These contests are all pure fail, sorry diablofans.
Facebook contest: forces people to mindlessly refresh facebook and spreads hate between people. I have missed the first question by 5 minutes, and the second question by 10 minutes becouse i was posting here. Terrible idea.
Random post contest: forced thousands of people to spam mindlessly and reposting stuff only becouse they want the game like everyone else. Spreads hate between new and old members. Terrible idea.
Random build contest: ppl will mindlessly generate random, often useless, builds in order to have chance to win beta again. Will spread confusion between threads and hate from users who have actualy spended a lot of time and effort in making their good builds with plans behind it.
If you would give 100 keys to the best class builds (20 each class) with fully described reasons why this skills/runes, tactics, thought behind build, theory effectivnes idea, it would be MUCH better.
Next 100 keys to randomly picked old members (at least several years)
Next 100 keys to randomly picked "D3 only" members (registered around 3-6months ago)
and last 150 keys to new members everyone would be happy.
No stress, no rush, no spam, no hate.
Sorry, but your contest are the worst of all the sites in this mass give-away wave

Rencol - Diablo fan since 1996 and walking encyclopedia of Diablo lore.
To be fair, D3DB has the worst contest, it's so bad their site is down most of the time because people are constantly refreshing the page. The best contest was Blizzplanet for sure, all you had to do was make a post in a dedicated thread and that's it, everyone has the same chance of winning and you have a week to post which means no spamming, no constantly hitting F5 and no jumping through hoops.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
I will agree to the fact that a lot of their give aways are spawning nothing but spam about useless topics or even starting up threads that have already been started and are just rephrasing whats already been said. I will even give you that the Facebook one sucks cause even I have posted something within the first 20 seconds of the question going up and still managed to be like 50th post down. Its annoying, truely it is, but its what they wanted to do. In the long run those who did get the facebook keys will be happy. They have a big chance of getting some new regulars on their forums, while those who just came ONLY for keys will disappear after its done. Small price to pay when chances are you will get a lot of new faces that will stick around and make your site more popular/active.
I see your point, but you don't look at the other side of it too. There are pluses and minuses to many things. Most of your minuses will be gone in a week or two. The pluses will be around much, much longer.
Hey at least all these "useless contest" that only cause "spam" allow people a chance to play diablo 3. I mean we are all here for one reason and that is our passion for all things diablo. Honestly if they wanna give out random keys to people who contribute and are willing to add to a topic I have no issues. Yes we will have a lot of spam and useless topics but hey as long as the word of diablo 3 spreads I will be happy.

I fear its too late for this, but I actually really like your ideas. I'm just posting like normal, but people are thinking I'm doing it just because I want a beta...which is not the case, like you I've been here since 2006, and would love a key for being loyal but would never ask for it like that. it kind of sucks that I have to have at least one 3 sentence post in each thread.
If you would give 100 keys to the best class builds (20 each class) with fully described reasons why this skills/runes, tactics, thought behind build, theory effectivnes idea, it would be MUCH better.
That is extremely subjective. We'd get all sorts of complaints about that. The last contest we had a lot over subjective matter, so this time we went pretty random.
No matter what we do not everyone is going to agree on it.
Facebook contest: forces people to mindlessly refresh facebook and spreads hate between people. I have missed the first question by 5 minutes, and the second question by 10 minutes becouse i was posting here. Terrible idea.
Facebook auto refreshes. Announcing the times of the contest beforehand wouldn't make it easier since you would just have 50x more people answering the question.
Random post contest: forced thousands of people to spam mindlessly and reposting stuff only becouse they want the game like everyone else. Spreads hate between new and old members. Terrible idea.
It's a good way to promote the forums and bring new people who wouldn't have built up the courage to post in other conditions. The "spam" will die down quite fast and I'm pretty sure we will end up with a decent amount of good posters in the future just because they joined the community for this contest in the first place.
Random build contest: ppl will mindlessly generate random, often useless, builds in order to have chance to win beta again. Will spread confusion between threads and hate from users who have actualy spended a lot of time and effort in making their good builds with plans behind it.
That's the "random" contest, and it's also the one with the less keys. I went for rewarding knowledge and dedication instead of pure luck. On a sidenote it's also pretty nice to know that people who get keys are people who are actually fun of diablo and didn't just register and post in a random thread because it's easy and they want to try it for 10 minutes.
If you would give 100 keys to the best class builds (20 each class) with fully described reasons why this skills/runes, tactics, thought behind build, theory effectivnes idea, it would be MUCH better.
This is extremely subjective and absolutely impossible anyway. It's like asking what's the best build for the Amazon in Diablo 2, there isn't just one build, and there is no "best build" especially with as many combinations as we have in D3.
Most importantly, you're literally asking us to decide what the best build is on a game that isn't even released yet, making any testing impossible.
Next 100 keys to randomly picked old members (at least several years)
Can't do that for legal reasons, and rewarding the beta based on pure luck is silly. If hardcore fans who really want the beta are willing to go the extra mile to have a chance to get a key, it's fine by me. They deserve it.
Next 100 keys to randomly picked "D3 only" members (registered around 3-6months ago)
See above.
and last 150 keys to new members everyone would be happy.
See above.
In the end, I'd rather reward someone who was dedicated and knows a lot about the game than someone who just happened to be lucky or someone who is good with proxies.
While I don't understand the Facebook contest, really, it's a bad way to pick a winner of a Beta Key (first to respond!) and it's not really a random draw, your post isn't going to "change" their plans. It's just advertisement, a basic marketing scheme to force people to register to the forums, subscribe/like Diablofans on Facebook and Twitter, and spread the word to other people.
Ultimately, it's contrived, but it's February 17th. It's time for the real fucking game to launch, not more of these contests.

"When men are most sure and arrogant, they are commonly the most mistaken, and have then given views to passion, without that proper deliberation and suspense which can alone secure them from the grossest absurdities"
Man you are great.
I agree with you about the first and second point because that's just confusing..
The third point though isn't flawless, cause it's hard to decide wether or not you made the best build there should be some attributes that give some kind of score to the build..

You still apparently didn't think about this before you told Blizzard what you planned to do. This is by far your worst contest this site has EVER done.
I think the contests are good ideas. To reply to everything you said.
1. The facebook/Twitter contest most likely is a contract made between Blizz/Diablo Fans and the website for advertizement. This helps all companies. That is what I believe and if a person wants to spam their FB and twitter then so be it. I think its a good idea it give ever person a chance in many different ways to recieve the game they love and want to play. I dont see how that would cause hate between players.
2. The posts contest I believe yes people want to get the game so they spam the forums but Blizz/DiabloFans have set guidlines so obviously they are looking for posts in particular that is logical and structured and makes sense. Like me, I want the game but it's not the end of the world if I dont recieve it at least on the BETA. I'll post my opinions and whatever happens, happens. I dont see how that will cause hate between new and old players. Everyone gets a fair chance. It also seems to introduce the new players into the forum world and get them used to all the aspects the company offers if they have no already done so.
3. As for the build contest... I believe Blizz is smart enough to choose which build seems useless or not. Therefore why should there be any hate between members if Blizz has decided whos build seems to have the more time put into it. If someone gets lucky over a random build that doesnt make sense then thats everyone one elses reactions seem to only respond in a hateful way. Instead, you should ask that person to explain why they chose that build. If anything maybe that's what Blizz would do to...Explain why they decided to pick this persons build. I believe blizz/DiabloFans will see these posts and make the effort to avoid the conflict.
As for your ideas...It doesnt seem half bad. However, if I was to state my opinion by questioning how many old members there are? 100 keys only to those people? I think that would cause more conflict than anything. The rest of the members wouldnt have a chance anymore. And It doesnt seem to be fun anymore. The "spam" thing is like a race and we are lucky I believe to have the chance for so many keys and so many choices how to and chances to winning the keys. Making an effort to recieve the game is so much worthwhile and satisfying in my opinion than a random draw from only a select group or specific groups of people.
I guess the real purpose was Blizz to give fansites some free traffic as a thank you. Not so much anything related to the keys themselves or the fairness of anything.
The whole thing is just odd to me to begin with following a wave of 100k invites. That's so many! How could people who want to be in the beta so badly still not be in via countless contests or access through friends?
In the end, I'd rather reward someone who was dedicated and knows a lot about the game than someone who just happened to be lucky or someone who is good with proxies.
Boub, This brings up a question for me. Is this your contest or Blizzards? I understand all the legal issues, but that aside should you and the mods pick a thread, read through it, and from there chose which post YOU think is the best one rather then a random 3 sentenced post?
Sometimes its really hard to describe things like "Magic Find and Gold Find are not a nescessity and are completely optional" while trying to stretch that into at least three sentences without repeating yourself and or making it look like you are just running on and on just for the contest.
I don't know why people feel so entitled. Like they deserve something more than other people for just existing. I haven't been posting here for years, but I have been following the site for several months. I have posted numerous builds months ago when the calculators came out and my thought process behind them, and more recently made my sig build several weeks back (though things have been changed since I'll have to take another look at them). I have posted here over 500 times. I don't post here expecting to win, though it would be a nice little bonus- I'm here because I like discussing all things Diablo. It's called "random" for a reason. They were given keys and they saw an opportunity to grow the poster base. You came in here complaining about being forced to make posts, nobody's forcing anyone to post, that's their choice, and they're being brought here to grow/traffic the community for a reason.
You need to rethink your positions. They have the keys and they decide who gets them. This isn't some union protest demanding things be given to them.
