I really disagree with the people who are calling the look of the game 'cartoony'. It's a very painterly style, and I love it! Messing with the filters just makes the artists cry :(. I'm such a huge fan of Diablo 3's art direction. It's painterly, yes, but it's also subtle, the colours are often quite muted, and it's fantastic for conveying atmosphere beyond generic 'dark', which is how that filter makes all areas in the game look.
I'm with this guy. I think the idea of filtering it to basically look more brown is stupid. The game looks more than fine as is. Just cause it looks different doesn't mean it's an improvement. I'd trust a team of Blizzard's artists on their visual direction any day over some random shithead on the internet.
I've asked this many times, and I will try again. There are 11 different filters you say? Could someone please direct me to somewhere, or post screenshots or a video of their own showing a detailed look of each of the different filter options pretty please!!!?? =)
I think I can achieve the same result wearing sunglasses while playing tbh
The problem with this method and the sharp filter if its still meh in the end since its just a ghetto way of having better graphics but if you really like it go ahead. I liked the sharp filter but like said it makes texts ugly and lights shitty so its a pro for a con.
tried the sharpen one only, the text and menu and the glitter when u have a shrine buff makes things a little too speckled >_< Other than that not much difference from playing modless with AA off. That effect blurs things out.
and tried darken one... this doesn't make it look more like diablo, makes it feel like playing with photoshop, it effects everything in bad ways especially the UI.
While I don't love the filter 100%, I do enjoy the sharper look and the extra bit of contrast it provides. It makes me realize that the classic Guild Wars look would be poisonous to a game like Diablo . Any sort of glowing effects, bloom effects or any lighting effect that emits radiance just makes the game look worse. It all about the sharp dark contrast of the Diablo series, not having your character glowing for some weird reason.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
I'm just gonna skip the useless debating about graphics part and move right along to the part where I say it looks like shit, and wonder why you guys care...
I could achieve this same effect by messing with the color and contrast settings on my monitor, and it would look just as bad. Hell, a pair of dark sunglasses and some whiskey would work too.

Yar, because light radius didn't exist in D1 or D2.

Very true =) In fact I plan on testing that in beta later
I can achieve all those "special" effects just by setting sharpness or custom color tint on my TV. Even better than those. I think blizzard didn't do anything about it as everybody can just set those things one their TVs. (Monitors should have some of these features too. If not then those filter programs may be quite useful)
[Edit] Also darkd3 sharpness is to strong. It should not be as sharp. It shows too much of artificially created white edges.
medium effect, sharpness on, i like it. i love color but the game always seemed a bit over saturated. i also didnt like the "blur" effect. id rather it be a bit sharper.
What it does is it changes the tone in D3 between Lesser, Medium, Normal, Stronger and Hardcore. At the same time you can toggle on or off the Sharpness option.
In my opinion it looks fantastic set to Hardcore with the Sharpness turned on. The difference is night and day and it's comparable to wearing glasses. With the Sharpness turned off it seems a little blurry but with it turned on, the clarity becomes amazing. The detail is just superb. You can check it out for yourself at darkd3.com
I myself would like to use this but I'm a little concerned about what Blizzard might think of its users using something like this. Even the guy who made it isn't 100% sure if Blizzard will consider this moding and ban those that use this thing. Keep in mind it's not a Mod, "It does not modify any game file or process memory" according to the guy who made it.
What do you guys think? I hate to be banned for using this but you can't deny that this makes D3 look a little nicer.

The thread about this has been alive on the battle.net forums since January and it still hasn't been locked.
This is just a direct3d filter, this doesn't mess/change any of the game files.
Its sad that people spread misleading and false information with such certainty.
This is the same exact thing.

Link me 500 threads about the 11 color palettes that are linked on the first page.

I'll bet Christan Lichtner would beg to differ.
Edit; AFAIK it won't be illegal, as it's just changing your monitors settings.
