The most memorable would be my encounter with the guardians at mount Arreat. Battling 3 bosses on my martial type assassin was a pain in the ass, I've used more than half of my gold in buying potions before deciding to farm more rejuvs and fight again. Whenever I play with a different character, I always remember to stack up rejuvs before going to the summit.
I still remember the very first time I played D2 multiplayer. I hadn't played a lot yet and I was still a kid so I didn't know much. Some dude came up to me and showed me a (white) horned helm and I was all like omg that's awesome! (so far I had only seen caps and stuff)
I also remember the first time playing LoD. I got it on release but didn't know any spoilers or new features. Nothing beats the feeling of finding your first charms and class specifics.
After watching that video, I really wish I got to play Diablo when it first came out. Back then I was too young though. Now I know what they based Pudge off of.
In diablo 1 running into a mob of skeltons thinking i was invicible notes i died and died and died until i learnt the skill draw them away in smaller packs to kill. hahaha are the memories of D1
For D1, I think my favorite memory is when I found arkanes armor (spelling?). I just thought to my (young) self; Wow, that's so cool i found some sort of special armor by accident =D
For D2, it was when I saw my buddy play it for the first time (having never seen anything about D2 until then, and having only played D1) and I saw him in act 2 running around, lol my first reaction was 'holy shit how much light radius do you have?!' He had never played D1 so he's all like 'well I've got these gloves with +2, is that it?' I was in awe with a whole outside world for diablo =P
As far as D3 goes, I will forever remember the moment I was watching my first youtube video of someone playing the beta. And as I watched them go into that first building the slaughtered calf inn, and I saw all the detail and extra little things in the environment, I was blown away. I mean that first walk down the starting road was very cool, but seeing the inside of that building and getting a hint at how the rest of D3 would look is my #1
I think it's still is the "oh shit!" moment when I entered the Butcher's room and realized I wasn't ready for him at all!
^^ THIS!
My fondest memory however is of my friend and I, 10 years old, sitting at his parent's house at night, pitch dark outside, taking turns playing single player Diablo I... We get to The Catacombs (and you all know the eerie atmosphere this dungeon in particular had) and open these two doors right next to each other into a long narrow room... We hear a massive roar, but nothing happens... Cautiously we enter the room, and BAM! are headbutted and knocked back by this massive Horned Demon!!!
I swear we both jumped back in our seats and were scared shitless!
But with Arkaine's Valor, the most epic armor of all time, the reward was well worth it! (Even beating the fact that I had to ride my bike through a dark forest on my way home that night...)
- The butcher saying "Ahh fresh meat"
- The skeleton king saying "The warth of light has entered this tomb"
- The revelation of Marrius' visitor in the psych ward
The butcher, first boss, soo hard for a little noob like I was back then.
And the atmosphere was incredible. I'd heard from my friends that this guy was scary as hell and so I had all that with me when I first met him.
My strongest memory would probably be my first playthrough of Diablo II altogether. I still remember to this day, my epic Necromancer with 1-2 points in pretty much all the skills, trying to kill Andariel with a two handed sword. Then there was Duriel that took me ~20 tries to kill with my epic army of 3 skeletons and a blood golem. Diablo was an even bigger joke. After about an hour to an hour an a half of deaths, breaking seals, pain, and tears, I had the honor of meeting Diablo himself for the first time since the first game - an encounter that lasted maybe 15-20 seconds max before he killed me. After a few deaths I came out with a brilliant strategy which involved me killing the Lord of Terror with a sapphire-gemmed crossbow. Ahhhh good times goooooood times.
D1 as a whole... so many times you'd walk around a corner and death becomes you (stupid acid beast bosses). Farnham's drunken rants were pretty awesome too, and the music in Tristram was epic. I started D1 in early teenage days, so many good times; I still play it every for an hour or two once a month.
D2... hmm so many years all a blur. Rescuing Cain for the first time was just WOW, amazing. The frustration known as Duriel. The happiness of finally get the Durance of Hate WP to bypass Act 3. Finding Izual for those two free skill points. "Not even Death Can Save You From Me" .... and being a melee char with no fire or lightning resistances! The other most memorable was probably finding my first vamp gaze for my assassin.
D3 memories yet to come.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
The most memorable thing about Diablo (2) for me was the music I listened to for hours upon hours in act 1 while/during pvp. The game came to a point where it was fun to slaughter cows and it felt fairly annoying to play through the acts, so I would powerlevel my friends and they would powerlevel me to try out new character builds etc, and then fool around with them outside of town when we weren't pvping with other people in the moors.
Even listening to it today calls back vivid pictures of memories I had at the time as well as the obvious, my exeprience and love for the game itself.
My first real memory is when I beat blood raven. I thought she was really hard the first time I faced her. And afterwards, I was so excited when I found the gold chest in the crypt. Probably cleared the crypt and mausoleum a hundred times before I moved on.
This might sound pretty terrible as it involves cheating in Diablo 1:
Back in 1999 I got my first computer and with it came Diablo 1. I had never heard anything about it and the only PC game I had played prior was Warcraft 2. The relative who got me the game told me that I would have a lot of fun but I should beware of "Hackers and PKer's." I had no idea what he was talking about but I was so engrossed in the gameplay, I did not care. It did not take long though before I realized what he was talking about. Almost every game I was in, someone was following me around and stealing my ear. So I decided to fight back. I went to yahoo and searched for cheats and came across the brilliant "Boba Fett's Trainer" and began demolishing players. What started as self defense soon began mass murder. I will never forget how badass that program was and the amount of tears that were likely shed as I went on my rampage.
tl;dr: Played Diablo for the first time, got owned by PK'ers and then went on a rampage using Boba Fett's Trainer.
I think my best memory is the overall feeling of D1. The music, sounds, and atmosphere have not been matched. D2 was a great game, but it just didnt feel as good as D1. Also, the music for Tristam was like the all time best game music ever. I have it set as my ringer for my phone, which I Diablo themed like crazy (I love you android.)
This is a great post topic!!! My favorite Diablo franchise memory is the "Easter Egg" Cow level. Hilarious!!!
I sure hope that Blizzard and Diablo III have some hidden Easter eggs in store for us to find and explore in Diablo III.
Another cow level would be cool but perhaps something new (that we've never seen before) would be a bonus too!
Mines probably while playing a necro with a barbarian friend, we were right before Diablo and there were MASSES of mobs he kiiled 1-2 yellow named mob and i cast my uber corpse explosion x100 =)
My first memory from Diablo is the one that sticks with me whenever i think of Diablo, it was during the butcher encounter in Diablo 1. I almost shat myself when i saw him... I really miss those unexpected encounters that freak you out and make you wonder if you should continue or just mow through.
My favorite memories are still attached to the original Diablo.
I remember having a demo for Diablo 1 way back around the time I was playing command and conquer and Warcraft 2. The demo only let you play up until the butcher (do you remember the butcher?) but I enjoyed the game so much I spent hours re-playing the demo as the dynamic dungeon generation kept making my replays fresh. (It was, afterall, a new concept then).
Expanding on the story above, the D1 demo I had required some arcaeic version of Direct X and back then Win 95 was the common OS. I'll never forget staying over at friends house and (after some convicing) got him to let me install the game on his parents brand new computer. Well, the direct X installation somehow managed to crash and corrupt his parents fancy new computer and I spent all night fixing it.
I was 12 or 13 back then and now I'm almost 30. That was my first experience causing a major computer issue and being able to fix it on my own without help. 17 - 18 years later I'm a computer programmer and I consider Diablo 1 as having played a roll in fostering that interest.
I know a lot of that trailed away from game content, but when I think about Diablo nostalgia that is a prime meory for sure.

Forever lodged in my brain <3

Other than that, the Arcane Sanctuary/tal rasha's tomb relationship and the stained glass/feel in act 4 particularly stood out to me.
