastic reworking, if you ask me!

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
Also can I change my "rune" selection or is it permanent? Please please please god make it permanent.
If it was not permanent it would be hardly selection and it would be no point to select it. They would just select it for you and you would probably have to go and change the selection if you'd like. So I say it's permanent.

And it's this kind of disgusting attitude that was the reason i took so long to post on the forums.
The new changes, are fantastic. Not only does it gives players a reason to keep playing beyond level 30, it gives the comunity a boost considering you're going to need to group up during the later difficulty levels. This also means with more people playing, more items drop and there's more items listed on the RMAH.
Why would you want to stop anyone, from playing a game with you? If you dont think they're "good" enough to play with you, teach them to play better. If they won't listen, find someone else to play with. To be honest, i'd sooner play with someone that has downs, than someone that wants to exclude everyone bar clones of themselves from playing the game.
Diablo 3 is rated 18. It's not going to attract the same kind of crowd that plays World of Warcraft, from a game play and age perspective. The more people playing the game, the better and the easier it is to get people playing the game, the better.

I like that they're tied in now and the cleaning up of the deadzone... but yeah the fact we get them automatically seems too easymode? No reason to use the original ability almost lol.
As far as Crimson runestone usually gives just more power to the skill there is no point to use original ability anyway, not even with system from before as most low lvl runes were easy to find (I think). But as Crimson seems like more power on low difficulty levels I think they usually introduce some subtle changes like more power but slightly less knock-back (for example) which may be important in inferno. But well, I don't think they really intended for us to use original skills anyway.
Im so excited with this change/overhaul to the rune system. Not only does it increase the flow in the game, but it makes it less of a grind to get that specific rune you allways wanted.
I also think that the average player can now save a couple of bucks from the RMAH buying runes, and now have the oppurtunity to buy awsome looking gear instead ^^
1.- The objective of runes its to customize your char.
2.- Everyone should have a way to customize their abilities.
3.- Farming runes for an upgrade its the same as farming gear.
Its now done, so lets enjoy it.
Couldn't have said it better. In the old system, it's like that stupid meme "I heard you like grinding, so i put some grinding in your grinding while you grind!". Does it matter that a boring grind has been removed. It's great! Fair enough, the down side is that you can't choose at what level to socket those runes, but now it's all about the gear and demon slaying, not about trying to improove your skills with a rune that makes it do 1% more damage and only has a 1% drop rate.

Well, read this today, after seeing a video from Force on the youtube, and think its pretty good what they did, some people are complaining that there will be less items to drop so the game will end faster but sincerily for me who played D2 i don'tthink farming runes it's a good thing... never was... and this is a huge step forward to the release it's a solid system now now do think their biggest problem are the stats of items that changed with their last system change announcement and hopethe game is release soon(TM) .
Funny is that now every lvl 60 class will be copy pasted since you can repick skills anytime (correct me if i`m mistaken), like now your a whirlwind barb after 2 min your a trowing axe build lol.
I don`t know hard choices made you think before you act, this way you don`t care at all its not like its permanent feels stupid and super casual.
Oh, maybe on normal level but not later. Say you have an armor which gives you + 10 to leap attack or + 10 to knockback. Now you change your leap to some close range melee attack and watch all your + attributes being useless or undesired. Unless you are going to keep all the different armor sets in your personal inventory (not stash) you won't have that much choice in changing skills during gameplay. I say it will just let you change some skills when you well know that you are approaching boss so you can make him more manageable by putting some defensive and single target skills on. It will be also useful when some horrible elite attacks you for whom you are not prepared (some immunity). But just it skill change won't make your uber melee barb into uber axe thrower cannon without proper gear in backpack
yea, except for gear every lvl 60 of the same class will be exactly the same now...
dooh, if you are going to copy your m8s play style then yes. Though I wonder if you'd like it much. Not everybody can use meteor same well, some of us rather put hydras on and run around happily
While it solves a lot of problems, makes a tad bit more sense, and overall is a welcome change, I can't help to shed a tear for losing all the ranks. It all comes down to items now. I was hoping they'd improve on the gems a bit too, sadly, I find them slightly dull.
KSS keep it simple stupid. I know many people just call that dumbing it down however I feel that it was probably what was needed. 3000 rune variants, and how rare a level 7 rune was going to be is just absurd. There needs to be a grind for gear however there does also need to be a limit. I really liked their 1st system, I hated their 2nd system so this is probably a good middle man.
Hopefully were now in the polishing stage full time and we cant start to see signs of release. rock on.

Customization means making choices in order to make your char play/feel/look unique. With this system there is no element of choice. You get 5 runes in, if you dont like them you instantly swap it. There is no drawbacks or penalties for changing runed skills like gloves. You get new piece of gear? You look on stats, compare to what you have, decide weather it is worth to change current item on new one. You evaluate your profit from this new item, and that what makes process feel nice. With old rune system getting rune meaned you should have though about which skill to improve first, and which upgrade later, with next drop. The feeling of hard decisions is totally gone.
And on top of that... Blizzard made 10 or something charecter slots on 1 battlenet account. Please... Who needs to level more than 1 char of each class with this skill system? Yes, D2 days are gone, its no longer possible to make games so brutal towards mass audience. Choosing 1 build, and having no or very little space to actually respec is no longer a viable disign choice. With old rune system you could've atleast make a good build with top tier runes and leave it that way, level up new char and get different build with top tier runes to try out, without loosing the first one. Now every single char of same class at lvl 60 is absolutely same to any other char of same class at lvl 60 (apart from gear ofcourse). Thats what u call customization? T'is an epic fail my friend.
@leonx i think they have added things to balance the loss of all those things remember that they increased the number of item types the character can wear ie shoulder and arm guards. The addition of artisans and crafting i think makes up for runewords because you'll be able to craft unique stuff. For me I think its enough, jewels and runewords were cool but I'd rather have the crafting element. I always felt charms were cheap and hated the space in my inventory being taken up with them, I'd much rather have more armor parts to play with, stuff that changes the look of my character not just the stat boost. Im happy with it, now i just want to get lucky and snag a beta so i can take the edge off before the release...
The potential feature thing which I liked before was that blizzard could add some rune stones after game release which would change some skills completely or that they could add some legendary rune skills. Or even rune skills with limited number of uses for the skill they were put to after which they would break but they would be very powerful while they lasted. Now none of these will be possible but possible variations of this may (but no legendary type of skill runes for sure).
Now every single char of same class at lvl 60 is absolutely same to any other char of same class at lvl 60 (apart from gear ofcourse). Thats what u call customization? T'is an epic fail my friend.
And what's wrong with that? That means that you don't waste time leveling up a new Barbarian, because you want to try an AOE heavy spec but currently your skills have runes that improve single target damage.
You'd sooner have to grind out and replace your runes, every time you wanted to try another spec? Why would you want to keep doing something not quite as fun (leveling up a new character thought content you've already seen), when you could be having MORE fun just changing spec and grinding out gear?
There's still nothing stopping you from doing this though, you could level up two of the same class and have them with different skill/rune sets. All it means now is that you only really need to level 1 of each class. How is that a bad thing?

Good call from blizz to remove the skills as items. I can see the tedious task of creating all those items and maintaining them with all nerf / upgrades they will have. This should also speed up the release so we can all play faster !!
